For Yeesha, remember that we mostly saw her via hologram in Uru. The hologram could have been recorded when she was younger, so that it didn't reflect her true age at the time we saw it. We didn't see her very close up during her brief speech to us at the end of the journey. But, she is pushing 190 years old (born around 1816), so her aged appearance in Myst V is no surprise.

Atrus to look like Rand's portrayal, though. What are the odds that some dude in a game company would magically look just like him, huh? Wink

Ok hope my explanation of this doesn't hurt too many heads.

IC from here on
The game company cyan used real D'ni evidence from the cavern and various DRC resources to portray a representation of actual events. Around DRC ages (supposedly visited by cyan) if the DRC do have access to the island of Myst and more, it is safe to assume that they have witnessed portraits of the family of which Atrus of course is the father. Therefore cyan could have cast someone to play the role who looked most like the portraits in the ages they saw. Therefore when playing Cyans games the Atrus you see will probably have a striking resemblance to the real Atrus

I don't know if I want supposedlyreal!Atrus to look like Rand's portrayal, though. What are the odds that some dude in a game company would magically look just like him, huh?
Ah, IC/OOC. How confusing you are, and how you hurt my brain sometimes.

Well we must remember that timeline wise, Myst 5 takes place in the future, Uru is our present. Yeesha is old(er) looking in Myst5, and Atrus is definately on his last legs, so to speak.

In present time/Uru, Yeesha is still young looking, and although Atrus is not a spring chicken, he's not exactly a grey-beard yet either.

oh and........

I've seen the Atrus Avatar via AdminKi's in UU...whether or not Rand will *use* the Atrus avitar, I don't know. But it *is* there, available for him to use

However, it's really all guesswork to try and figure out how much lifestyle or quantity of D'ni blood would affect lifespan, as well as depending on the individual. There are always those people who live on malt liquor and cigarrettes and still manage to break 100 years old.

Also, we're basically going on the assumption that someone who is 1/2 D'ni and 1/2 human will have the expected lifespan of (D'ni span + Human span)/2. Perhaps a little D'ni blood goes a long way, improving the lifespan beyond the average of the two races.

We should remember that Yeesha's mother was Rivenese, not Terran/human. We don't know exactly how long the life expectancy of the Rivenese is, but we can assume that it was shorter than that of the D'ni, since (IIRC) Atrus makes one or two references in his journals about Catherine aging faster than he does.

So, that makes Yeesha 1/8 D'ni, 1/2 Rivenese, and 3/8 Terran. I think it's safe to say that this combination of genetics makes Yeesha's life expectancy a mystery.
