This would be great. Maybe it could be a more general Cyan email with things you like/what have you been doing/CAVCON meter?

And good to hear you have people that work on the website now. Can we read between the lines and assume you're healthier than in the past with the new website and forums and potential projects? :D

We've gone back to 2.4 for the beginning of this month, as is customary, but keep in mind that the excess 90% of last month was combined with what little there already was in the reserve fund before CAVCON 1 to do so; if we don't keep reaching at least 3 each month, this cycle will keep repeating itself until the reserve fund is really completely empty.

As I said last month, I firmly believe people will not permit that to happen. It will be a long time before a month ends with a CAVCON 1, no matter how touch and go it may be prior to that.

I have to think that's a typo and it should read "051851 AgeVisits"?

Perhaps the amount of 015851 AgeVisits is right because the MOULa Rolling Outage 7/25?

Good point, I'd forgotten about that. Hmm, even then it still seems on the low side, when you compare with Logins and UniqueUsers :? .

2.7 as of August 15th. We're in very good shape to get into 4 territory again this month. :)

I have a question regarding the reserve fund and CAVCON levels.

We ended July at 4.9. According to the first post with the breakdown of what each level means, that means donations covered expenses, and exceeded costs by about 90%. That goes in the reserve fund. Since we were at CAVCON 1 at the beginning of July, the reserve was empty. At the start of August, the reserve fund had roughly 90% of a month's expenses.

So does that mean we can get close to an estimate of how full the reserve is? For example, if August comes out to about 4.1 when RAWA updates the meter, is the reserve fund now at roughly 100% of a month's expenses? So we could say the reserve can fund one month.

Here's where I'm going with this:

RAWA wrote:
CAVCON 5 is the best state. It means that donations are exceeding MO:ULagain expenses, there are a couple of months of MO:ULagain expenses in reserve, and extra money can be put toward server upgrades, bug fixes, new content, incorporating fan created content, etc.

If, as I speculate, we can guesstimate the amount of reserve funds, we could potentially be able to figure out how close we are to getting "a couple of months of MO:ULagain expenses" stored away. Right now by my calculations, we're about 45% of the way to two months' worth of reserve funds.

Does that make sense to anybody besides me?

Yup, makes sense to me. And then, we can work out how much each month contributes to the reserve fund (be it positive or negative), add that on, and have a new guesstimate for the current size.

The one flaw in this logic...(and this is my impression, so it might be incorrect)...would be to account for the bandwidth used. A month of high explorer traffic will cost more than lower exploration months*.

Be aware, I'm saying: ''In my opinion." I could be wrong on this issue, but it is my current line of thinking regarding the funding levels.

(*Nev's Note: Aka, winter versus summer months.)

Yes, there'll be some month-on-month variation in the expenses due to differing levels of usage as well a differing levels of effort required to "support" MOULa. But RAWA will likely be figuring on an "average" month so over a couple of months things ought to balance out, making Malfhok's theory a reasonable one. He's certainly right that the "1.x" at the start of July means that fund should have been effectively reset during the month, so we now have a gauge of how much is in the kitty right now.

Over time though, don't expect the total to be easy to track reliably - with a resolution of 0.1 and dealing in balances that may be only 0.2 or 0.3 you could easily accumulate a significant error over a few months.

More importantly though, I suspect that Malfhok is interpreting RAWA's words in the description of CAVCON 5 literally and hoping that having two months in the bank will miraculously release some new content from Cyan. Apart from anything else, I think the scare in July means that there's some need to ensure there's something kept in reserve for a rainy day, so I'd think that RAWA's "couple of months" ought to be read as "several months".

Personally, I've always read that as 3-4 months "in reserve" since there is 12 months in a year, and to me only then would we have a healthy reserve amount for any type of "complex" add-ons.

Again, just my own opinion.

I think we must've had maybe 2 months' reserve or more back around the time of that 4.9 month.
