Everyone,

With the recent notification of MO:UL's closure on 4/4/08, besides continuing to help players in the GoG Bevin, our webteam is also refocusing some of our energies to improve our existing walkthroughs for the other games in the Myst series (Riven, Exile, Revelation). We realize that hints and guides already exist in other gaming sites. However, the walkthroughs on these sites is several years old. It is time to update at least the appearance, to hopefully appeal to a new generation of Myst players.

As usual, we're open to your thoughts and suggestions.

Not to stifle development but what is the point? There are plenty of sites out there already that encompass the D'niverse as a whole, is yet another site like that needed?

The argument that these walkthroughs are old only work when it comes to something like MOUL, given that Riven etc doesn't have a change of content.

If you really feel the need for other walkthroughs then I would suggest offering up links to sites that have them instead.

I would encourage the GoG to improve on their walkthroughs. I personally found the Minkata walkthrough to be spectacular, and couldn't find anything else like it on the web. (Thanks, GoG!) Additionally, it gives them something to do to remain banded together after the closure. It would be a shame to loose the wonderful team they have when the Cavern closes, so redirecting their talents in other areas would be a recommended choice. Not to mention it would suck to loose 1 Guild while the other 4 find ways to keep going.

A few days ago, I remember someone saying that some new players
did say that they thought the Greeters had been rude with them.
At the time, I thought it, to be impossible.

Well, late last night, it happened to me and some visitors.

Most of the people getting responses were the ones using "voice chat"

The ones using regular typed chat were ignored.

I told them that I was tired of speaking to walls and left them. Crying or Very sad Razz

a big booo to the ones present at the time(the ones using voice chat)

Artic, I'm sorry to hear this. I encourage you to PM our Guild Masters here. Tell them everything you know and provide chatlogs and/or video if available.

Tweek, Nynaveve hit it on the head. Uru will die but the Myst series is still out there. Fans have come to expect a certain level of quality from the Greeters, and we are ready to serve. Let us know what other sites are out there that have walkthroughs. Perhaps our updated work will never compare with their spendour. But on the other hand, perhaps our desire to update may yet give a fresh contribution, and keep the interest in the series going. The community will decide, but know that we are here to serve, long after Uru is gone.

The Writers are currently developing different kinds of Ages that work with Uru: CC and the ULM. Some of these are puzzle Ages -- for example, Takla Ma'kan, and Shell 111 of Ahra Pahts. The Guild of Maintainers is testing these for bugs AND for the puzzles, providing feedback as requested by the Writers.

One major point has cropped up already: we need ways to share hints and spoilers to help those of us who aren't so hot at puzzle solving. We're doing this at the moment through parallel spoiler threads on the GoMa forum.

In the future, when these Ages are finally released, they may well need the walkthroughs and hint systems that the Greeters are so good at producing. Would that be possible?

As a contingency plan, in case February 4th really was the end, the Writers (together with the Maintainers) are looking into the possibility to continue the story and history of Uru in a new setting and engine - taking the Guilds history as storyline cetnerpoint. Ofcourse, we are waiting to see what Cyan does before making any definite plans.
If the contingency plan is deemed feasable, and we need to put it in motion, (support from) all the Guilds will be welcome.

Dot, we thank you for offering us the opportunity to write walkthroughs for these test Ages. While we will not be doing any actual walkthroughs for them until Cyan okays the Ages, there are probably some one those within the Greeter community who may be interested in test-driving them out. The impressions that they get may be incorporated into a real walkthrough in the future.

Oh, can a MO:UL Mod please sticky this thread, as this is the Greeter thread for new links, releases, walkthroughs, and so forth. Pretty please.
