At any event where people had to organize themselves (the times in MOUL when people grouped together to look like a spiral, a shell, Sharper's mustache, etc.) and at any event organized by fans with one view of Uru, but attended by people with a range of views.

You have a point there, Hitana. There were indeed some unpleasant things going on, and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable too. But as I see it, that’s just what humans do, and the only way to ever get anywhere is to learn to ignore it.

Also, in hindsight, to respect the feelings of those who feel their experience diminished by the presence of a spamming bomb-bot or by a public city filled to the limit by a bickering crowd (and I do think these people should be respected as far as possible, may they be a minority or not), I think it would have been better to hold the event in, say, the Guild of Robots’ Bevin. That would have worked just as well story-wise, e.g. with an announcement of “OHB will demonstrate some new features of OHBot” instead of “nothing happening”.

And, obviously, the scheduling was unfortunate. I feel a bit bad for having contributed to something that completely undeservedly made Hitana unhappy Sad – even though I don’t share her opinion of the story. It was silly, yes (we’ve come to expect that from OHB), but in a good way, for me.

The only way we'll get back to "the good old days" of Uru is if Cyan starts charging for it again. Because the people who really care will be here to the end.. and the people who are only here because it's a free MMO and use it as a chatroom or a way to ruin other people's fun will be long gone. But that won't be happening any time soon. At this rate it'll never happen. Cautious optimism and all that but it's been 7 years.. patience wears thin even for this long-time Cyan faithful.

I have a sneaky suspicion that this is at least partially targeted at me...in which case it's wrong. I'm not in URU because it's free. I paid for URU before and I'm paying for it again with donations. While URU was gone I paid for my There.com account and I still pay for my SL account. I'm in URU because it's URU...and I will continue to be here whether there's a monthly fee or not.

I can't stress enough how much the event didn't go as I envisioned it would. Then again, there wasn't a lot of historical examples to look at...but if I had known it was going to lock up the city for 6 hours...yeah, I would have held it in a hood instead. Then again if I had done that more people would have been there throughout...and those who did other things instead (because they couldn't get into the city) wouldn't have been doing other things instead.

Well you can only please some people some of the time. Frankly I can't believe what I am reading.

He is someone that has taken initiative to try to entertain us and suceeded with some of us. Personally he doesn't deserve this treatment. I for one think this type of thing is need more and I will never belittle the effort made by all involved. Who cares if it is not to do with canon and the like as long as it is fairly entertaining which this was to some degree.

So when is the next chapter that is OHB and his Arch Nemesis? Will Adonis get what he deserves (a nice prison cell). Will the Bahro help OHB in the future? Will an event go off without someone getting upset? Very Happy

No plans.

Not every event can be perfect.

Now there's a thought. I kinda doubt it though.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say 'not a bleedin' chance'.

Wow. I miss a day and look what happens. Smile

The way I see it, you could consider this "bomb" threat story as kind of a beta test for the inevitable influx of fan content when URU goes open source. As OHB himself said, it didn't go exactly how he thought it would, but from the sound of it, he's taken some lessons away, and so could others thinking of their own stories to tell.

I, for one, encourage most fan creations, be they OHB's bots, White Knight's Guild of Peasants, fan Ages, any goings on of the five Guilds, or what have you. I respect that they're at least trying to drum up interest. Really, there's not much else going on.

If you don't like someone's ideas or how they present them, simply tell them your opinion on the matter and be done with it. And in the extreme case, there's always that handy /ignore function.

There's no need to leave the cavern and URU behind entirely. If you're not pleased with the direction URU is headed and want to do something about it, try to steer it another way. Come up with your own story, ideas, etc. and add something positive to the whole experience. Just don't be surprised if what you create also comes under fire by a few people who don't "get it". Wink

And, that's a good thing, IMO because the minute they stop complaining is the minute you've lost your audience. Every DRC appearance was followed by complaints, too, so count each one you get as a measure of your success. As they say, "there's no such thing as bad publicity." Wink

Yes, some people were being rude, a lot of people are going to regret things they said, me included. However, most of the time, people were being rude because they thought it would help. Early on, we had Hafo, who kept poking that bot no matter what, back when we thought that we needed to keep it from running down. Most of us thought he was doing good, me included. Later, by the stairs, we were divided when Megan tried to get us away from the bot, but we thought nothing would change by standing away from him, while she thought (correctly) that things would change. While we were divided at sometimes, we only were because we thought it was best for everybody.

However, when someone who wasn't trying to advance the puzzle, and was really just nuts, we all banned together and stopped giving them what they want. When Adonis came in, OHB changed the puzzle so he couldn't affect it. When Franzl came in, everybody quickly /ignored him.

When someone was actually being rude, we wouldn't let them ruin our fun.

And I think it was very creative, too!

Perfect! Absolutely perfect! With the kind of technology we have today "open source" things are going to become more and more common, and we should welcome that. But we also need to be careful: there are people everywhere who will try to do things like OHB's awesome event/puzzle thingy, except they'll be dirty, or offensive, or just downright mean in some way. But if we "vote with our feet", so-to-speak, then those kinds of people will have to choose to either be Ignored by everyone and miss out on all the real fun, or wisen-up in order to better interact with others. I think wisedude321 said this perfectly:

I really hope that none of us forget yesterday, both the good and the bad, since even the bad has started to push us further into the good now. As an FYI, I recently updated the Guild of Peasants website with some more comments about all of this, since the Guild is all about individual projects like OHB's as long as they're good and tasteful (and done for upper Life Level reasons will ensure that they will be). As far as I'm concerned, OHB, you get an A+ from the Guild of Peasants, for being just a regular guy who stepped up and did a good, fun, irregular thing! Well done!

My post was not directed at you OHB. All the times Ive been in your company have been very pleasant experiences. I was referring in general to people who just cause disruptions. While it's pretty obvious I disagree with the way certain things about this new Uru are handled, some as a result of your actions, I do not hold that against you. A living breathing Uru is all I ever wanted to see and I congratulate you on attempting to capture some of that spirit. It's just unfortunate that some people take it upon themselves to disrupt anything that has potential.

I'm glad to hear that. I hope that means you'll change your mind and stay and work for good. Smile
