I used to know someone who lived outside Wellington, near the top of a mountain, apparently. She used to say it was fun to look down during a quake and watch the ground ripple.

The bear population up in the mountains is getting too dense, so they're coming into the cities where I live. Which is cool, because bears are cool, but it's also like an infestation of 500-pound toddlers: they're not too bright, don't know their own strength, and occasionally get cranky if you get too close.

K, thanks. So, the bahro avie is an avie with special properties. But, what I want to know, is how do cyan make them? Do they press some button on their computers for a bahro avatar, or do they do something elese?
Quote:

YOU have an animation when YOU link out. Shouldn't a Bahro have a similar one?

Not what i meant. If you watch those youtube videos, youll notice that sometimes the bahro shrink to a point and reapear a few feat away. How do they do that?

For some time I’ve been posting notes about the web moving to 3D. WebGL is still a long way from providing the immersive video quality of Uru. But it is getting closer.

Quake II GWT Port is a port of Quake II that brings it to web browsers. The state of the project is still pretty much raw code and requires one compile a copy. No end-user-non-techie binaries yet.

One can see it running in Safari in a video. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Jonathon Blow (Braid) is working on a new downloadable game for mutiple platforms, scheduled for a 2011 release.

It is officially described as an "exploration-puzzle game on an uninhabited island", which uses a first person perspective in a 3d world. Kotaku has a good preview available here:

http://tinyurl.com/kotaku32

A selected quote from the article, "Blow didn't bristle when I told him that the game made me think of Myst."

For fans of the genre, I believe it's worth keeping an eye on.

i'm staying at a Motel 6 in Hannibal, Missouri right now... if any creepy stalkers wanna stop by and steal my money.

Mystifies wrote:

I would take a Llinking book back to the surface and sell it for 6 billion dollars then give half to the DRC

Anyway if D'ni was real it would start world war 3 because every country on the planet would want BOOKS THAT TELEPORTES THE USER TO OTHER PLANETS IN OTHER DEMENSIONS

If not already sold off to companies. I personally believe that what keeps the caverns 'the caverns' is the fact that people with genuine interest in Ae'gura, the D'ni and the caverns keep the knowledge of it all within itself. Perish the thought of D'ni exposed to the public, because that invites people to corrupt it. Not to mention, that point you raise about a war based on linking books would not nessarcarally (sp) eventuate, since the componts in creating linking books are manufacturable. It would however open a whole new pardora's box of espionage; an uncovered technology that completely renders the entire research of interstellar travel and interplanetary environmental capability obselite. That's worth killing for. No, the public may very well taint the D'ni world almost entirely negatively due to all the implications of the technologies so far unknown.

A little aside to my argument; if good does come from publisizing linking books into the public, it's most likely that would stem from surface writers. As far back as Homer, I liken the best surface writers as writers in this context, the storytelling in the books and novels are vivid and very detailed, similar to imagining ages to create a link. I always say that the only difference between famous novels and descriptive books are that novels don't connect to a linking book.
