gesh!

All these posts just for like 1 little Bahro trick I mean its amazing
at how things can really escalate so far as almost light a match under all that fuel
build up from previous posts! Nutz.

IMO; Think there might be another group of (hope Grayhats) in the myst!

As someone said alot of the old h4xorz are comming back sence the FH and GOI
where givin the thumbs up signal.

I know for almost fact that if Cyan finally released the binaries etc. for OS the shard network would
be up almost instantly just like it used to be with UU. Then we will need to reasest things from
the Guild point of view because as the game is set up now with the hoods they each have their own
instance of the city, ( to restore etc. ) So what would
each hood member would be?, a member of a lesser Guild then?
Then we got the unfinished Guildhall for all the main Guilds, But they all got Watcher Pubs with
changed gfx. Now (after OS is released of coarse) We have the Shard network back in
UU days each server/shard was like its own Guild, each shard had something differant to offer
wether it be MODed game ages or game TimeLine like one shard I visited had their URU set up like
ABM with cones everywhere and blockade in the city etc. This is going to be one big mess!!!
Of just how are we going to structure all this in a workable MMO way? not to mention all the
user made ages and the intragration of M5 into MOULA! (shhh it has been done.)

I see this big kettle of boiling explorer soup with the lid on if Cyan don't lift the lid off the kettle
Naturaly its going to blow its top sooner or later. One can only wait so long and life is so short.

I'm not a coder although I would love to be able to wow explorers with smoke and mirrors
I just would not have the pacience to do all that reading and math. Thats also why Im a maintainer
Its change, Its something different, It surprises, It makes you wonder, It makes you cerious,
The Good Bahro are still here and have been offering, Its URU!!! where one never knows
if or when something was going to happen. I welcome it, I really can not see anyone wanting to
malishisly(spelling) harm MOUL ( IMO what would there be to gain from doing it? Gain a 1000+ Enemies
from every user in this community? )

I've said my fill. *Whistles and Bahro appears behind him, it unraps its wings and puts its hands
on Voi's shoulders and Both Disappear!*

Very glad to see Cyan was not canceling the grey hats because of the black hats. Nalates: restricting the black hats has no effect on the grey hats. I hope the grey hats keep finding new ways to entertain us.

Chogon posted. We're sorta mixed. I was right it was related to the bad names. Thankfully I was wrong it involved hacking.

Turns out they didn't implement the name profanity filter list. Whoops. I'd gone for worse case and thought it was just being bypassed..

Although speaking of the sparklie, they should just grant it to everyone who connects during the right month, kind of like some wardrobe additions.

On the plus side, glad it's not some rogue hacker.. but on the downside the fact that it could be and that we know there's not much we can do yet worries me..

It did seem deliberate. I can't tell much more, I never saw the person and only caught one of the hoods (the second, the third one appeared shortly before the server popped)
I'm thinking though if it is related it's more serious. Either it's not related and it's about hacking or something.. or it IS related, and then it's probably about, well, hacking. You don't pull down the entire server for a day and more with a terse little message just because some twit is making offensively-named characters. Unless, as I said, the twit couldn't make them directly by "create an avatar" and had to hack namechanges or something in, and the game then allowed it because checking was at the create screen and none after (because it assumes it's been done).

Plus, well, can you think of any other big reasons for Cyan to pull down the server suddenly no warning and moreso admit they're working with stuff on it? Not on it, but stuff on it? Sure they could be dipping into the funds and doing some sort of update, but they'd warn us. The lack of any warning implies this was serious, and downtime updates are to fix whatever happened.. and the only one I can think of that justifies yanking the cord like that is black-hat hacking.

Wouldn't be the first time they've shut it down over hacking while they went over to see.. that's why we have the grey hats as a semi-organized group now as opposed to more scattered hackers each playing their own thing. As I said before, this'll be interesting to see.. I want to see what started this and what comes of it.. and how it gets resolved.
If this is related to the hood names, this probably wasn't some guy coming in and trying to be offensive. They had to know that you:
A. Need to name your avatar specifically
B. Get your KI
C. Delete your hood
D. Go to the Nexus and make the new hood
-OR-
E. Know your way around the lattice and how to modify it

When you think about that it really just adds to the severity of the situation.

Not necessarily true. It's possible that there are simply other things that are more critical. Sometimes you just have to wait for the priority list to pop things to the top.

...or they could actually be changing something.

Cyan's style is often to do something, put it in place and then talk about it. This could be one of those cases. We'll know in a few days... hopefully. I do expect some reaction to the black hats playing around.

I'm also curious what the gray hats will do? If the black hats get locked out, what does that do the grays?

whatever the issue is i'd assume Cyan is in the process of working on it. if the server isn't back on by now it's obviously something a tad more critical than a simple maintence issue.

still, it would be nice to have some sort of official word from cyan as to what the heek is going on

[was that too demanding?]

worst case scenario, this is uru armegedon again. best case scenario the server comes back up in a couple of hours and we see if cyan has anything to say about it (as well as any possible ramifications)

if they must draw from their funds in order to get back up and running again, fine by me... this CAVECON level allows for it.
dropping a level wouldn't necessarily be good, but i doubt it'll kill us. so long as pulling from any funds doesn't cripple em, we're fine i suppose... as long as it means we can get back in as usual sooner rather than later with as little repercussions as possible.

the occasional bug fix and (god forbid) CAVECON 4 funded open source was a pipe dream anyway... besides, i'd rather they use reserve funds for when this stuff goes down anyway...

On that note… It would be nice to have some kind of response from Cyan telling us if they could use more donations to do whatever it is they're up to. If it's a security fix and they need to take from the CAVCON fund to pay an employee to do it, I for one would like to know so that I can help out if necessary. I'd really rather not see the CAVCON level fall…
