I saw recently that Blizzard has gotten the rights for the physics engine (don't remember its name) that was used in URU and Half-life 2, but which was never ported to mac. However in the article it said that Blizzard was planning on using it for PC and mac games, so my question is could this mean that URU could be ported to mac at some point (for those of us without an intel mac)? Although Blizzard has the rights, perhaps this means that the company is now more willing to let others port the engine.

Uru Live is no longer using Havok, because of the aforementioned lack of a Mac port. Given the fact that the PowerPC is on its way out, and that porting to an Intel-based Mac would be FAR easier to do than porting to the PowerPC, I kind of have to wonder if Havok even plans on supporting the PPC.

Either way, Live is using the PhysX physics engine, which is, as I understand it, already cross-platform compatible. However, a Mac port is still dependent upon getting Live out and running (and well-supported) on the PC first, 'cause it's a GameTap game first, and let's face it, the PC is where the money is these days Wink. I just hope it eventually makes its way from my wife's PC to my PowerMac G5 Smile.

the new UL doesn't use Havoc for physics anymore. It now uses PhysX. PhysX currently has mac ports for "specific developers who maintain the ports themselves."

At some point in the future, PhysX may be ported to Mac. Until then, we won't see UL on macs.

Yeah that makes sense that they would want to wait to make sure there is a solid PC base first, I just hope that it happens, I was really annoyed when I realized URU would not be coming out for mac, especially since I've played through all the other Myst games. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Are their any updates on a mac port? I flipped over to mac a few months after signing up to beta and I can play it on my windows machine. But it's now my custom made dvr, so it's a bit weird playing uru on a 32in SD tv.

It would be nice if Cyan would say something about this, even if it's still the same old line of "we'd like to, but not right now."

How about Cyan port their old games to Mac OS X while we wait?

Actually, Cyan has said many times (and even recently -- see various Town Hall chat logs) that they've love to... but not right now. (Still depends on the success of Live and funding for a MAC port.)

I know they really would love to...

They probably would run into distribution rights trouble, especially once you take localizations into account.
