I recently started playing myst uru again, and was wondering if I'll have to redo the work I did on myst uru when myst online comes out again?

Yes, we all will have to redo everything. All progress made in Myst Online: Uru Live will be lost. Uru: Ages beyond Myst and Uru: Complete Chronicles are not compatible with the version used online now, as the physics engine was changed, so you will have to start over.

Doesn't matter the physics engine was changed.. this is the real online thing, and uses server-stored stuff instead of offline files.

At one point they were gonna do imports for UU but it never worked. UU wasn't quite Live either.

Don't worry, after the third or fourth time you've been through this, you know the stuff down by heart. I don't even have to think anymore to pass the ages (well, ok, maybe Minkata, but only because I never got the hang of the quick-directions)

It worked fine for Uru ABM save games. But people tried to import incompatible expansion pack save games which corrupted the vault. So UU shard owners who wanted to keep their vault healthy always disabled imports.
To the player that option still seemed to be present even if it was disabled on the shard they logged into. So I can see why you think that it "never worked".

Joshual, if you still check this topic:

No, you cannot tranfer progress from the singelplayers game to the online game. They are very different. Different engine and all these things. However, I believe you can have fun if you will do these things again. There are some changes to the content, and you can do the puzzles (or just explore) with friends.

If you want to have some fun, and if you have the patience to see this game grows and changes, than you will enjoy the game. Hope you stick by and join until the game is released! Smile

Nah, I knew it was disabled.. didn't know it worked ok with ABM saves, but I never tried it. In my experience it was disabled because it never worked right. I'd call breaking the vault "not working", offhand. Razz

Point made though. Don't worry, when MORE comes along, many of the ages will be the same.. but as a benefit, you can go and explore with friends this time alongside. You'll be surprised what little details you missed the first time around.. plus, this way now that you know the overall plot, you may catch subtle clues buried away you never noticed!

I know I did when I replayed them all in UU, then again still in MORE!
