(At least Ubisoft gave us two non-Cyan Myst games through their publishing)

I don't see how it was as bad as Ubisoft. Ubisoft screwed Cyan big time, while CK gave Cyan a bit of money and a new project to keep them afloat back when they really had no other non-Myst projects. And if I'm not mistaken, Cyan still gets some money from CK since they maintain the servers.
I think these two would be worst case scenarios. Valve would mean Steam and I know many who object against that.

Actually the demand for Cyan games on Steam has been high, and since then they've put up most of their games there. Valve is one of the best companies you could team up with (see the Portal 2 ARG for example).
Not really. They are just a developer paying $99/yr to publish stuff on the App Store. And since Myst and Riven are big names, they were featured in the App Store a few times.

This is indeed a serious issue, certainly for the long-term health of any projects to come out of this code. I don't think I can really add anything more that isn't in Paradox's rather complete post.
Actually, I think that being able to distribute binaries now of the changes that have been made so far would be an excellent way to attract more attention to the project, and with it (hopefully) more contributors as well.

For those to which this might be news, Christian Walther has resolved a GoW fork incompatibility with CWE, and OpenUru.org is reorganizing its repository structure to provide better and easier access and visibility according to recommendations from the GoW and others. I happen to like this better too.

The thread announcing our efforts is here:
http://forums.openuru.org/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=599 (Onward: OpenUru Repository Reorganization)

Some of these changes were facilitated through positive community work like that in this thread:
http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24847 (Marten's "Bridging the gap between OU and GoW")

Hats off to everyone involved.

Cyan hasn't integrated much on that front yet. I believe the only change so far has been that new hoods are named "Hood" instead of "Bevin".

Chogon is working on getting a system in place so that people can submit patches, and once that's ready we've got a lot to start sending him. Hopefully it will be a quick turnaround between sending them in and getting them merged. Some of the things we've got are simple (Including a fix for jpegs that are written to the disk so that they aren't broken anymore). Some of them are also really big, and I expect we'll have to have some back-and-forth with Chogon to get them integrated.

We'll of course keep people posted once there's news. There just hasn't been much news so far.

That's right, we haven't pushed this code to Cyan yet. It actually depends on several patches, and some of those might be hard for Cyan to integrate. We will have to see how things go.

Rarified knows its an issue, and it's something to do with the integration between the repository and the Atlassian tools. I'm not sure of the exact details, since I'm not privy to the guts of the OU system.

Ah, thanks for that! I hadn't seen the shard list. Even though there's really not a whole lot there yet, at least now I know where it go to look for info in the future.

I probably won't be very heavily involved in this development phase. Even if I had the skillset to be able to contribute anything beyond testing, I don't have nearly as much time on my hands as I used to. In a few months that may change, though--hopefully by then we'll have at least one relatively stable shard with a decent population of players and some fan content.

Just to make sure we're all absolutely clear: The engine code might or might not work - I don't know if anyone's tested. Anything you build with newer PhysX won't be able to read current PRPs or write compatible PRPs, though.
