It's still down there somewhere...

I know its been a while since this thread was last posted in but I just looked at this. 'Down there Somewhere' just makes me think Cyan's basement where there's apparently a lot of concept art and maybe perhaps, models of these places. Oh why did UL have to die (originally)Sad?

I AGREE 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000%

I'm one of those who do not want to make my own age etc. But I DO want to help Cyan restore the City
and make Rand's Grand Vision of URU (in whole, ALL OF IT) come true. Meaning making all those
old and concept screenshots become a reality! As well as helping to finish up all the unfinished city areas the DRC
has left posted on their site, all in differant stages of compleation.

The problem is how to connect a bunch of shards together so
one could walk the whole length of the city without having to go through a cut scene
(like when you enter Gareseen's 2nd building)
I know this will have to be used on some of the buildings etc. you enter, but for the most part,
the city would be free of them.
(ANSWER: I know Rand has already checked this out as a possibility, The way There.com -
now not around anymore Sad(( had a way to do just this! and it worked good.
I like to think this was one of the solutions Cyan had to make this HUGE city work,
by crossing over server boundries the same way.)

The thing is, it's not a matter of trust. It's a matter of emotionnal and artistical attachement. The Cyan peeps made this game; it's their game, and they have every right to not want to see anyone take over it and turn it into something else. As much as they might trust us.
We are the players; and we spend time, money, and energy in it, and we are attached to it too; but at the end of the day it is still Cyan's game; not ours. And they can totally say 'no' if they want to.

It's like a child. Say you have a little baby girl, and by the time she turns 16 she starts doing things you can't control. And you don't want that to happen: she's your little baby girl, she's all fragile and those stupid 16 year old kids they have no idea how to behave themselves.. But that's how it is; you can't really avoid that and lock her in her room forever.
With games the authors can avoid that, and keep their creation to themselves. Can't really blame them if they choose to.

I would totally love to see Cyan turn the full game open source (art and story included); and to a certain extent I think they are making a mistake by not doing it; but I'm certainly not going to blame them for not doing it.

I realise Aloys has a point but I just can't stop myself from drooling.

When ever things get moving (someday) it will be nice to know Cyan's got something of a plan as far as keeping a hand in URU goes.

You do have a point Aloys, IMO as much as fans can churn out some fantastic stuff, bringing models like these to life need a collection of people who are in constant contact physically, have no other commitments (most fan-ages are delayed because of other commitments) and the resources. I don't think we have that. Cyan does but can please tell what if anything about their financial situation> Has it improved ir has it got worse and have they been speaking about it?

I was aiming my post mainly at Cyan and a refresh of what already has taken place a while ago.
Rand and co. did make more than one trip over to There.com, I guessing that he was looking for a way to
get the 'Whole Cavern' Lake and the South Gate etc. into the game as one HUGE place.
There are a few major problems you have to tend with when making a 3D area this large.

I was not talking about doing any of this our selfs, and Helping Cyan is not Open Sorce either.
actualy I made up my mind and I want to see a rebirth of a way 'That DID WORK' before GT.
UU-MoulA This could be Cyan Open Sorce COS for short. The shard already up, as the new D'mala,
Everything is still to be handled through the Guilds and the Guilds to Cyan, Will have to buy a Kagi key again
(this is our Explorer badge IC, OOC its the Key to gain axcess to all the shards on the network, other wise
your stuck on D'mala the shard, the shard that is up and running right now. This will work! I know it will work!
Cause a Bahro told me it would! Razz Laughing

Still wondering why EAA posted this so mysteriously and suddenly...

Smile

Maybe just some wishful thinking on my part...

It is very myst-erious, indeed. I somehow doubt it's anything we'll ever see, though. Sad

Nope. You can see the Kerath's Arch in the distance...and at the opposite angle. That picture's from the other side of the bay/river/body of water.

That would be another shot of the location seen in the City Courtyard Visualation test.
