I don't think it'll be Gehn. Cyan have made it fairly clear in and around EoA that the story of Atrus' family and their squabbles is now told, done and over. I think this will be a new threat, possibly natural, possibly Surface-based.

In EoA, Yeesha says that she is unsure of Gehn's present state, so I doubt he will play much of a role at all in times to come.

*spoilers*

Gehn is either ruling "over that desolate place" or "he is in another cold, desolate place; where there is weeping."

This says (fairly clearly, I might add) he's either still trapped, or dead. I doubt Cyan is going to pull what Ubisoft did with bringing back their old characters.

My money's either on Kadish, Esher (since I'm not quite sure when EoA takes place in relation to Uru... I'm willing to bet, though, that it's much afterwards.), perhaps even Calam. Or, like others have said, it could be something environmental (which would explain the powerful tremors felt in EoA).

I just meant that Yeesha probably hasn't been off to see Gehn recently.

I'm thinking Esher, Kadish, or Earthquake as well.

what would we do if the Bahro suddenly decided we weren't wanted in the cavern anymore? i'm sure they could do a pretty good job of tearing things up.

Three things:

1. Earth will not die. That would be impossible to explain IC, because IC, D'ni is real, so IC, it is real that Earth died, which it didn't

2. D'ni will not collapse. If it did, it would be noticable on the surface, which would be impossible to explain IC, for previously stated reasons.

3. If you examine the text of the quote in question ("Rumors abound of the destruction of the cavern of D'ni. Underground, the vast empire of D'ni limps back to life, even while evil brews in its darkness. Destruction is coming Find a way Make a home"), you will note that the destruction of the cavern is labeled as "rumor." It is therefore much more likely that the destruction of the cavern is not the destruction that is "coming," because the destruction of the cavern is only a rumor.

Well, look how many rumors just that quote has started. So I guess the whole "rumors of destruction" was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not many noticed when D'ni fell the first time around. Destruction doesn't need to be total annihilation, just enough to prevent the place from being accesisble again.

I was referring to a structural collapse, a massive cave-in. If this happened, then it would be noticable on the surface. Also, if only the passage down collapsed, or something, then we would still be able to relto in and out. So I don't think that the earthquakes in Myst 5 signal any disaster for D'ni. I think it is more likely that that is artistic license on the part of cyan.

I just assumed that we just arrived at a time when tremours were at a more fewquent level, but I suppose the magnatude would have been increaced to make them noticable to the player. (if the quakes were too weak, then you might just think it's a glitch)

Ae'gura and the City Proper could be destroyed without a massive cave-in, and then it would be kind of pointless to hang about in the cavern anymore, so we'd have to move on.

There weren't that many...well, no more than the usual Gehn/Ghen, with a bit of Releeshawn and the Tree of Posybilitys.

Geting rid of the cavern would be an insanely stupid idea if you ask me, I have been waiting for Uru for almost 10 years now so I could see the Cavern, and I felt that Uru didnt really give that to me given the small amount we got to see.

I am not the only one who wants to see the cavern.

That said, destruction is coming doesnt nessicarily mean the cavern, it could be destruction of the community, destruction of the work that has been done etc.

Personally I'd like to see some new people entered in the fray so its not always "oh its going to be Esher...no Kadish...no wait Gehn".

Its just personal preference, I know people like to see more of old characters but I prefer looking forward to meeting new ones.
