yeah... typical self centered classically Mystesque enigmatically vague yeesha...
for the one who holds all the answers she sure is reluctant to share...
"what you have failed to hear you do not understand or don't need to know..." yeah, easy for HER to say... she speaks in tongues and probably spends too much time in teledahn...!
anywho... sarcasm aside... my point in my initial posts goes hand in hand with your statement...
forget elves and goblins and trolls and +2 dwarven broadswords of orcish dismemberment... URU is REAL rollplaying!!!
hardly resembles roleplaying doesn't it...???
huzzah for Cyan having the guts to forgo cardboard cutouts who bark out orders to go and pick fifteen purple petunias then send you off to go pick twenty blue daffadylls until you wonder just who is so sick or so in love that this standing posterboard would need such a hefty bouqet without any degree of explination...
roleplaying is not about stats; stats are a throwback to pen and paper where a useful ruleset had to exist...
roleplaying is about being the character YOU and I want to be!! URU, I am I, He is He and She is She!!
Dr. Sunderland was more than an assemblage of ploygons with texture maped faces... she was a person, because there was a REAL person behind her!! she lived, she breathed, and Cyan always ensures that we buy into that illusion!!
Before URU came along Myst was all about the place, now we have URU and it is just as much about the people!!
Cyan goes to great lengths to ensure that so much believable detail is put into the place and its people and its culture and geography and history and legends and all that makes an evnironment REAL!!
and that's the lesson for today...
