Thanks to your advice I just bashed away at it till it gave in.

I think I did eventually drill down in a Finder window, and that let me drag the old file to the trash, after which it was a simple matter to drag the replacement file in, update, and go.

All now duly sorted - thank you

OK, then you can right-click by using two fingers on the trackpad, if you enable that in System Preferences > Trackpad.

Alright, guessing further… Could it be that the the icon you’re unsuccessfully trying to control-click on is not in a Finder window, but in the menu or stack or grid that you can open by clicking the Applications icon in the dock? You need to do it in a Finder window, which you can open e.g. by choosing Go To > Applications from the Finder menu bar.

(Bear with me… I’m sure there is something ridiculously trivial that you’re doing differently than I expect, but to figure out what it is, I just need to ask a lot of dumb questions. )

I'm using a MacBook Air, so it only has the one button

When I control-click on the book icon in the installation window it opens the context menu and I can drill down, but by the time I get the book icon in the Application folder itself a control-click just runs the programme ...

Yes, that’s all correct (except it’s a double-click, not a click on the .dmg file, but you’re well past that). However, control-clicking the book icon should open the context menu, it shouldn’t run the application. Double-click is for running. I’m not sure what’s happening here. Do you have a mouse or trackpad with a right button so you could try right-clicking instead of control-clicking? Edit: Or are you confused about what control-click means? It means hold down the ctrl key on the keyboard while clicking with the (left) mouse button.

OK, I have the .dmg and .exe files downloaded to my desktop.

I need to;

click on the .dmg file,
generate the installation window,
and drag the book icon to my Applications folder.

Then I should be able to control-click the book image in the Applications window and so on?

I'll wait for confirmation before I try that, as I'm sure that's what I've already done, and deleted, because when I control-click on the book icon in the Applications folder it just runs the programme to the 'looking for patcher' window and I have to use the Activity Monitor to find it and stop it.

Hints?

That's some progress.

When I control-click on the Myst Online book icon in the Applications folder it tries to run the programme.

So, download it, and drag the whole thing into the Applications folder ?

No, you need to do this on the copy you put somewhere on your hard drive (the Applications folder, apparently), not on the one on the disk image (“installation window”), as the disk image is not writable. That’s weird – any Finder icon should give you a context menu when you ctrl-click or right-click on it.

I take it this is when you try to work on the mounted disk image? That’s the expected behavior then, the disk image is read-only, so you can’t modify anything.

I can't get this to work at all.

I can download the package and mount it, and I can download and unzip the 'new' EXE file, but nothing I can do will allow me to replace the file.

I checked there is nothing showing in activity monitor, navigate to the old EXE ( 2007 ) file location, but cant drag it out of the folder into the trash I get the 'cannot be deleted' error message despite nothing showing in activity monitor. I can drag as many copies as I want onto the desktop, but the original stays in place.

If I have the new EXE ( 2010 ) file on the desktop and try to drag it into the destination folder it just gives me a 'barred' sign on the file as soon as it crosses the boundary into the folder, then bounces it out again.

The only other thing I can suggest is that I have to control click on the image of the book in the installation window, as the book image in the Applications folder doesn't do anything when I control click on it ?

Hi

I have a new mac, and I installed the old Gametap app on it.
This is my experience:
First I located myst online folder, opened it and found the URULauncher file in it, trashed it and dropped the new downloaded URULauncher file on the open myst online folder. It didn't work, the file ended up in the wrong place in the folder.
Then I reinstalled Myst online app, got to the mystonline folder, but didn't open it. I just dropped the new file on the closed folder and replaced the old one, then it worked

You don't need a new account when installing MOULa on another machine, even one with a different operating system. However, you will only be able to use one machine at a time - if you try to login on both machines at the same time using the same login then you'll get a "Logged in elsewhere" error on one of the machines.

Your email address is your username, so you can't create a second account with the same email address.

You only need the one. Double-click it to unzip it, and a new file called UruLauncher.exe will appear. Put that in the folder as described.

If you did it in this order, then you must have done something wrong. There is already an UruLauncher.exe in the location in question, so if you drag the new one in before removing the old one, you would be asked whether you want to replace it, and if you do, the old one is no longer there to drag to the trash. Did you perchance move UruLauncher.exe-1.893.zip instead of UruLauncher.exe, trash the new one you just added, or choose the wrong folder?

That is the correct way of launching it. The symptom you describe is consistent with what happens when there is no UruLauncher.exe in the required location.

Try with Activity Monitor to see if there are any Uru Live processes active (they have the same icon) and close them.

I can't get the cider wrapper to work. I have OSX 10.6.8 2.4GHz intel core 2 duo

However, if you are looking for the easiest solution (in my opinion) to getting MOUL up and running on your Intel Mac, doing it yourself by hand using the following instructions paraphrased from Rainbow should get you up and running MOUL on the Mac without loading additional software and without too much fuss.

1. Download the old Mac client from Gametap, mount the disk image, and copy Myst Online.app to your Applications folder

This seems to work as the computer said "disk image mounted" and I can move the icon of the book into my applications file

2. Download the UruLauncher.exe file here.

In the resulting window, go into Contents, then Resources, then Control-click again on this Myst Online.app. Again navigate into Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive > Program Files > Uru Live. Drag the new UruLauncher.exe from wherever you put it on your hard drive into this folder and replace the old one.[/quote]

I started over by dragging the book icon to the trash and emptying the trash. Did that uninstall it adequately? If any stray exe files I unzipped are somewhere on my desktop or downloads file would they interfere?

Then I downloaded the cider wrapper again and tried the exe files again.

I went to the Cyan site to see if I had to download from there but they want to open a new account and I used my only email to download on our windows machine.

My son and I want to explore together, can anything be done?
