So is this where we can discuss all the new goings on and talk about the coding of the game in depth (the engine, python etc) i.e. keeping it exempt from the other forums?

Nice new section. Smile

Yes, mostly. But try to keep the technical discussions in the Open Source Mystonline - Technical area.
And actual code discussions should take place on the open source repository site... when it becomes available.

Thanks,

No, there will be a bug tracker and the like... possibly a wiki depending on which repository site is used.

Thank you, hard working mods (in particular Veralun, since he seems the most active nowadays, forgive me if I am wrong, but I have not seen many mods for a while now), for sorting through the "rabble" and providing these sections. Yes, it was starting to be a bit cluttered in the general forum, so this will be very helpful indeed!

Ah, so similar to the old Alcugs svn and Trac?

In a general sense, yes, this is typically the way of things.

Thank you so much for the new sub forums! I was floundering out there trying to sort through the noise to get to the messages. Wink

This should really help.

Uhh so what is a repository site and a bug tracker and everything like that? And what will I need in order to play once MOOS is ready?

You need the client to play. All the technical discussion applies only if you are a to be a host.

A respository site is like an SVN (Subversion repository) where the code that is released is stored open to the public. A wiki normally accompanies it.

A Bug Tracker is something similar to what Cyan set up in Uru Live where anyone can submit a ticket that gets added to an internal database which can be responded to privately or publically. The ticket entails a specific problem with the code or the game.

'Everything like that' will have to be a bit more defined. Wink

I went to OpenURUdotorg to see if there was any separation in the tech side/client side of the discussions and alas, not really. Wishes and wants, and what to fix and what to create are all mingled. So I started a thread, The 'In' box asking that a section be set up, technical for one, client requests/ bug fixes the other. No responses yet, but it is the holidays. May not even be the right place or too early to start that subject.
I just know from my 'small' IT background that 'New Enhancements' are a different pile from 'Error/bug fixes' and that these categories fit both Hardware and Software topics. Just different people involved usually.

Holidays is correct. Wink

And I will give you and everyone a helpful hint that if you can recast your discussion threads as real projects, and take responsibility for organizing others into those projects with a goal to achieve, I think that will be more effective. There are more resources available than just the forums to support your ideas. As everyone knows, OpenURU.org is not just another forum. Wink

OpenURU is another forum, like any other until Cyan decides how to give us the info we need to rrun the new servers. Until then we wait for them to decide and enable what will happen. The rest is community activity.
