I fully agree with that.
Cavern Communications Network (CCN) is looking forward to start their productions again and offer ppl a place to present their creative skills.
I am sure we will get our fanmade studio somewhere in the Cavern.

As soon as I read this thread I thought immediately of Hitana's fabulous fan fiction (try to say that in a hurry! ). It would be great if a home could be found for this type of fan created input in the new open source URU. This would be a great way for more traditional writers (as opposed to Writers of Ages) to contribute to the community in Cavern. No techno skills required - just a great imagination.
I would love to see that, not only to get a proper base for my stories but also to see other stories.

If OSMOUL really is, what it sounds like, FCA issues might not be much of a problem anymore. But I would prefer to be sure about that before I re-release anything (and then I need to know how to do that).

The Lara Documents are an IC device to allow for fan-created stories, histories, descriptions, art, etc. Pretty much anything you want to make. While the IC character J.D.Barnes is semi-awol, I'm still making documents under the Lara Document umbrella.

Please pardon my ignorance - I've heard the Lara documents mentioned but don't know anything about them. I'm always eager to learn more about the D'niverse, especially from the point of view of someone who loves it and plays in it.

This might be a good idea for the Lara Documents and other histories. I'd love to have my stories/histories in something like this.

Say... is there any reason we couldn't include fan-fic, or player created summaries and/or histories that recount the tales instead? A set of synopsis to help new fans discover the game and book histories with occasional brief quotes where needed would be within the copyright fair use rules. And no one says they have to be dry - we have plenty of writing and illustration talent in the community already.

(It would also be a way to get people asking for older titles and books. Demand drives supply.)

Also, I really think an area to celebrate and commemorate the creativity of the community in-game would certainly be appropriate. Half of the fun of any Myst game has always been reading the books, aside from linking through them.

As a side point by way of example: in Oblivion, there are tons of fan-made works that recount history, game canon and added detail for the world. I've edited several for that game and the work of a talented fan is a pleasure to read.

Just a thought...

Perhaps one of the building in Uru (the one behind the tent comes to mind) Can be converted into a reading room with shelves that can hold all the Journals, novels and other notes from the Myst Series. One Shelf could hold one Myst novel each chapter could be one book and each shelf or shelf unit could be one of the novels. Another shelf unit can have all of the Journals. and perhaps one or two linking books, where the linking panel still has a fly over seen but does not work as a linking book, (perhaps the DRC broke it in the proses of trying to learn how they work) as you turn the page past the linking panel you see all the D'ni writing and if you where to try and translate it you will notice its similar to the programing language that is used to create ages with all the Python and Blender stuff.

Plausible
crazy
what do ya think
