/doh ... haha ... didn't see this one yesterday as when you're not used to this you don't expect/suspect to have sth different and just look for and see the Launcher.exe ... So, I'm glad that I've mentioned it, also for others who might encounter the same 'non-issue' lol ... Thanks, MercAngel, works like a charm ...

Just for the fun of it I've added the Gehn Shard and its server.ini and then an update was being downloaded ... as I felt a bit uncertain where those files are being saved, maybe they just overwrite the Atlantis Shard files, I stopped the download process, deleted the Gehn Shard from the shard selection and chose the Atlantis Shard, and then another update was being downloaded, the Atlantis Shard files, I suppose ... so, I'm glad I've stopped it before ... I was hoping that the UruShardSelect would just grab the files from whichever other shard it is getting the server.ini from as it perfectly correct created a Gehn Shard folder additionally to the already existing Atlantis Shard folder with the resp. server.ini ... Yeah, just had to try this out ...

I have the DVD version, the one in a package that looks like a book, running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I used a patch calling itself MystV-VistaSP1-Win7 patch, but I can't remember where I got it from. Google tells me it is available from Gamefront. Also set compatibility for MystV.exe to XP (SP2) and run as admin.

In fact I have all six Myst games and several Uru variants installed and running on the one machine Riven was the worst. The installer is 16-bit and simply won't run at all. Solution is either use a VM or install on another machine that is running XP then move the whole installation folder across. Riven makes no modifications to the registry, it seems, or doesn't need them if it does

Content that has to be examined before being added is a standard part of the addition process. So, I don't see that as an issue. The community will have tested and debugged content/ages long before it gets to Cyan's attention and possible addition to their shard.

On private shards, those operators are going to have near total control. They will pick and choose what appears on their shards. I suspect Cyan will only ever look at the things shard operators find popular. So, the examination work load is going to be distributed across the community. It won't fall solely on Cyan. They will more or less be picking from a small set of what the community has seen as the best content.

For improving player retention the changes are more conceptual than content oriented. Will chat be changed? Will the entrance point to game change? Will the possibility of more character editing be allowed? Will graphics be updated? Will there be better ways to find friends? Will a means be created to allow the game to generate revenue for Cyan or other shard operators to pay for servers?

Where you aware that the fans of the old adventure games Broken Sword did create an "expasion" pack of the serie ?

It is called Broken Sword 2.5 and I beleive it is still available for free at the next link...
Make certain to read all tabs first.

I cannot swear it but I had the impression that their german fans were the instigators of that project.
I know this post didn't get a lot of interest, but I am working on the project anyhow.

http://seltani.net/ (only a teaser right now!)

I have posted some more details on the GoW forum. The software is progressing nicely. As the teaser implies, I have a Cavern area and a Surface area. I can link back and forth, walk around each, look at the scenery, and (if I log in with two web browsers) chat between characters.

Still a long way to go before I can open it up to testing, but this is a possible project.

I do believe that RAWA has stated that the D'ni used beasts of burden to transport large amounts of produce at once. I do believe this is literal in the sense of large animals carrying large loads on their backs. More organised people then me may be able to find his exact post where he said this.

Agustin Cordes, an adventure game developer responsible for 'Scratches', and currently developing 'Asylum', has recently released a game engine called DAGON, as freeware that can be used for creating adventure games.

It's based on Lua and it is a panoramic engine (like Myst III or IV)... it can output to PC, Mac, Linux, and (soon) iOS.

I thought I'd mention it in case anybody here is interested.
