I mentioned in an earlier post that Cyan could make about $4 million in revenue if they sold to just 5% of the iPhone's 12 million owners, but it's actually 17 million. 5% of that could net Cyan about $6 million after apple's take. That's a low estimate in my opinion.

Without meaning to sound at all rude, let's not pull figures out of the air like this. It only leads to rumours, which are never good.

We have no idea who, other than Cyan and Apple, is taking a cut of any money generated. Cyan could make millions, or they could make squat. If we're being realistic, neither of those are at all likely.

Ok, so it's been nearly 12 days since the announcement that Myst will be submitted to the app store "very soon". I'm getting impatient. Is there anything at all that you can tell us?

Don't forget to factor in the "App Store Approval" time period.

Myst was submitted to Apple on last Friday night (late)(4/17/2009) for approval. Now we wait. I've heard that it can take anywhere from 10 days to 2 months.

Ok well if you can't tell me I understand, but there is something else I really want to know that you should be able to answer. At the startup of the original Myst, there was a little intro video for cyan, with a sweet melody playing and a flyby of these white weird structures. Is that in the iPhone version? I love that video.

And Islander, I guess I was "pulling numbers out of the air", but 17 million is the estimated number of iPhone owners. I just wanted to show that even if a low percentage of iPhone owners bought the game that a large revenue could be earned at a price of 10 dollars. As for how the revenue is going to be divided up, I was incorrect because I was under the impression that Cyan was funding this project. I still think that they will make a nice bit of money, hopefully enough so that they will be able to fund iRiven on their own. I think it is very possible that they could make several million dollars from this. Then again, I am no market analyst.

Yes, there's multiple ones though, the one in riven was different than in myst. The one in myst has white buildings, the one in riven was like two planets. Either way, that just made my DAY!

Well, anyway, we all enjoyed the original myst, right? so why won't we show the iphone myst site to other people? maybe in some forum with lot's of retired myst fans. The site wasn't created for nothing! Wink it can be good for us AND for cyan worlds.

Hurrah! I might just have to break out the wine myself to celebrate once it becomes available. And have some wine to celebrate the news, period. And... er.... maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to drink some wine.

cough.

...remind me not to spill any on my iPhone, would you?

(Remember: friends don't let friends link drunk. You just KNOW what could happen then. Wink
