Post Posted: Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:04 pm — Post subject: Unclassified Mushroom in Taladahn???

I was poking around in the D'ni Zoological Society and I think they may have missed one mushroom. After trying to compare it to known species the clossed I could find is the Calvatia gigantea or Giant puffball I guess since this one is green it would be called a Calvatia Virens Gigantea or Giant green puffball. Unless someone already discovered it. If not I'll havta do more resurch on it and see what I can find out, it would make an interesting soup
Calvatia Virens Gigantea

I believe the fungus you're describing is documented as the Blue Bracket on the Teledahni fungal classifications page of the Zoological Society's wiki. Very fascinating link though, I had no idea there even was a D'ni Zoological Society. Razz

You might be right but on the forums the Blue Bracket mushrooms look more like an oyster mushroom then a puffball

the pictures are on the last post by rebusquilla

Ah! You're correct! That just affirms the importance of including a picture with the rest of the information. When reading the presented info by itself, one could swear your photo and the description were a perfect match when in fact they differ greatly. It would be a good idea to inform the DZS of your findings, but from the looks of the forum thread I just scanned through, they've been dormant for a good while. Sad

Very nice find. Looks related to the "pin shrooms." They resemble the heads of those shrooms.

There has been a little activity lately. Wink

Why not join and add your contributions? Cool

I believe there might be some new or not heard before critter noises in one of the Ages. Check out Ril's post.

Sorry about that. Registration appears to be turned off. Confused

Try contacting an Admin over there.

I posted a request to look into the registration issue.

Registration turned off?

On speculation, the registration might have been turned off during the long lull to reduce spam and bot maintenance.

Interesting, I had never noticed those growths before... They do look remarkably like the heads on a pin shroom. Perhaps they start out as a "puffball" stage, where the head grows fully formed, and then the stem starts growing in sections after the head is mature?

Regarding the "dormancy", it has been a little quiet over at the DZS lately. I think the Cavern closing for a bit limited our access to our research, and things haven't picked up again quite yet... Wink

Hopefully we can get the registration thing sorted out soon, it'd be great to have you join our discussions!

Sorry about that, everyone. The registration system is now active, and I would encourage anyone who wants to join the discussions to register!
