In regards to people talking about this 450+MB update that occured yesterday, I believe that you aren't going to see to awful much new stuff as far as new ages until they release the MAC client next week. That way no one will really get left behind.

OH! Erm, I thought they went to military basic training and were allowed to have computers. That's why I asked about their MOS, which is their military job. AIT is the specialized training that teaches you about the job you will do in the military. I am an MP (Military Police) soldier. I figured they were in the Air Force or something; Air Force boot camp is more like summer camp than military training. ;p~

Just curious as to when the Mac version of URU Live/Gametap would be showing up. I've been running it on my Windows XP partition via Boot Camp on a 17" Core2 Duo MacBook Pro but it will frequently lock up and reboot my computer! Now I'm not here to start a discussion about which computer is superior *cough* MAC *cough* but I wanted to give the MAC Myst community an avenue to sound off about Uru Live coming to Mac!
Just give us a time frame that's all we ask!

I'm kinda surprised you've been having stability problems with bootcamp. I've been playing Uru on my iMac C2D with no trouble whatsoever. Methinks you have something other than GameTap on that partition...

I installed BootCamp just to play Uru, and it will be removed as soon as Uru is available for OS X, even if it is a bit slower (quite likely). Parallels works quite well for everything except gaming. Also, my copy of XP was only willing to activate under Parallels, even though Parallels is running it through BootCamp.

I do have to wonder how much of the code in Uru is Windows-specific. So far, all I know of is the physics engine (PhysX), though it does support the Xbox360 and PS3 and Wii. Ageia really should release a Mac OS X SDK. Are the graphics done with DirectX or OpenGL?

I have The Sims 2 plus all expansions installed on the partition as well! It's like something just overloads and then it reboots the system back into OSX! I still have over 4G of free space so I don't really see why there would be anything wrong with me having multiple things on the Windows partition. Oh well, I'm just looking forward to next week!

Edit: MY GOD!!! ERGHHH!!!! Just got to spend about 15 minutes in Neghilan (mspl?) and then my computer crashed! The sound started skipping and then it just automatically rebooted! ERGGGHHH!!! The MAC version can not get here too soon!

Crying or Very sad NOT FAIR...I'm gonna be left behind and my Mac isn't that old, it still runs beautifully...HOWEVER, it's not an Intel Mac, it hasn't even needed any repairs yet. It hasn't even reached the point where it needs to be replaced... Crying or Very sad someone from gametap said that they were considering making Uru compatible with the non-Intel Macs. Has anyone else heard this too?

That's highly unlikely. Only the graphics cards of the last generations of PPC Macs are fast enough for MOUL. This limits the target group to a small amount of people with fast but old PPC Macs. The technology to run Uru on Intel Macs isn't compatible with PPC CPUs. It requires i686 compatible CPUs.

It's also incredibly unlikely because the technology they're using to port the game is not compatible with non-Intel macs. There are no plans by Transgaming or the Wine team to port the technology to PPC, and the effort would probably require a year or more of work.

Well I said that already. Besides it's not possible, too. WINE is not an emulator (WINE = WINE is not emulator) it's an alternative implementation of the win32 and DirectX api. It will never be able to run programs compiled for i686 cpus on a PPC cpu. The differences are too great. PPC are big endian machines and the G4 and G5 have an Altivec engine while i686 compatible cpus are little endian machines and have a MMX and SSE engine.

It is not possible with WINE's technology. It would require an emulator.

Sounds interesting, wonder if there will be "any" differences or new features!
