Edit: Volfram may be right! Haha. Guess I got too excited. Anyway, yeah.

Don't take this the wrong way, but posting that here was probably a bad idea.

For one thing, you could be treading very close to NDA barriers. I don't know how most people are with Non-Disclosure Agreements, but I'm downright paranoid about them.

More importantly, the first thought I had upon reading that was to try to give you some advice on how not to screw the movie up. I'm not going to do that, though, because everyone else who posts in this thread will, forgetting that as an intern who probably will never touch the project directly, you have about as much impact on how the movie turns out as an ant has on the house being built a mile away.

Cool news, though.

Chances are that for the project to actually go into production, the tone of the script will have to be drastically different from the feeling one gets when playing any Myst game.

Don't forget that the movie is based off of Book of Ti'ana which has no connections to the game what so ever.

Feels good to have a thread about nothin', right? Just a place to chill. Kick back. Etc.

Either this movie turns really bad and very different from the show (Like "The Last Airbender"), or really good and quite close to the book (like...I don't know...Narnia? I guess you can find examples Razz ). In this early stage we can't tell.

BUT, notice that Patrick and Adrian are both avid Myst fans, who wanted to produce a movie because they love the books and the games, and not only because they want to make money. So I trust their script would have a Myst feeling. Obviously it will change, even a lot, but I trust the feeling will stay.

Of course that there are a lot of differences from the books to the games, but you can't say they don't share some stuff. The dealing with an outsider, reader realizing bits of the story on his own to get the big picture...awesome character development Razz some of these things could be done better, maybe, but there is still some connection in style.

I mean, the Book of Ti'ana isn't, say, a comedy, right? I haven't read it, but I'm guessing the tone is very similar to the games. Wink

I'm sure Adrian and the other Mysteriacs (Patrick's gone now, according to the blog) are committed to staying true to the original story, but the fact is that a Myst movie is going to be an expensive movie, and for a studio to front that kinda money the story is going to have to have some serious mass-appeal.

I actually don't thick changes would be a bad thing. It's more important that a good movie is made than that it's completely true to Myst canon, in my opinion.

I wouldn't think so. From what I can remember from the book the tone was definitely different from the games. Well, maybe Veovis is kinda Saveedroesque but that's about it.

Well, it does - sort of. The actions described in the Book of Ti'ana brought about the fall of the D'ni, and the abandonment of the Cavern which we were called to restore. So while you don't need to be familiar with the book's story to enjoy Uru, it certainly adds to the rich back story that makes Uru so cool.

I was harsh in my wording, but my main point was that you shouldn't read the books and expect the same feeling as the games.
