Actually, a linking book could be an excellent means of escape. I had an idea for an apparatus that would attach to a linking book. The device would have a spring hinge that closes the book when it's not being held open. Once the device is switched on, the person links through. The cover would snap shut and activate the device. It would then destroy the linking book with a thermite reaction.

Now given the fact that linking books are quite rare and we currently have no means to produce more, it's kind of impractical to waste a linking book on a one time escape. Still a more dishonest individual could get into a bank and make off with a lot of money.

Of course, we explorers wouldn't need such a thing since we have our Relto books. Wink

Which is why we're probably all on government watch lists somewhere.

Does anyone know where in NM the photo of the "real" cleft was taken (from the Prima strategy guide)? I'm going to NM next week and wouldn't mind seeing it for myself.

I realize this is a long shot...

Well, the cleft is suppose to be in Eddy County. That's the Carlsbad, NM area, also home to Carlsbad Caverns. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

Perhaps the Continent is wrong. I couldn't find a cleft but the name sure sounds familiar

Not to forget the special paper and ink needed to even write a discriptive book.
and The one thing everyone has forgotten is the writing of these special books
was not like the D'ni's normal writing. forgot the name the D'ni used for it, but
It was alot like the chineese block charactors where one of them can say whole concepts
in which if the same thing were written down in english words it would take up many notebooks!

The Bahro are far beyond what the D'ni could accomplish because of their Rules in the Skill & Art.
there were limits to what a writer in the guild of Writers could write things they could not go beyond.
The bahro symbols I believe work and are every simular to the chineese block charactors although
a lot more advanced, but simple at the same time. And IMO a clue to unwinding the bahro
language.

I don't remember where it was exactly (I've since formatted and lost my bookmark), but I was looking in NM in Google earth and found a volcano, and a little to the south of it, there was a mysterious long, slender, black spot. And I believe it was in Carlsbad.

I'll have to try and find it.

EDIT: I can't seem to find it anymore. I saw something that looked similar, however it had way too much touristy stuff near it.
