Post Posted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:31 pm — Post subject: Canyon Jump

I found this bit of creative writing I had done back in 2004 after looking at a screenshot I'd taken of an attempt to jump to the Concert Hall platform in the canyon. Here's the picture, followed by the narrative. I hope you like it.

I stood on the edge of the ruined bridge, gazing into the canyon. Such waste. What secrets lay hidden in this Great City of Ae'Gura, just beyond our grasp? Were there other areas to explore that remained hidden to us? I scanned the rock walls of the canyon, looking for signs- of what, I didn't know. I had a sense that I was missing something. Something right in front of me. I was about to move on, when the obvious descended upon me with sudden clarity- the Concert Hall! How could I have missed it? Could I make it across the great yawning canyon to the observation platform that jutted out invitingly below?

My pulse quickened as I calculated my angle of attack and trajectory. It would be close. I felt an eerie calm about me as I faced the platform. Could I pull this off, or was this madness? My heart hammered in my chest, echoing in my ringing ears. "It's now or never," I thought.

Like a shot I took off across the jagged edge of the bridge, aiming just past the broken railing. The enormity of my task struck me full force as I launched out over the vast chasm laid out below me. I had executed my jump well- forcefully, with purpose, my aim true.

Time slowed as my body arced out over the expanse. I reached out, willing myself forward. I could see the blue glow on the polished stone of the platform as it loomed ever closer, but it soon became clear there were other elements at work. I began to feel the insistent hand of gravity pulling me downwards with increasing intensity. The platform, so close now, lurched upwards, silently mocking my foolish attempt.

My heart sank with the realization that my efforts had been futile. The weight of my failure filled my mind, even as the weight of my being pulled me faster towards certain doom. With a start, my attention shifted to the rocks below, reaching up to me. Surely I would perish here, alone...

As I closed my eyes , I felt a strange serenity overcome me. My flailing arms fell to my sides in acceptance of my fate, when my right hand brushed against the book at my side. Relto! Strange how in moments of panic, things that are so ingrained in us can fly from our minds.

Swiftly I opened the cover and placed my hand upon the glowing panel...

Even if you would have been to get to that mysterious balcony/entrance,
it would not have worked because there is no solid ground over there.

I did check with my Uru CC flymode and it is not solid.

Btw, if it have been possible, it would have taken you under a lower Concert Hall's floor.

Here is an enhanced view(because of the darkness) as seen from the end
of the walkway just before the stairs leading up to the front of Concert Hall.

Yes I am aware that there is no solid floor there. My narrative was from a strictly IC point of view, which is why I put it here in the Creativity forum.

wow, I will have to re-visit my Uru CC version.

Because of the private markers game, yours is either
the Until Uru or MO:UL version. Laughing

Thank you for sharing this great moment.

You can also ask probably any skydiver for the "Bridge Routes" marker game. (Yay skydivers!) I can also share it, feel free to ask.

Sorry for side-tracking your thread Deius! I enjoyed your "journal entry." I wonder what your explorer might have to say these days?
