Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the meeeting yesterday in the Pub, that was scheduled -- nor can I attend today's. In the future Saturday's will work for me, but today I already have plans. I look forward to reading chatlogs of these meetings when/if anyone posts them.

Per Pryftan's list, here is my profile for everyone's reference:

USERNAME: Metaigahn
KI #: 07728403
SKILLS: design, writing, textures, admin, music/audio (some), python, Blender (some), and web scripting

To contact me, please leave a message here, or use my e-mail below, or find me in the cavern!

And I hope to see everyone at future meetings...

Cheers,

I did send a ki-mail to Pryftan, but have no way of knowing if it was received. I am a published historian IRL and in my vastly checkered career once worked for a computer game company as a content writer. The game itself never launched, but I did come away with an understanding of what is needed to write for something that must latter be interpreted by artists, rendered by uber-techs, and then tested by players. It will take teams with complimentary skills to produce even the simplest age.

Looking at the ages we have seen in URU there is a "training age" in the Cleft. Many are meant to teach us something about the past. Great Zero marker calibrations and Ercana allow us to help the community. And Jalak has no purpose other than to allow us to play as we wish. We have places that are private, places that are shared with neighbors and the many public places.

We are learning a complicated, multi-stepped task, so the fewer steps we have to take the more quickly we will be able to produce something to showcase our fledgling abilities. For instance, suppose we wanted to create a world outside of one of the pods (not Tetsonot Sad ) or to wander the woods surrounding the structures in Gahreesen. Would we be allowed to use a previous age as a template and then work from there, adding new paths and puzzles?

A great deal of what we can do will depend on what we may do, and for that we need to hear from someone at Cyan.

I've got you on the list, Inanna, if you look around the middle. On my full version of the list I've got a notes section which mentions that you're a published historian, but I removed that part when posting the condensed version so that it wouldn't look jumbled. The full version is an Excel spreadsheet I'll get up somewhere when we have a forum.

BobLishman, I think I remember recieving your information very early on and I'm afraid it got lost in the shuffle. After about an hour, the thirty or so KImails I had recieved at that meeting all suddenly wiped themselves. I thought I got all the information anyway, as I had been writing it down on paper as I recieved each message; however it seems I did miss one, and I'll add you to the list immediately.

Thanks, Pryftan. I look forward to working with all of you on this grand endeavor. I can recommend a couple of books for those who want an idea of what is involved.

Hamlet On The Holodeck by Janet H. Murray

Writing For Interactive Media by Jon Samsel & Darryl Wimberley

I read them both years ago when I worked for Imaginaria and am re-reading them now for the GoW. Technology has jumped way ahead, but some of the process will, no doubt, remain the same.

You should be able to read all of the discussions without having to create an account; but for spam reasons, you can't post as a guest.

Y'know what'd be helpful, at least in my opinion, is a program like WoW Model Viewer, only for Uru. So we can preview the various objects from the game, etc. Would help with machinima as well.

PRPExplorer has/had an Age Viewer and object viewer. If I recall it's broken in the most recent version though.

You can also always import the Age into Blender with PyPRP, but that should only be attempted with small Ages Razz
