I decided to try Portal and I have to say one word. Amazing. The puzzles are simply outstanding and the dark humour in the game really is a bonus. This is one of my most fav. games for the PC, and definitely claims No. 1 for the best ending credits. Overall the game is epic and well-done. Some people say the game length is a bit short but I rather like it that way. Any longer and it may have gotten a bit repetitive.

I liked Portal but not nearly as engaging as Myst

See, I found portal even more engaging, in some respects. =)

Portal was... beautifully designed.

Riven, however... Riven is probably my favourite game of all time.

Same here.

Has anyone played Alan Wake? I'm thinking of getting it.

unless you perfer rocket launchers and health packs and uber pretty super rendered explosions and arterial spray, you won't find much of anything on the xbox (360 or otherwise)... that system was designed to have beer spilt on it...

so if you're looking for a myst experience on the xbox... look elsewhere

of course when talking about the "Myst experience" keep in mind that Myst was designed with a clear, solid purpose in mind and is really it's own experience unto itself and no one has even so much as come remotely close to duplicating it...

those who took myst's premise simply stamped out poorly contrived knockoffs; that's about at close as you're going to get.

that being said... someone mentioned shadow of the collosus, and i would care to interject that game's spiritual predecessor, another PS2 title known as "ICO"

ico is more of a zelda than a myst in its feel (with a light emphasis on rather redundant combat) but with a heavy Mystesque emphasis on puzzle solving (that often goes far beyond the zelda "push the block" puzzles) with a healthy dose of atmosphere... it's also one of those games like riven where they don't assume the player is simple and refrain from spelling the obvious out for you; instead, like Myst, ico is beautiful, haunting, and highly emotional...

despite takeing the concept of minimalism into orbit in ico, it is astounding just how much it has to say beneath the underlying facade...

a word of warning though, ico is HARD... think about the puzzles on myst and keep in mind the difficulty of the puzzles in ico are just about on par with that of Myst... then add in the ability to die OFFTEN and and you've got your classic video game save die reload cycle...
