For anyone interested in writing Ages for the Guild of Writers site ( http://guildofwriters.org ) I've started a dedicated forum for it at my Dreamseed website:

http://forum.dreamseed.us/viewforum.php?f=31

Join up and let's write some Ages! We could maybe even write them together! Finished and approved Ages will be added to the actual library at http://guildofwriters.org and they'll even get their own CG animation for the linking panel!

Something to do while we wait for Uru Live!!!

Perhaps someone with a good CGI program could even make slides of the Ages sort of Myst style that could be put on the site?

It's possible that we may eventually do that. Right now, the site is in Phase 01, where we're just writing the Ages and viewing them within Rutehf's (a character in this website's storyline) library Age that the Terran Guild of Writers (us) have taken over. After we've tested the Ages with the Guild of Maintainers, we might remove the protective transparent plastic tiles over the linking panels. Since we are writing these Ages in English using Rutehf's maverick typewriter method, something that's never been done, we are being extremely cautious about allowing linking through these Books.

We're starting some interesting Ages and discussions about them!

interesting idea, several questions (sorry to be so down on it)

1. Do you have Cyans legal permission? You need this if your going to use their copyright.
2. Have you spoken with the other writing board Guild of Age Crafters and that?

It's a nice site, and if I can manage to finish some of my other projects I may even add a description or two. I personally think it could be a good primer project that might inspire new writers.

Anyway it looks to be a good way to get a age off the ground with all of the detail that will be needed.
Very Happy

Very professional looking site guys. The copyright question is a valid one though. Hope you managed to arrange this with Cyan. Anyway... very neat looking!!

The legal stuff is on his website.

Yep. We've had legal permission from President Tony Fryman since early 2006. We're also promoting Uru Live with it (your relto book in the Uru-style interface takes you to this website) to help Cyan out. It's a totally free, authorized but unofficial fan project (following Cyan's Third Party Work terms).

This site was created, because it's easier to write an Age than to actually build one in 3D, so we're taking a different fan approach than some of the other groups that seek to build actual Uru Ages in 3D. I think building actual ages for Uru Live is the ultimate endeavor, but the demands of accomplishing that are pretty substantial. My site created for the Myst fan community was designed to be a more accessible approach to more people and allows us to do exactly what the Art is based on: Write Ages!

It was also created, because I love the Myst series and the D'ni lore and have always wanted to write my own Ages ever since I first played the original Myst when it was released!

I'm also the same guy behind Aveara, another fan project from several years ago.

The Guild of Writers fan project will be much easier to grow, because production demands will be lower. http://guildofwriters.org

Hey Steve, if you'd like to do a feature about it on the Cavern Today, I'm more than willing to talk about it. You guys have a really nice podcast going. Very Happy

Whatever happened to Aveara, by the way?

It phased out over time. It was difficult to get production done by people contributing out of their free time. I've met some great people during that, some of which are still collaborating with me on projects still today.

With Guild of Writers, everything is pretty much done. A complete system is in place for adding probably around 75 Age Books (and can easily be expanded). I built the site, did all the art, and can probably do all of the linking panel CG with Bryce 6. So, because I won't require much help, I'll be able to just get stuff done myself.

The only thing that's left is the writing, and that's exactly what this site was built for... you! For all fans to come together and make Ages. And you don't have to be a tech wizard to do it. You just have to know how to write.

So it's now really up to the fans for how far they want to take it.

Okay, well, I started an Age. I like my concepts to be based off of D'ni words. (I get to choose a cool sounding name that way, too.) So my age is Gorahyan, a D'ni word for clock, or possibly a more general word for a time-keeping device.

Idea This is intriguing . . .
[Tink looks around for her trademark lavender/indigo forum posting font and color, and pouts when she doesn't spot it]

There is a new adventure a-brewing for the Tinkster . . .
[Tink's nearly invisible strawberry blond brows wrinkle slightly at being called 'Tinkster'.]

She's currently stuck inside a lunatic version of her T'nk System transport vehicle, which has finally 'stuck a landing' on what seems to be a second planet in said T'nk System worlds.
["Been bouncing for Ages in that maniac thing!" echoes through DahLahbore-atry of D'niet Cola and Arby's Market Fresh Chicken Salad Sammiches.]

A sibling of Ma'Kluft, the first world she traveled to via the T'nk System linking sphere . . .
[Tink still wonders which came first -- the Yeesha/bahro/Esher barrier housings for bahro stones, or her T'nk System linking spheres -- they are sooooo similar in appearance.]

and now I must begin moving her through the intricacies of the innards of that second planet, which is by no means as well-developed in my head as Ma'Kluft is.
[Tink skewers jDaisy with a pair of intense bluey greeny gray eyes, filled with a mindset of half anxiousness, half curiosity, half anticipation . . .
yeah, three halves -- this IS The Mental Mob after all.]

The venue may work out to be a nice way for me to stick a link to it.
[Tink smiles 'benignly', knowing she has recently registered DaDungeon on the forum.]
Very Happy Idea

*Gasp!*

I was sooo bummed when Aveara died! You guys had some fantastic stuff going there! I wish you could restart that! (Now that Uru Live is back on, I'm sure you could find it motivating enough to start again...I'd be willing to help, as a matter of fact.)
