Well, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of eye rolling. Certainly this is a topic I would have been given to laugh off, but there you have it:

The D'ni major deity/God has a name sounding very much like Yahweh (Yahvo)

The D'ni are exceptionally long-lived, which is a possible interpretation - accepted by many, although not all - of dates and ages given in the Biblical Old Testament.

I cannot draw any conclusions from the D'ni "Christian-like" philosophy, as many societies placed emphasis on the same things D'ni did, if to varying degrees. Reverence for mothers did play a major role in other societies so that is not necessarily evidence one way or another.

Finally, they're out there in the desert where many groups have claimed this Lost Tribe had gone off to (although I hope we all realize that Native Americans-as-tribe view the Mormons have held should not be a part of this discussion, and it is offensive to many to bring it up, and as far as I know there was no contact between the D'ni and Native Americans).

Alright, I know you folks have got some views on the matter, let's hear 'em Smile

There's documentation for the reasons for this elsewhere. Much of it stems from Richard Watson in Israel.

I haven't found it, but I'll take another look. The explorers' ability to get into everything pleases and amazes me, as always.

A couple good places to start:

The Religions of D'ni: click here.

DPWR.net: click here

D'ni Wickpedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D'ni (couldn't get the url tag to work on this on because of the ' )

I think the resemblance is superficial... mainly because the storyline of the D'ni and the Hebrews are so different if you study the culture and civilization of both.

I think if you look at his location: Israel... that probably says it all!

Also there could be the large possibility that the similarities are because of the fact that Rand and Robyn Miller grew up the sons of a Baptist pastor. Also being the son of a former Baptist pastor I can see where they get the source of a lot of the D'ni culture and a lot of it seems to come from the Jewish/Hebrew religion of the Old Testament.

As far as a lost tribe, all thirteen tribes (Yep, there is actually thirteen because Joseph's sons made up two tribes.) made it to Israel so I'm not sure what you are suggesting with this lost tribe in your title.

Thirteen because Joseph got a double portion (one for each of his two sons), but they were still known as the twelve tribes of Israel.

Extra lolz because I finished a game called Nocturne in GameTap the other day...main character has your name as well Razz

Anyhow, hey, I'm not saying I advocate this myth or whatever, I just wanted to hear everybody's thoughts on it. Guess we can bury it again, then, which I don't mind doing.

I think that people are influenced by what they read, and it comes up when you do fiction - when you create a new world. Sometimes I think that people do it without even realizing that they are doing it.

Well d'ni are a fictional people, and i don't affeliate my religous beliefs seriously toward fictional things, and why should the belief that native americans as a tribe be discluded, it's alot less offensive than saying d'ni are.
