I have a website, www.urucontinues.com, which is far from perfect and needs tweaking in various places, but it's a start, certainly. I've gotten 1600 visitors so far to the *NEW* Urucontinues.com - which is a promo site for the relaunch of MO:UL,

Your above link to urucontinues is not working because you have one "coma" too many after the .com

You know,I just looked around in the net.

Maybe we are in a bubble, but the fact is: people HATE MOUL.They say "myst should be played alone","the game is outdated, stop pushing it","let the game die" and so on.

If we want to bring more players,we will have to work VERY hard. Each do his part.

I don't understand this urge to make amateur marketing. I think it just makes the game and the fans look desperate. MOUL didn't die out of lack of marketing, but from lack of content and tasks to do on a daily basis in the game, which other MMOGs have.

MORE might manage to keep the players busy everyday, but in a different way. If the guilds evolve well, the players will be making the game with professional quality assurance from Cyan. That will keep everyone busy. Even those that just want to play and explore with be guaranteed more content.

Leonor: if we will work only on the content,we will stay in a bubble.

I've seen many people who play ABM,but they don't even know what MOUL is.

And yes,one of the reasons the game failed was poor marketing.

Some people came, some stayed, but some left, because of the "less quality cyan content".This is one problem that we should fix: giving good fan ages and many thing to do,so people who will come, won't leave. The other reason is the poor marketing- even though people came,it wasn't enough.FEW people came. So,this the other problem we should fix: get more people, introduce them to the game.WOW do that, and is WOW desperate?

WoW fans do home posters and print their own T-shirts to advertise the game? And that brought the millions to it?

Ah...you got a point... Laughing

But still, what do you suggest? We NEED to recommand the game to other players. There's no use ONLY developing the content, when there are not enough players.

I'd like to suggest reaching out to the plethora of science fiction conventions out there, aka sci/fi cons. I attended those for over 20 years. I can tell you that getting game companies at a con and having their own panel discussion/demonstrations was a great way to reach out. Most also had flyers in the flyer rack, free promotional items, artwork/models in the Art Shows.

There are small local cons, regional cons, themed cons, and one of the biggest is Worldcon. Worldcon attracts THOUSANDS of attendees every year. Regional cons can average one to two thousand yearly. There are sci/fi conventions going on every weekend all over the place. Sci/fi gaming conventions are out there too.

Even if Cyan just focused on going to conventions on the west coast, it would promote Myst to a new audience. Send the flyers out everywhere they can, all that would cost is the paper, printing, and postage(though if someone offered to take the flyers with them to a con...).

All the cons I'd gone to had a program book with ad space that could be bought. That is another way to promote Myst.

I'd bet that there are a good number of us who could advise Cyan about science fiction conventions, which ones we'd suggest, and so on. Hey there Cyan Worlds, there is a local one coming up in Spokane called "SpoCon 2008" on Aug 1-3, 2008. Give it a try and you never know how far the ripples might go.

Very Happy

Okay, I'm going to say this once and once only.

It is my firm belief that a major contributory factor to the low numbers on MOUL was the vociferous presence on this and other public forums of a section of the player base who felt their function was to complain, at each and every opportunity, that there was no new content, that the new content was slow coming, that the new content was boring, that the new content was too easy or too difficult, that the game as a whole was laggy and slow and full of bugs and that they were on the verge of cancelling their subscriptions. (Some of them stayed on the verge for months. Some are still here.) Whenever anyone commented to their complaints, they repeated the complaints.

I am not disputing that some of these statements were true. Nor am I disputing the complainers' right to make these statements. I had complaints about MOUL myself, and I voiced them, so I'm including myself in this indictment.

What I am saying is that making those statements in that quantity, in a public forum, where prospective new players could see them, was bound to damage the game's numbers, and anyone with half a brain could have seen that. So what I am suggesting is that, if and when MORE is put into action, those of us who want it to continue and grow try to keep the complaints to a minimum, and perhaps have a place to put them where they are not the first thing someone sees when s/he goes looking for information about Uru. Those of us who do not want it to continue and grow...well, they'll do what they will.

There is a place for honest criticism, as any theatre manager would agree. Shouting "IT'S RUBBISH!" through a megaphone at the queues outside the box office is perhaps not it.

Zander: I agree with you.I think there are many things that should be fixed, but I don't complain. But,is getting more people = complain? we are just for the good of the game.I never complain much, instead,I try to act.

Yup, see rygynjupiter's thread for exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. All he wants to do is reiterate what he said in the original post, and any and every comment he gets is an opportunity to do just that.

Sweet, so I've already been labeled as not being a real fan by someone because I'm not head in the clouds in love with Uru, but also I contributed to it's downfall.

And all this before breakfast..

Seriously though it's ridiculous to think for a moment people will not complain about a product, some times it got out of hand yes, but a lot of the time complaints were justified, might be a news flash to some people, but Uru wasn't perfect.

People should be allowed to talk about these complaints and problems.
