I have started looking for the changes related to unicode to pull back to OpenUru. I've posted a request for help identifying the relevant changes here. Could the developers involved with that fix please take a look?

I think OHB was planning to change BabelBot over to Microsoft's API. The difference is that Google supports more languages.

Well, that was on the table, but that was when Google was deprecating their API without a replacement. Since then they've released an API which you can pay for at $20 per million characters translated.

Around a year ago we discussed (in the GoW) about the future possibility of porting the BabelBot functionality to the URU client. Of course, this was way before open source. BabelBot as it works now as an overlay window has never been considered a clean solution. And, of course, we'd need a few things done first - like working Unicode support in the client.

Not to forget all the text you lose when accidently hitting those keys without noticing (which is quite often since they don't register in the pre-written text )

I would definitely be in favor of getting support for this in game. It might help ease the transition a bit once Google Translate APIs change and BabelBot isn't as useful anymore. Plus, it might help with some of OHBot's tasks too.

edit : also, as lunanne just posted while i was writing, i also saw some (too many) threads which went off topic. so yes, pls respect the original subject (even if not posted at the right place)

Okay, this is the only back on topic call I will make. This topic is meant to discuss unicode in MOULa and I hoped it to be some kind of petition were people could show their support for it. Unlike what some people might think I don't usually posts topics to become a drama and this one was certainly not one.

So now you, potential poster of this thread, have the choice

a) post ontopic
b) don't post
c) post offtopic and have a fairly good chance I'll ask a mod to remove your post.

I won't have a flame war in such an innocent topic. So back on topic please.

I always enjoy watching the same people use the same manner of thinly veiled personal attacks designed to destroy the reputation of others. I don't know why I continue to be surprised--many of my current friends tell me that before they actually got to know me, a great many people liked to whisper poisonous lies to them.

Why is it that you can out Adam for his so-called "malicious" actions, but when he threatens to do the same he's suddenly a "vigilante"? You've shown not just a willingness to allow your own dislike for someone to cloud your judgement of a specific situation that involves them, but also an astounding lack of self-awareness.

Just speaking for myself and common sense - not presuming to moderate or anything - we can proceed in this manner to a locked thread, or talk about unicode and getting it into MOULa. I prefer the latter as being more progressive and constructive. It might help keep the forums open longer.

Anyone that has read much of the Slackers’ sites and forums comes away with a new understanding of the problems in the community. See http://slackersforum.servebeer.com/ and some of the choice posts in the Slackers’ old forum reveal deliberate malicious behavior dating back years.

Adam has certainly written a plausible explanation of the 902 Haxxor fluke. The problem I continue to have is people’s long term behavior. When I consider that Adam’s threatened vigilante action which comes well after the Haxxor problems the current explanation is not inspiring confidence.

The trust issues with people in GoW are not with everyone participating there, but neither are they with only one person. Nor was trust lost over a couple of events. That numerous people, including moderators on various fan sites and Cyan people, have discussed, or tried to discuss, these issues with involved people and not been able to get through simply shows their perception of issues is different and unlikely to change.

I linked to the article User Sponsored Enforcement Groups in another post to show any group can become a problem and power does corrupt. It is not only the code submitted by those associated with GoW that may be a problem. All code in any open source project needs to be reviewed for security, back doors, and Trojan code.

I can see no reason Cyan would trust a group controlled mostly by those creating community problems and consistently exercising poor behavior and bad judgment to handle code review. Nor can I see why the community would suddenly start trusting people with a long history of poor behavior.

Very simply put, some bridges were burned a long time ago. Many additional bridges were and are still being burned when found. It should be no surprise that people are unwilling to trust. Consider recent posts. So, yes. People on the wrong side of the bridge’s embers do have to consider whether and how they will proceed. Just as the community has to decide who to trust and how they will proceed.
