I guess, with this name MORE will succeed and become familiar - not only for URUites, I hope.

Parable wasn't an acronym IIRC Wink

They should have called it MO: RE WAFFLES.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the NCC (No Complaints Crowd), that is one strange press release. It uses the word "roadmap" three times, yet never clearly identifies what the heck the "roadmap" is. It seems to be this statement:

Quote:

The plan is to start to move the content creation - the "Art" - to you. In addition the guilds themselves will start to exercise some authority in writing, monitoring, approving, communicating, etc.

Now, the "authority" part is what I found interesting. If we keep the parallel to actual Guilds, they had a charter, granted by the king or other ultimate source of power, that specified what craft or other central organizing principle defined the Guild. The charter concept is important here, because if Cyan is going to grant "authority" to the New Uru Guilds, it sure would be nice to know exactly what that authority covers and what it does not cover. For example, what criteria will be included in "approving" a new Age? That's the sort of detail that a charter could (and should) cover. (And what the heck "authority" covers in "communicating" is beyond me.)

Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing more details of the "roadmap," but sincerely hope Cyan doesn't fumble this one like they did the liaisons. Give us some strong, clear rules, which can be developed with lots of input and discussion with the "community," and this could work.

Zardoz, I agree. Multiple groups throughout the lifetime of UL have tried to get such a "charter", up to an including the DZS when we set that up. To this point, Cyan hasn't chosen to extend that authority. But if that's the way they are going here, great!

While I'm excited about the concept of new Uru, I think I'll save my bouncy smiley faces until we get just a little MORE information... Wink

I hope Cyan Worlds will go on with the official story...it doesn't cost anything to enter the game as a DRC,right?

Anyway...why does Cyan Worlds always call the game "Myst Online"? what about "Uru Live"? Laughing (I always call it MOUL...)

MYST is what they (Cyan) are mostly known for. If you had not previously played Uru and saw an ad for "Uru Live" you wouldn't have a clue what it was, Maybe you'd check it out maybe not. . . . where as, "Myst online" grabs the myst fans out there who may not have even heard about it yet. . . .I think there are many! look how many stumbled in here too late and posted that they had just heard about it.

It seems that is one thing that lacked in MOUL. Advertising! I think the word of mouth of the fans was just not enough. And the official advertising was much too limited. . . . They need to keep the MYST in the name to hopefully bring in more exsisting fans, so those fans can bring in NEW fans Laughing .

oh and /me chants : MORE MORE MORE ! too Laughing

More information from and about the roadmap will be forthcoming... it does exist, but it's vague enough and fluid enough that when I passed it along to Marten, we decided it would be best if the details (such as they are) of the roadmap were released at a point when someone from Cyan would be guaranteed to be on-hand to answer the inevitable bevvy of questions it will bring up. Thus, Marten's working on getting a press conference-type thing put together, and I'm sure the GoMe site is probably the best place to stay tuned on that front. At the same time, though, Cyan did authorize us to release the information they gave me, and so Marten went ahead and posted the full message from the MORE team that precedes the roadmap, so that folks would have more to go on besides the somewhat detail-less post from Tom Sowa. I apologize if this seems shady of us, but we wanted to make sure that when the full deal came out, people from all quarters - including Cyan - would be ready for the resulting conversations.

In anticipation of the roadmap's release, I do want to try and manage a few expectations. This is not going to be a finalized plan with dates and hard milestones. It is what it says it is: a roadmap. It's a basic outline of what Cyan wants to do with MORE, and while there are some big ticket items in it, the roadmap itself is currently light on actual implementation specifics. It's going to require a lot of communication between the various Guilds, and between the Guilds and Cyan, to hammer out all of the details of this plan.

I talked with Rand and RAWA about all of this for nearly an hour, and we ranged over a lot of things that aren't even on the roadmap yet in terms of Guild responsibilities and such, the details of which will have to come from within the Guilds and from dialogue with Cyan. Half (or more) of the roadmap (pretty much the entire UCC half) simply won't happen without a lot of communication and rule-making. Rand especially was very intent on working and dealing directly with the Guilds in as many matters as possible, especially communication of news and updates through GoMe, which I think will be the starting point for a lot of what comes next. However, I have to stress that this is going to take a lot of patience on everyone's part. I would not expect to have a system in place for getting UCC into MORE even by the end of the year. I think there will be progress on that front - significant progress, even - but I don't think the entire system will come together that fast. Cyan is super-short-staffed at the moment, and the folks who are still there don't all keep the same office hours, so communication is likely to be a bit slow in and out of Cyan (which I think is why Cyan's throwing their weight behind communicating with/through GoMe), but it will happen; it has to if this is even remotely going to work, and I think Rand and RAWA understand that very well. On top of that, the UCC system is going to need cooperation and planning from a number of different community groups, including GoW and GoMa (obviously), and I suspect that just getting everything in place on our end will take a fair amount of time. In fact, I think the first step to UCC in MORE would be to just get it up and running with the content we had in April, and re-start our monthly all-Guild meetings, making sure we invite Cyan to attend as well so that we can hammer out as much as we can together.

Thanks, Al, that sounds quite promising. The best part is that it looks like Cyan is going to handle this in a more upfront and transparent way than the dreaded liaison affair - which is to say, they're going to do it out-of-character rather than in-character, which always adds unnecessary layers of ambiguity. Super!
