Just FYI, that map is a pre-production sketch and it's not really accurate with the current in-game form of Ae'gura. There are similarities, but you'll notice for example that the Great Stairs lead directly up to the Guild Hall (which obviously isn't the case in the game).

Nalates: it's a shame you couldn't finish that map... it'd been cool thing to have, coordinates and all. (Especially during evil marker hunts. Evil or Very Mad )

EDIT: also, that map of Teledahn on that site you linked to is amazing!!! I wish we could have more maps like this... Isn't the GoC active anymore??

I may go back to working on the Ae'gura map... some day. I wanted one that was to scale and that I could overlay the coordinates on. With mirrored hard drives I got over confident and lax backing up. I never expected a failing raid card to scramble both drives at the same time. Not only the map was lost but a large amount of production work. I was too busy to go back to the map for several months and then... just was not into it.

The first page of the Tech Site goes into why the guild formed. There was a need for it and people were looking for maps. Also people wanted more Myst-Uru. Making maps, cataloging planet and animals and all sorts of other things were part of what guild members were into for getting more Myst. Lots of things were being done by GoC members.

At the first closing the demand for maps decreased and plus most of the maps were made. Through the UU times people were figuring out how to run servers and becoming interested in building ages. Patrick the focus energy source of the GoC became ill. With no active game, people turned to other things. During the second Uru Live many maps were already made and the Guild of Writers was building ages. Fan moved into more specialized groups mostly centered around GoW efforts. A few new maps were made. The Ahnonay simulator was my last completed map. But, with other guilds available and Cyan's plans to do more with IC guilds the GoC style laissez-faire type format not much happened.

Until there is another need for maps... or some way for GoC to be of service one probably won't see much activity.

Also many think the guilds are RUN by someone... top down type organization... which is not so much the case. The guilds are groups of experienced people with similar interests. Mostly they enjoy helping others that are interested in the same things. The guilds are where they can provide help to others and the rest of the time be involved in what they like, age creation, art, music, programming... and display their work and record what they have learned.

See a need and fill it. People that don't get that are always wonder why the great ideas they give the guilds and fans are seldom acted on.

Patrick is fine, AFAIK. We last spoke in 2008. He eventually recovered and was well.

We exchanged some emails when the Aden lead GoC forum was starting up. Patrick was involved in RL projects and not available to help.
