You are the first to survive Teledahn on Win 7 then. Congrats. Yes, I guess the RC could be the explanation.

What is the provenance of this patch?

This is a link to an official patch, release, I believe, by Ubi.

http://www.the-deep-island.de/uru-tools/Myst5-Vista-Patch.7z

(note, not at the Ubi site, of course, but archived.) =)

(note that this site also hosts the UAM fan Ages downloads, among other things, so if you don't trust it, then you don't trust much of anything =P)

I'd also wonder about that, since it contains a 499kB executable that isn't in Chogon's patch mentioned in the first post of this thread. And as recently as April this year, Heimdall G was still saying on the Ubi forums that Chogon's patch was the "fix" for Win 7: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3471054943/m/2871001258?r=1721051258#1721051258

Edit: The link Kaelis gave is essentially a copy of Chogon's patch but in a 7zip archive rather than a "vanilla" zip file.

I am sure that not all problems are affected per the Win 7 system. I have all the Myst games on my Win 7 notebook and they are working fine. The only thing i had to setup was update & compatibility.

realMyst - had to update to latest ver., set as Win 98/ME - turn on extended mem 2048
Myst (dos) - erase all the older qt files - set as 98/ME
Myst (256)/Annv.DVD - set as 98/ME
Riven - (dos) - set as 98/ME - turn extended mem 2048
Riven Annv.DVD - set as 98/ME
Exile - CD/DVD/Annv.DVD - default
Revelations - DVD - default
Uru CC: - default
Moula - default
EoA - deafult

I got Myst V to work correctly with a disc crack. (I was getting the disc error when I had an original disc) Still can't fix MME but now I have a realMyst dilemma, It wont work in Win 7 and when I try to install the patch it said the old files weren't found. Please help somebody.

I tried all the tricks I could find but never got the realMyst boxed version to work under Windows 7. Then I recently bought the version sold by GOG and that works perfectly. Even though I had to buy it again it was $5.99 well spent.

D'Lanor, what version of Quicktime do you have installed? I recently bought MME from gog.com and installed it, but forgot that I don't have any QT installed, so when I launched MME it immediately dropped me onto the ship dock, no intro played. I'm going to uninstall MME, and install QT before reinstalling MME...but I'd like to know which version I should be looking for.

RealMyst is not the same game as Myst Masterpiece Edition. It is the 3D remake of Myst and it does not use Quicktime.

I also bought Riven from GOG which does use Quicktime and works fine for me. However, I think it comes with its own Quicktime player because the Quicktime installed on my system (7.6.6) refuses to play the Riven files.

I would recommend for rM to buy the gog version. The other fix for it is very seldom found. It involves getting a copy of the actual demo2.exe file for rM and renaming it to the proper exec file.

1) realMYST - fails (same problem as Vista)
2) Myst ME - successful.
3) Uru/ABM (w/ v1.2 update) - successful ( runs even better than on Vista!)
4) PoTS (w/ To D'ni) - successful
5) Riven (w/ v1.02 update) - successful (sound is a bit choppy but playable)
6) Myst III Exile - successful
7) Myst IV Revelation - successful
8 ) Myst V EoA -successful but requires Chogon's patch to replace missing audio and graphic init files. Otherwise, the game stack dumps on launch.

For games requiring Quicktime, I had to load no version higher than QT 6.5.2.
The original Myst was not tested. (I can't find the CD Embarassed )
URU:CC was not tested since I do not have this version.

(edit: I forgot to make clear that this is for the 32-bit version of Win7. I have not tested the 64-bit version)

Which of these will work for 64 bit?

UPDATED up to 8-28-2010

So far confirmed:

URU:CC (Anaerin- page 1)
realMyst- from GOG (D'Lanor- next post)
Riven- from GOG (D'Lanor- next post)
"This particular Riven distribution has a journal bug though which makes it turn two pages at once. Whether or not you can control this depends on your own and your mouse's ability to send extremely short clicks."

Anyone with win7 64bit get III, IV, or V to play?

So far:

URU:CC is confirmed

I have realMyst and Riven from GOG running successfully on Win 7 64-bit without any workarounds applied.

This particular Riven distribution has a journal bug though which makes it turn two pages at once. Whether or not you can control this depends on your own and your mouse's ability to send extremely short clicks.
