so, as i posted before i'm going to be travelling across America, and i'm having some problems plotting my course. so i figured i'd ask the community! what are some good places to check out in these here United States? I'm obviously going to be checking out Niagara falls on my way to Penn to see my friend, Yosemite park in Texas, New Orleans, Yellowstone, etc etc. but i figured that you guys--being spread across the world-- should have some nice information on that part.

Yosemite is in California, but you could visit Big Bend National Park in Texas or any of the fine Texas state parks.

Well, depending on where in Penn., Watkins Glen (The state park and gorge.) probably wouldn't be far off of your track to Niagara, and is well worth visiting. Here is a link to my web-page for a hike I took through the gorge a few years ago. Watkins Glen
With relatives in Corning, I get back there from time to time.

And it's not just the park, but the countryside all around that part of New York is just great to travel through on the highways, through the hills and past the lakes.

P.S. If you want to visit the Canadian side of the Falls, or take the "short cut" through Canada between New York and Michigan, make sure you have your Passport with you. Wink

If you're going to New Orleans, LA, make a slight detour on the way and come to Shreveport, LA for a visit!

Redwood forests on the coast in Northern California. Get here before the state implodes from debt and they close it all down. Yes, the parks and the state. (Last one out turn off the lights.)

If you're going to Niagara, try to go across to the Canadian side, its awesome. Better still, go at night time when its lit up.

I'd actually go there AFTER they turn off the lights... nothing would make me more happy then a fallout-esque travel through a wasteland.

you can get an 'passport card' instead of a full passport - it's a little less expensive and is fine for crossing the borders to canada or mexico. i think it's also okay to use going to bermuda or the bahama's, too. it still takes about as long to get as a full passport (about 6 weeks), so, if you want to cross the border on your trip, you'd better get hopping and get the app done! you can expidite it, which costs a ton, and only moves up receipt a couple/few weeks, tho.

where in pa does your friend live? there is an absolute ton of things to do/places to visit here in pennsy! nature sites as well as historical. so, need to know where you'll be and where you're going after you leave before making suggestions! also, what's your starting point and ending point?

As long as we don't get a book or movie like "Into the Wild" I'm okay with this. Wouldn't want you eating those pea roots now!

If, by chance you get the opportunity to visit the Ohio Valley now designated into two regions I believe..the Whitewater and the Miami Valleys..There are several historical areas in both..and they have really good museums to visit..please take the time to visit both as there are very interesting things to see..

lol from all this legal work it sounds like its not even really worth the effort. i'll stick to the states.

your friend is near rickett's glen. and i highly recommend it!! the waterfalls trail is amazing as is the boulder field!! great for day trip or to camp overnight.

ehh, skip hersheys!! go to knoebel's instead!! that place is all-inclusive - rides, camping, swimming, golf.

and there's the pennsylvania grand canyon, too! that's really a must-see!

yeah, the passport thing is a pain in the tuckus, still, it's worth it as the canadian side of niagra has better views.
