Mine was taken from the game Omikron...The Nomad Soul . He was the commandant of the police force in the city proper in the game. Although I am a follower versus the leader, I chose it just because I liked the name.....

I liked the name Gondar... it was picked back in high school. In turn I used it on the net, and it stuck.

no, it's NOT a mis-spelling of Gondor. I didn't even make the connection until long after.

As for MuffinCakes, people were handing out nicknames once.. and I thought of one completely silly to hint it was me, but at the same time one that I wouldn't HATE being called (because otherwise I'd get stuck with one I would). So I claimed it as mine, and it in turn stuck. Very Happy

I've been using the name Anna Catherine in the Myst online community since 2001, and while I actually am now rather bored with it and wish I'd been more creative, people know me this way now, and it's too late to change. I picked that because of two very cool women in the Myst series, and it's only two letters different from my actual first and middle name combination, Hannah Catherine.

I used Annacat as an avatar name in Uru because it's a little less blah, yet it's a clear smush of the two names, so people can still recognize me. Smile

CREUX
i was listening to eric saties "songe creux" when i was creating my first avie in ULTIMA IV back in 80's, so i picked the avie name from the song and have used it ever since. i also used the nick's "aureliano" after aureliano buendia (100 yrs of solitude) and "king mullet" after having lost nearly all my hair...
but creux is the mainstay.

Nice round number of posts Mari' 555 Smile

Mowog. Since I asked you about how many MGs you have, I've been meaning to take a picture of a nice green hardtop combi that is often parked in the street outside my appartment. Chance have not yet made it possible.

My first MOUL name was RymdApan (Space Monkey). From a game we used to play in the schoolyard as kids. We played space explorers, and I played an alien monkey that was part of the team. With some that name stuck. Anyway, when I picked that I did not expect to interact socially in MOUL. When I realiced that I felt the name was to odd. I changed it to Frej. Just thinking it was kind of neutral looking and that other scandinavias would still assume I was swedish. Now picking the name of the god of fertility... could as well have been lingam if I was indian Rolling Eyes . The name was never really me, and those that knew me well started to use my real name in KI communications, so I do not think I will be Frej should we meet in the cavern again.

I had another I had thought of when I first was trying to find an internet nickname but then it came to me one day at work. When I was a young whipper snapper, the adults always said "your never to old to try something. So I abreviated it to Nvr2old and it stuck. Now alot of cavern friends shorten it to Nvr.

Words have power and so do names but since some people are sharing, why not. Itiseye Mee is a simple play on "You are you". Nothing more to it than that.

I used (A long time ago, on an IRC channel far, far away) to be "SparHawk" (Yes, taken from a book), followed by "Anakha" (From the same book). The problem I had was that other people were just as (un-)imaginative as I was. Fortunately, when I met my wife, she came up with and suggested "Anaerin". Where she got it, I have no idea, but as there was 0 hits on Google for it (At the time), I took it and made it my own.

Interesting Trivia: Every hit for "Anaerin" on Google (Bar one, Ana and Erin have a page up somewhere, and the filename is anaerin.htm) is me. Smile

I like squid! Or squids!
I think the first one was correct...

On the internet in general I am Squid Tamer, as the word squid is too common.
I think it all started when I needed a Google account name, but don't trust me on that.

Plus, my name spelled backwards sounds CREEPY, like a torture device! Exclamation

The story of my nickname is simple, despite most people never notice the double 'e' and they think it is just because the normal name is too much popular.
That's not true. First of all, I decided to use Gilgameesh since my first MMO and for these reasons:

1. I wanted something related to the concept of immortality (the sumer legend of Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk in search of immortality), because it is the very big human dream and we have found it in the MMOs (yes, we are immortals in MMOs).
2. I used the double 'e' because since the first Myst, I loved the D'ni universe and I found the name fitting well with D'ni language.

The nickname is not related to Final Fantasy (where there is a Gilgamesh in the story).

It was originally Gilga'meesh.

Unfortunately no MMOs around allows apostrophes in names, so it became just Gilgameesh in Anarchy Online (my first graphical MMO).

I was happy at the end of 2003 to use the original name Gilga'meesh in URU Live, the place it was meant to live in.

After that experience, I simply decided to use always this nick and almost all my mains are nicknamed Gilgameesh or with little variations when needed.

During Until URU, I decided to use only the nick without apostrophes, to be sure I can use the same nick in every MMO I play. The same nick I adopted to play Myst Online, when it reopened.

Despite you can find many Gilgamesh around the net, when you see Gilgameesh (the double 'e'), 99% it's me Smile

Mine is a similar story to TomahnaGuy but specific to my name rather than gender. Daz is a RL nickname. Although I'd played Myst games since the mid 90s, I came to Uru late, when MOUL started. I had only played the standalone To D'ni and was bowled over by the Cavern itself so I picked "D'ni" without really understanding it, thinking of it as a place rather than the whole civilisation. Being naive, I assumed I wouldn't be allowed the apostrophe in a user name so dropped it.

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the name now. It seems pretty trite and unimaginative, but I'm quite attached to it. I wish I'd picked something more evocative, but I don't think I could ditch it now and come back as another name. I'd feel like a fraud.

Have any of you others changed names over the years?
