Post Posted: Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:04 pm — Post subject: irealMyst possible on iPad?

I watched the Apple event today, and they showed off a game that Epic is working on which looks fantastic. And just to prove their capability, they released a tech demo called Epic Citadel:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/epics-spectacular-unreal-engine-3-tech-demo-free-at-itunes-app/

It's free, and universal, and it basically just allows you to wander around a mideavil walled town. The environment is large and gorgeous and, if anything, is more complex than the environments and graphics in realMyst (which isn't surprising, given how old realMyst is).

This makes me think realMyst could be adapted to the iPad.

Yeah I was thinking that, perhaps even Uru though realMyst is more likely. It also has more simpler interface than Uru.

Edit:http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/12/carmack-blows-minds-with-id-softwares-rage-running-on-iphone-a/

This definitely puts a good case, not only for realMyst but also for Uru and maybe Myst V

I was just coming here to post that same thing! Cyan, get yourselves this game and then show the world you can do better! I was watching the demo during the Apple event and I kept thinking, "Uru and Myst V have better graphics." Very Happy

That would be such an interesting idea for Cyan. I hope they do it, but I more hope they do wiiMYST and so on, since I have a Wii.

It would be awesome if they could license this engine to make new ages. You could buy an age at a time as they become available.

Ooh, I'd love to see Realmyst on there, and that sounds like a good idea for me (age expansion).

Can't you purchase things in-app now? That would provide some nice integration...

One thing to keep in mind is that just because John Carmack can code something to run on a certain piece of hardware doesn't mean normal programmers would be able to. Wink

And according to the FAQ for Epic Citadel:

http://www.epicgames.com/technology/epic-citadel/

Quote:

# Free tools. Epic’s Unreal Development Kit (UDK), available for free download at www.udk.com/download, ships with the same tools and technologies used to create “Epic Citadel.” Anyone can create games with UDK.

I see on Cyan's Twitter feed that they have seen Epic Citadel on their iPad(s). Here's hoping something cool comes out of it!

have been looking for a good Engine / SDK to get into creating games, and I think I may just recreate Myst Island in this as a Personal Project, and see what I can do on my own...

Although I KNOW it will be NOTHING compared to what Cyan can do. Smile
