well... here i am having to pick and choose a forum category; spoilers? technical? or if all else fails, off topic? well... i'll pick spoilers section to releive anyone the burden of a forum lashing for dropping spoilers...
... i'll assume the mods are on top of things anyway...

so, i joined myst online sometime early to mid summer when it was all hot and humid here and definently wreaked of summer... i got to looking out my window the other day and it was all dark and cloudy and yuck it wreaked of winter...

... it's been months that i've been waiting for many things to happen, but particularly a delin snowfall!! i've come to understand that it snows in delin durring the northern winter months... but i don't know exactly how that works in the mechanics of the game...

cyan is no longer at the helm, i always have a hard time discerning which things are preprogrammed in to occur automatically under whatever conditions and what things cyan had intended to be present for to make happen...
... so i guess the long and short of it is... :

... can we expect to see snowfall in delin this year?
... another inquiry might be is can we expect to see previous holliday clothing items such as the santa hat or others when such times roll round...?

We did start out with a snowy delin so, I'm sure it won't be too long until it's back to that Smile

If I remember correctly, the snow doesn't really fall... it's just kinda on the ground.

hm..? was delin released during the winter months? if so snow would have been the original feature of the age...
... so the snow only appears on the ground then eh? bummer, it would be better if they had actual snowfall percipitation...
as in actually falling from the sky...

i think i remember someone mentioning to me that the idea for snowy delin was a fluke... that the snow effect was a graphical glitch cyan encountered during development; apparently they thought it looked so cool they decided to run with it.

If I recall correctly, Delin first appeared around January 19th, 2007 and was in its "Summer" settings. It didn't snow until February 20th or so. This lasted until early April. It went back to snow in September through to March 2008.

When MOULa launched, Delin had snow. I didn't actually take a note of when it reverted to summer (more Autumn/Fall I guess).

I don't believe the change is automated; I expect someone needs to "flip a switch" on the vault, so it may or may not happen, depending on whether the Vault Manager a) has time to do it and b) remembers that it needs doing.

According to this thread, it happened some time around the beginning of March. Whether it changed on the 2nd (date of that post) or not, I guess we just don't know.

/me thinks someone needs to put a good word in to mr. or mrs. vault manager to start converting some ones into zero's...

... tanshin... perhaps i'm just not understanding something (again?) but what does two posts on the kadish tree in relto have to do with whether or not it will snow in delin?

and if it started snowing in delin in september before, we're already hafl way through september now so if it doesn't happen soon it might not happen at all...

You certainly can watch the snow fall in Delin! (When snowy Delin is active.) Not exactly blizzard conditions, just a light snowfall. I have some fraps footage somewhere...

well, if so that's good to hear!! Very Happy ... unfortunately i keep hearing the converse from different people on almost all aspects of how this works... i suppose we'll have to see and find out?! Very Happy

a gentle snowfall would be awesomely charming i can imagine!! of course, if it works anything like real world snow... perhaps the snow in delin lingers a time after it has fallen?

I never see snow where I live so the snow in Delin had me rapt. It is so pretty. I always felt I needed to wear a coat doing door runs. Very Happy Gosh I hope it snows again soon.

When they say it's Springtime, I assumed that they meant Delin. What's annoying is the fact that I remember another thread somewhere that was far more specific, but I can't find it.

yes tanshin... correct me if i'm wrong, but i beleive i started that thread you may be referencing...
... this is more of a follow up thread; this one asks, what are the chances of it snowing in delin this year?

... the first was more me, as a newbie at the time... confirming reports that it snows in delin...

EDIT: i was mistaken... the thread i was thinking of was in regards to snow ages in general and i did not post the thread...

either way... i'm just wanting to know if we can expect to see snowfall in delin this year; and again so far it seems to be up to speculation...

Huh, for some reason I was under the assumption that some links were the snowy version, and others randomly the summer one. *shrugs*

That being said... snow and snowfall, someone add that to the wishlist of new Relto pages. >.>

yeah!! forget rain... i wanna snowy relto!!

well... just like some things may be in a bevin at certain times and not in another, i'd assume that if it were to snow in any delin at all it may have snow in one bevin's delin but not necessarily another at the same time...

I think all the Delin's are snowy at the same time but I seem to remember, the softly falling snowflakes get turned on and off. The real shame is the snow doesn't land on us: no matter how long you stand there you don't turn white.

But you're right. It would make for an awesome Relto page. Laughing

clarification is always good because i wasn't here for Live, so anything i know comes from those who were there...
... well, whatever has happened before really has no bearing if it doesn't snow at all in delin this year... it was mentioned on this thread that it used to start sometime in september; if so, the forecast does not look good so far...

come on Cyan!! we want our snowy Delins plz!! Very Happy

on a side note, hasn't there been alot of rain and storms up in washington state as of late? i hope that isn't affecting business at Cyan headquarters...

oh, also... is the ground cover of snow constant throughout the season with any actual snowfall comming and going?
... or is it that if it hasn't snowed for a time in delin the ground cover disappears?
