At the risk of incurring the wrath of the NCC (No Complaints Crowd), that is one strange press release. It uses the word "roadmap" three times, yet never clearly identifies what the heck the "roadmap" is. It seems to be this statement:
Quote:
The plan is to start to move the content creation - the "Art" - to you. In addition the guilds themselves will start to exercise some authority in writing, monitoring, approving, communicating, etc.
Now, the "authority" part is what I found interesting. If we keep the parallel to actual Guilds, they had a charter, granted by the king or other ultimate source of power, that specified what craft or other central organizing principle defined the Guild. The charter concept is important here, because if Cyan is going to grant "authority" to the New Uru Guilds, it sure would be nice to know exactly what that authority covers and what it does not cover. For example, what criteria will be included in "approving" a new Age? That's the sort of detail that a charter could (and should) cover. (And what the heck "authority" covers in "communicating" is beyond me.)
Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing more details of the "roadmap," but sincerely hope Cyan doesn't fumble this one like they did the liaisons. Give us some strong, clear rules, which can be developed with lots of input and discussion with the "community," and this could work.
