Post Posted: Tue Jun 16, 2009 10:23 am — Post subject: List of bugs i've found

Hi there. I'm new to the forums here, but i am an avid myst fan. I remember playing myst when i was around 8 years old. I didn't really have the mental capacity for the more intricate puzzles, but now, looking back, i really did get quite far as an 8 year old. I remember travelling in the Mechanical age aswell as the Selenica age. So i must have figured out some puzzles hehe.

Anyway, as to the bugs i've found.

1) Even if you haven't returned a single page to either the red or blue book, when you place the 'final' page into a book, it counts as though all of the pages were returned. It loads the cut scene and the game finishes.

2) There are some lag issues in D'ni (spelling?) with Atrus. I feel the game freeze and load again after 10 or so seconds sometimes.

3) There are also two orientation glitches in the Maze. One has been mentioned on the forums in detail. The one where you get trapped and cannot escape. The other one i've found doesn't cause you to be trapped but you still cannot back track. I've included a picture of the maze bug positions.

That's all i've found. Myst is an amazing game. And i must say that i am proud to say i've completed it without walkthroughs. What an amazing experience.

I am really interested in this Myst Online. I missed the boat it seems, but i'd LOVE to see it come back. It sounds amazing, I really hope it eventuates.

I think you're the first one to discover bug #1!

D'ni is the correct spelling. There are a few instability problems in K'veer that are fixed in the next update... Not sure if your bug is among the fixes, I hope so!

I guess the third bug will be solved by the next update, because there were more problems with the backtrack button:

+ Selenitic - maze - backtrack button functionality

Welcome to the forums and hopefully Myst Online will soon be available again! Very Happy

Hi Swarmo, welcome to the forums!

The maze problems are indeed in the update, which should be out any minute now. . . *crosses fingers that Apple gets that done ASAP

I think the "lag issues" you are referring to sound like a known issue which has to do with Quicktime, that occurs with the movies.

A bit of trivia I only recently learned. . . D'ni is the correct spelling now, however in the original Myst - it was actually Dunny!

Not sure if you are refering to the white page when you say final page, but yes, that is supposed to trigger that particular ending when you go to Atrus with it even if you have not returned any of the other pages. . . if you do not have the vault solution you'd need to figure that out to get it tho, which takes you to other ages.

. . .to get the other endings the red or blue pages must all be there, and as far as I can tell, from all my many times doing it, Wink that is the way it is in the game, right? If I am misunderstanding your experience please be more specific so we can investigate it further. Thanks

This is not a bug and this plays exactly like it does in the original (on the Mac and PC).
I don't remember the reasoning, something RAWA could enlighten you on.

The other two bugs are in the 1.1.3 update... that is still "In Review".

Thanks,

In regards to the first bug that i mentioned, i feel that despite it being like that in the original PC version, it is still a bug. It doesn't make sense for either brother to be brought out of the book with a single page. It goes against the entire concept of missing pages imprisoning you. I knew that i had atleast two of Sirus' pages to return, so i wanted to hear his speel and con act. So i returned his page from behind the mantle and the game ended. I was disappointed, because it forced me into losing, when my plan was to open the green book. I guess i just feel cheated because i was planning on the correct ending haha.

Thanks for your replies and kind words. I'm happy to be part of this community Cool

Shocked well I just went in the game and checked this out and you are right! I will let Chogon know this and as verified . As I had said in my previous spoiler, if it was the white page you returned first it was normal to get the ending even tho no other pages were put in but I don't think it is with the blue and red pages, but I may be wrong. If Chogon tells me otherwise I'll post here or maybe he will Wink . Thanks.

Yes, we intentionally made it so that returning the red or blue page from the fireplace automatically finished the Book.

The reasoning in 1993 was that hints were harder to come by than they are now, and if you were able to get those red or blue pages, it was extremely likely that you'd already finished the game the right way at least once and were just wanting to see the endings again.

We were trying to be nice, just as you can go straight to the fireplace after starting a game and get the "good" ending if you already know the fireplace code. We could have made it so that even the "correct" fireplace code didn't work until you'd brought the pages back of at least one color, but we don't like when other games do that, so we didn't.

Hope that helps,
