Hi,

A brief update. I connected my monitor to my old computer, and everything worked just fine.

I then connected an old CRT monitor to my newer computer and that worked as well. I adjusted the resolution to 1024 x 768. Still everything was ok. I shut down and reconnected my LCD monitor, and restarted, and for one brief moment, it seemed to work, until I was about to type in my windows password, when the screen went black, and the 'out of range' message reappeared. Back to the drawing board.

Edit: Success, hooray!

I hooked up my old CRT again, and updated my graphics driver. Shut down and reconnected the LCD. Restarted and set resolution and refresh rates again, and hey presto, it worked.

All is right with the world again.

Thanks for clarifying the slider, Neereus. I can see the joke now.

I restored the factory settings on my monitor, and guess what. It didn't fix the problem. My next step is to hook up another monitor to see if it has the same problem.

I'm not convinced it's a problem with the graphics card (or is that hope), as the monitor works ok in safe mode.

I'll keep searching for a solution. Meanwhile, if anyone has any other ideas, I'd be most grateful.

About not seeing realMyst link in safemode. That's normal, most of my short cuts never make it to the safemode desktop.

If you have another, known working, monitor, you might try that out to rule out the graphics card being bad.

Ok, I know, thats getting old, but I had do it.

Does your monitor have a menu/control button on it? If it does, try using it to reset it to factory defaults, if it has those buttons it should have such a setting somewhere.

What slider? My monitor does have its own control menu. I'll see if I can restore factory settings.

I don't think it's the monitor, as it still works in safe mode. I'll hook it up to my old computer to check.
I hope it's not the graphics card or monitor

I didn't specifically uninstall it, but the shortcut to RealMyst on my desktop is missing in safe mode, but I'm not sure if this is the result of the system restore. I've not been able to start up in normal mode, so I'm not sure if RealMyst is still installed.

Thanks for your responses guys. I'm sure we'll find a solution eventually. I just hope it's in time for the CAVCON party.

                                      Thanks Guys,

I have an LCD monitor, and I already tried adjusting the refresh rate, but the only option I got in the drop down menu was 'use hardware default'.

It sounds like I'm running out of options . Any other ideas?

You need to change your refresh rate. If you have an LCD monitor it should not be more than 60 Hertz.
For older type CRT monitors 60Hz is also a good refresh rate to start with, although these should be able to handle maybe 72 or 85.

Try to start into safe mode again, right-click an empty spot on your desktop, choose Personalize, then Display settings. While you are there check your resolution and adjust if needed.
Next click Advanced settings, then Monitor. There you can set your screen refresh rate to 60 Hertz.

Good luck.
Not 100% sure this will work, but it's worth a try (if you haven't already).

When in safe mode:
Click the Start Button (Windows Icon)
Click Control Panel
Under Appearance and Personalization, click "Adjust Screen Resolution"
Click the "Advanced Settings" link
Click the "Monitor" tab
Adjust the "Screen Refresh Rate" to 60 Hertz from the drop down menu
Click OK
Close out any open windows
Restart computer

Not sure if that's the problem, but that's the impression I got from the first post.
Hope it helps.
