Has anyone tried translating the names of the new ages (Tetsonot and Payiferen) yet?

Oh...

Well...that STILL kinda makes you wonder what the game's original translation is...

EDIT: Heh...maybe in olden times in D'ni, if Gehn caught someone cheating at the game, they got the cane treatment. Hence, "heek" was added to the name.

Yeah, but I still kind of wonder...

You know the game, Heek, that's available in Bevin now? Well...according to Khrees' translation, "heek" is actually Gehn's cane, known to be a weapon of death.

Speaking of translations...anyone know D'ni word for "game"?

It's possible that RAWA was been especially cryptically misleading in this thread and actually gave the definition after all. Perhaps it actually is "the blank", as in "nothing", as in "zero".

(Sigh...yes, I realize that scientifically and mathematically, zero is absolutely not the same as nothing. I knew some of you out there (YES I'm looking at you!) would bring that up so I had to put in the disclaimer.)

I've been using this to create a English-D'ni dictionary for myself for future fanfiction use. Wish I knew some other English-D'ni translation sites so we could make some comparisons.

That all things has the word great in it is subjective. Would like to see the small, unimportant things in the game? Logically all we see in the game are important things to history and storyline. So all those things were for D'ni people great things. When you count D'ni words for something special there are less words that haven't the word great in it.

Hee hee, though - now I'm imagining the D'ni going about their daily lives, pronouncing everything great. At dinner the Great Roast was served! At bedtime, the Great Story was told! At work, Great Memos were written!

It might just be that we only hear about the things that are labeled "great". Would be nice to get some variety though.

The D'ni must also have defined the central point of a system of measure as being the "zero point", since they incorporated the D'ni zero digit into the decoration of the area. But their word doesn't include "great" or "zero", so the DRC's term is not really a translation at all, but just a convenient English description.

(Does anyone else get a little tired of everything the D'ni did being prefixed with "Great"? Didn't their civilization ever invent the thesaurus? )
