I'm a Half-Life fan and I think-just in my opinion-that this helmet sort of reminds me of a gas mask worn by Corporal Adrian Shepherd from "Opposing Force". On the other hand, the real one makes me think of Combine "Civil Protection" units from HL2, and likewise, the older ones look like a brownish version of "Combine Soldiers" later in that same game.
