I run the launcher and I only get this message, for an indefinite amount of time.

It sometimes happens to me too - I found an answer in Technical Discussion/Common Problems under Patcher. I delete the UruLauncher process in TaskManager/Processes and it then works fine. Hope that helps you too.

There are two similar messages, Checking for patcher update and Initializing patcher. Killing the process works for the second message, not the first which the OP had.
To resolve Checking for patcher update, set Uruexplorer.exe and / or urulauncher.exe to Run as administrator (not the shortcut).

I think the problem might be that your patcher version is early enough that it is incompatible with the current version of the automatic patcher update. You should redownload the installer from the "Play" page above, because the patcher included with the downloader is the correct one. You shouldn't need to delete any files or uninstall anything except maybe delete the old patcher.

That didn't work at all.

Try reinstalling from the Play page as was suggester earlier. You have such an early version of the patcher, it's very possibly that it isn't connecting to the right location.

Make sure there are no urulauncher.exe processes running when you reinstall (Task Manager > Processes)

I have version 1.871 and it's stuck on "Checking for patcher update." What do I need to do?

I would delete urulauncher.exe and uruexplorer.exe and download MOULInstaller.exe from here and reinstall over top of your current installation. Having most of the files already there should make this a relatively quick reinstall. The current version is 1.893 and your 1.871 may be too old to properly trigger an update.

Yes, 1.871 and earlier used a different server. There may have been a short migration time where both worked, but the only thing you can do now is to get the newest launcher manually.

Ok, that's what I figured. Thanks!
