I really don't like the most puzzles from Uru... waiting 15 minutes (maybe i did something wrong but in uru live i had to wait 4 hours for the pellets^^), minkata, pod age, Ahnonay...
In Myst I didn't like the maze in Selentic, because I didn't understand how it worked, I just went everywhere until i found the end.
And in Myst 5 the elevator in lakian.
What I also don't really like is the puzzle with the water in Serenia. But I love Spire and the dream world
And riven is hard, but it's just wonderful...

From fav to least fav:

Riven
Myst
Exile/Revelation
End of Ages
Yup, that sums it up.

Really, it's NOT a good puzzle. I don't care what you say, sure you can figure the timing out for the portals using the map, but the kicker is a: you have NO indication you're waiting for a portal and nothing you can do will speed it up, b: you have no indication of the timing, when it starts (payiferen helps but not a lot) and c: If you leave for a minute or so you can completely miss the portal, and otherwise you have to wait a good part of a DAY because you have no idea how long the loop is.

I rank it right up there with the light "puzzle" in Path of the Shell, which I had to get a walkthrough because after a minute or so I figured I was doing something wrong and went to see what I could play with. I'm also lumping in the pellet drop vaguely, it was stupid and not much indication, but it was a hack to let us play a multiplayer age single-player so I give it some credit. It's still dumb.

A good puzzle should NOT only be evident post-facto. Those are NOT good puzzles. The annoying part is the rest of Cyan's puzzles for all their games are evident with a bit of thought more or less. And yet these timing puzzles are up there in stupid inane ideas. It's like your nth towers of hanoi in a generic adventure puzzle game. Everyone has to fall back on them at some point it seems and can't resist cramming one into their games somewhere.

Now I feel all bad for admitting I do not favourize Exile. It is very pleasing to play. I just wanted it to be harder I suppose.
Friends again?

rofl, trust me, no offense taken my friend. Exile could have been harder in many places; I'll agree to that. I think the reason why I liked it so much was it had lots of story development about the type of depth that ages could evolve into and that it was ibn part based upon a storyline concerning someone who had been negatively affected by the D'ni culture. You kinda see this in Riven, but Exile really drives it home. Now of course it was mainly a skewed perspective because it wasnt really the D'ni culture as much as it was Sirrus and Achenar, BUT, the influences of the D'ni were there.

But I take no offense to your statement. (actually kinda agree with you in some ways) still friends, lol It'd take a lot more than a disagreement about game/age developments to stop my friendships. Besides, never feel bad for admitting your own truth if you feel it is truth. There's nothing you need to feel bad about, you're allowed to disagree on a personal opinion.

I didnt think it was that hard. 4 was the most frustrating for me, all because of the memory puzzles at the end.

'gulp'
Now I feel all bad for admitting I do not favourize Exile. It is very pleasing to play. I just wanted it to be harder I suppose.
Hardest: Dreamworld Floating Lights Puzzle; requires time and full concentration.
Stupidest: Ercana Pellet Puzzle: I still have no idea what you're supposed to do.
Craziest: I agree with the writer on the Monkey puzzle. Runner up would be the Spire puzzle.

The hardest, hardest, hardest puzzle I have ever faced, was the "weight puzzle" in Amateria (Exile). How the heck was I supposed to know that 2:1 was the ratio for that thing. Anyway, after I eventually completed it the cool rollercoaster ride kind of made up for it.

There's a hangman toy in the J'nanin bedroom, where the 2 scales were. It shows the ratio for a moved fulcrum.

If you found all the views of the ball, that is. It was made to be a little deceptive. If more parts of amateria, and exile in general had held that quality i would have liked that game to. As it is, it just does not MYST it for me

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but at the time I had no idea that it was somehow related. Eventually, after two weeks of trying to solve the puzzle and I used a walkthrough to solve it. The fact I was so close to the solution (about halfway there) made me want to bash my head against the wall but I'm not sure how that would have helped solve the puzzle.
