Reteltee, we'd love to have you! I was actually hoping I could invite you to be a kind of special guest when we cover the "Familiar Voices" episode, since that was when all the Guild stuff happened, if I remember correctly. I'm sure people would love to hear about your experiences with the DRC Very Happy

BTW, sorry for any confusion--the first night is THIS COMING Tuesday, November 16th. I made that clear in some places but not here. Very sorry to anyone who showed up last Tuesday. I've updated the post now.

Sounds great! Keep me posted, and I'll try to be there on Tuesday.

Wow, fantastic turnout for a Tuesday afternoon/evening! I think we had between 20 and 30 people the whole time. Below is the log, as promised. I know a lot of people who wanted to come couldn't--is anyone in favor of a repeat on Saturday afternoon? I'm happy to do one if people want it. We would cover the same stuff as what you can read in this log.

The next "chapter" will be next Tuesday, the 23rd, at 16:00 as usual.

(11/16 18:07:22) Chat.log started...
(11/16 18:07:42) Carl Palmner: The purpose of Heritage Night is to remind us of our heritage--remind us what went before us, here in the cavern.
(11/16 18:08:16) Carl Palmner: I'll be hosting it tonight, and probably next time as well, but after that we may have different hosts each night, depending on people's

availability.
(11/16 18:08:40) Carl Palmner: We'll also take a quick "field trip" each Heritage Night, and at the end there will be a free Marker game prize for everyone who

attended.
(11/16 18:09:05) Carl Palmner: While the host (me, tonight) is telling the story, we'd like to ask you to keep questions and commentary to a minimum.
(11/16 18:09:33) Carl Palmner: That doesn't necessarily mean complete silence--you're not statues--but try to remember that the host has a lot of material to cover in

a short time.
(11/16 18:09:5Cool Carl Palmner: Very well, then, anyone have any questions before we get started?
(11/16 18:10:11) hhhenry: where are the restrooms?
(11/16 18:10:25) Carl Palmner: hhhenry--explorers have been asking that since 2003.
(11/16 18:10:29) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:10:32) Chraos starts to laugh
(11/16 18:10:33) whitehelm: Does Calum's weird symbol name mean anything in particular?
(11/16 18:10:37) Simon Templer wants to ask a question...
(11/16 18:10:3Cool Gahlen: Would it be simpler to give this presentation via voice chat?
(11/16 18:10:40) Szark: lol Nope all fine here
(11/16 18:10:44) Carl Palmner: Maybe the D'ni didn't need to relieve themselves.
(11/16 18:11:04) Simon Templer laughs
(11/16 18:11:06) |)||+||<|: the restrooms are next to the cafeteria, if I recall
(11/16 18:11:0Cool Carl Palmner: As for Calum's name, I believe it spells out "DTC" in symbols.
(11/16 18:11:13) Nith: Maybe they had a book for that....
(11/16 18:11:21) From |)||+||<|: that's correct
(11/16 18:11:25) Carl Palmner: Very well, then. On with the story Smile
(11/16 18:11:35) Simon Templer thinks taht's funny
(11/16 18:11:36) Carl Palmner: First, a little background.
(11/16 18:11:51) Carl Palmner: When we came to the cavern in 2006, we were not the first.
(11/16 18:12:15) Carl Palmner: There had been one attempt at a Restoration of D;ni before. The D'ni Restoration Council, or DRC, had originally consisted of 5

scholars:
(11/16 18:12:31) Carl Palmner: Richard Watson, Ikuro Kodama, Michael Engberg, Victor Laxman, and Marie Sutherland.
(11/16 18:12:55) Carl Palmner: Their first attempt at restoring the cavern had ended in failure, due mainly to lack of funds but also to unforeseen events.
(11/16 18:13:11) Carl Palmner: The most important of these was the arrival on the scene of Yeesha, daughter of Atrus.
(11/16 18:13:37) Carl Palmner: her mystical abilities to affect and alter the Ages wreaked havoc among the order-loving DRC, with whom she disagreed on many

fundamental ideas.
(11/16 18:14:15) Carl Palmner: The Journey she sent explorers on to free the enslaved Bahro resulted in explorer being pitted against explorer, and even many of the

DRC's employees--important people like Douglas Sharper and Phil Henderson--were converted to Yeesha's cause.
(11/16 18:14:33) Carl Palmner: The result of all this disunity was that the First Restoration failed.
(11/16 18:15:04) Carl Palmner: The DRC returned to the surface in defeat--all except their leader, Dr. Watson, who remained behind and, disillusioned and disappointed,

embarked on his own spiritual journey.
(11/16 18:15:29) Carl Palmner: The lat evidence of his acticity was a journal he left in the shaft leading to D'ni from the surface. You can still read it, in the

place now called Descent.
(11/16 18:15:50) Carl Palmner: Our story truly begins, then, during a time when there was no "official" activity in the cavern.
(11/16 18:16:19) Carl Palmner: I say "official" because many continued to hear Yeesha's Call and arrived surruptitiously to take her Journey on their own, each to free

one of the Bahro from slavery.
(11/16 18:16:23) From Skydiver Susa'n in Skydiver Susa'n's Relto: shorah buddies
(11/16 18:16:34) Carl Palmner: And it was during this time that I, myself, came to D'ni.
(11/16 18:16:57) Carl Palmner: Eventually, those who were still coming to the cavern found each other, and the DRC themselves returned as well--the 4 that remained,

anyway.
(11/16 18:17:07) Carl Palmner: There was no money, and so for a while, there was no Restoration.
(11/16 18:17:29) Carl Palmner: Explorers contented themselves with visiting areas already opened, and with speculating on unresolved mysteries.
(11/16 18:17:45) From Skydiver Susa'n in Skydiver Susa'n's Relto: I'm on my way to check out KenS's Cleft marker game ...
(11/16 18:17:5Cool Carl Palmner: the most popular questions revolved around the whereabouts of Yeesha, who seemed to have vanished, and Watson, who was nowhere to be

found.
(11/16 18:18:16) Carl Palmner: So much for background.
(11/16 18:18:2Cool Carl Palmner: We come now to the important day:
(11/16 18:18:37) Carl Palmner: December 19, 2006.
(11/16 18:18:43) Carl Palmner: Anyone know what happened that day?
(11/16 18:18:5Cool Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:19:04) Christo: cavern reopened
(11/16 18:19:06) Carl Palmner: It was the day of the Great Scream.
(11/16 18:19:33) Carl Palmner: You see, our story begins with a scream.
(11/16 18:20:00) Carl Palmner: A scream so loud and so powerful that it was heard in every Age, heard all over the cavern, heard everywhere that there were ears to

hear it.
(11/16 18:20:06) Carl Palmner: it was, of course, the scream of a Bahro.
(11/16 18:20:29) Carl Palmner: When that happened, every explorer with a Relto Book was immediately Linked there, to their home Reltos.
(11/16 18:20:39) Carl Palmner: We found in dismay that all of our Books had disappeared off our shelves.
(11/16 18:20:53) Carl Palmner: And when we sought the Books out again, the Ages were as if they had never been touched by us.
(11/16 18:21:0Cool Carl Palmner: The Journey, in effect, had been 'reset"--even our Yeesha Shirts were gone.
(11/16 18:21:13) From |)||+||<|: the scream also linked several others without relto's from the surface
(11/16 18:21:31) Carl Palmner: And the Scream had severe structural impact on D'ni.
(11/16 18:21:5Cool Carl Palmner: Worried that teh cavern might have become unstable, the DRC quickly quarantined off the dangerous areas, restricting us to only a small

part of AeGura, and the Bevins.
(11/16 18:22:15) Carl Palmner: To this day, no one knows what caused the Scream, or what its purpose was.
(11/16 18:22:17) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:22:47) Carl Palmner: Shortly after the Scream, the DRC announced that they had obtained new sources of funding and would work to restore the damage don.
(11/16 18:23:15) Carl Palmner: They also intended to expand. It was a NEW Restoration. New explorers who had never seen D'ni began to flock to our banner. For a

while, it was a time of nervous anticipation.

(11/16 18:23:51) Carl Palmner: Go ahead, mckay, no need for PM.

(11/16 18:24:06) Carl Palmner is a bit puzzled...
(11/16 18:24:17) Carl Palmner: Not sure I understand that last PM mckay
(11/16 18:25:00) Carl Palmner: At any rate--over time, explorers began to grow impatient with the slow rate that the cavern was being restored.
(11/16 18:25:05) From dr.rodney mckay: It sayd vhat we where vewing the game tap moul

(11/16 18:25:52) Carl Palmner: Some blamed Cate Alexander, the woman in charge of the DRC's new funding.

(11/16 18:26:15) Carl Palmner: Because she controlled the money, she had a position of power over the DRC that many explorers and even some DRC employees resented.

(11/16 18:26:40) Carl Palmner: Others blamed the DRC themselves--especially Michael Engberg, who was advocating a cautious approach.

(11/16 18:26:57) Dikra: hello all
(11/16 18:27:00) Carl Palmner: But for the most part, explorers fell to bickering amongst themselves out of boredom.
(11/16 18:27:13) Carl Palmner: The chief topic of our arguments during those days was the Bahro.
(11/16 18:27:37) Carl Palmner: You see, the computer game company Cyan had just released their final Myst game, and in it, the Bahro were depicted as being freed from

their slavery.
(11/16 18:27:52) rocketdog nods his head
(11/16 18:28:01) Carl Palmner: Many of us believed that the Journey was now symbolic only, that the Bahro were free.
(11/16 18:28:02) CrashOveride agrees
(11/16 18:28:10) Carl Palmner: But if so, we were at a loss to explain why we never saw any.
(11/16 18:28:37) Carl Palmner: And there were some--I'm a bit ashamed to say I was one of them--who took the Journey Pillars back, in protest to Yeesha, who seemed to

have abandoned us.
(11/16 18:28:46) Carl Palmner: You must understand, we knew so little of what was really going on.
(11/16 18:28:59) Carl Palmner ponders...
(11/16 18:29:21) Carl Palmner: try to picture the cavern as we saw it then.
(11/16 18:29:25) Carl Palmner: no Jalak, no Minkata.
(11/16 18:29:30) Carl Palmner: No Team Ages, no Pods.
(11/16 18:29:36) Carl Palmner: No Custom Marker Missions, even.
(11/16 18:29:44) Carl Palmner: Just AeGura, the Bevins, and the Journey Ages.
(11/16 18:29:59) Carl Palmner: I'm afraid that our boredom lead to petty disputes.
(11/16 18:30:2Cool Carl Palmner: if you want an example of how divided we'd become, just look at old Internet posts about what would later ben known as the "Liaison

Fiasco".
(11/16 18:30:32) Simon Templer says this really takes him back
(11/16 18:31:24) Carl Palmner: The DRC asked explorers to appoint 5 special delegates to act as go-betweens. The resulting jealousy, indecisiveness and cries of

"elitism" lead to the first-ever Liaison group resigning in dismay, never to be replaced.
(11/16 18:31:3Cool Carl Palmner: We were two divided and selfish to even appoint go-betweens.
(11/16 18:31:39) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:31:55) Szark shrugs
(11/16 18:32:01) Carl Palmner: And Yeesha--or perhaps the Bahro--must have known of our disunity, because of what happened next.
(11/16 18:32:05) CrashOveride says sad truth!
(11/16 18:32:27) From MeganEldred: Just got a text from Andrew, he says hi.
(11/16 18:32:30) Carl Palmner: This Bevin has an Eder Delin Book. I'd like to ask you all to follow me there now for a few minutes.
(11/16 18:33:09) Fil: find Sharper, you'll find your answers
(11/16 18:33:13) |)||+||<| watches a preverbial river of explorers flow across the bridge...
(11/16 18:33:32) Carl Palmner: We'll all Link to Delin now and coninue the story.

<Explorers all Linked to the Bevin's instance of Eder Delin>

(11/16 18:34:15) Carl Palmner: Nice duds, Crash Smile
(11/16 18:34:16) CrashOveride waves hello
(11/16 18:34:16) CrashOveride: hey
(11/16 18:34:26) Carl Palmner says hey
(11/16 18:34:2Cool Christo shivers
(11/16 18:34:45) Carl Palmner: Sorry about the cold--I forgot it was winter here.
(11/16 18:35:27) Szark: Yeah I should have worn some hair
(11/16 18:35:39) Carl Palmner starts to laugh
(11/16 18:35:54) Carl Palmner: There certainly are a lot of us Smile
(11/16 18:36:02) Carl Palmner: I have to say I'm very pleased with the turnout.
(11/16 18:36:06) Christo: anyone need a door run now...sheesh!
(11/16 18:36:11) Carl Palmner starts to laugh
(11/16 18:36:1Cool Szark nods his head
(11/16 18:36:29) From ural in ural's Relto: Crashed
(11/16 18:36:39) Carl Palmner: I can just picture some group of explorers showing up here to do a door run, and "Whoa! Look at this crowd!"
(11/16 18:36:40) Carl Palmner starts to laugh
(11/16 18:37:01) Carl Palmner: I think we're all here now, so I'll continue.
(11/16 18:37:1Cool Gahlen: There were 24 people in the Bevin.
(11/16 18:37:26) Carl Palmner: You stand in Eder Delin, the first new Age of the Second Restoration.
(11/16 18:37:34) Carl Palmner: Really? That many? I feel popular Wink
(11/16 18:37:41) Szark: lol
(11/16 18:37:57) Szark: I thought you were
(11/16 18:37:5Cool Carl Palmner: Responding to explorer discontent, the DRC hoped to allay it by releasing something totally new.
(11/16 18:38:20) Carl Palmner: They gave us this Age, which had never been available to the general public.
(11/16 18:38:33) Carl Palmner: But something happened that the DRC did not anticipate.
(11/16 18:38:47) Carl Palmner: Most, if not all of you, know about the Cloths and the Door here.
(11/16 18:38:55) Christo nods his head
(11/16 18:39:00) Josie nods her head
(11/16 18:39:03) whitehelm: yep
(11/16 18:39:13) Christo: a couple of other things too
(11/16 18:39:1Cool Carl Palmner: And in knowing about their existence, you know more than the DRC did when they released Delin--because until the day the Books were

placed in the Bevins, those Cloths, and that Door, were not there.
(11/16 18:39:20) dr.rodney mckay nods his head
(11/16 18:39:55) Carl Palmner: The DRC had no explanation for their existence, but it's no secret that the Cloths look very similar to Yeesha's Journey Cloths.
(11/16 18:40:11) Carl Palmner: I suppose she, or perhaps some benevolent Bahro, was watching us with disapproval.
(11/16 18:40:41) Carl Palmner: You see, this puzzle, unlike any that came before, REQUIRED teamwork and unity to be solved.
(11/16 18:40:46) Spirit Power: wow
(11/16 18:40:56) Christo is amazed!
(11/16 18:41:13) Carl Palmner: In order to get that Door open, explorers must set aside their differences and work together.
(11/16 18:41:17) CrashOveride says great point!
(11/16 18:41:22) Carl Palmner: Undoubtedly it was a lesson for us about the importance of unity.
(11/16 18:41:32) Simon Templer agrees
(11/16 18:41:44) Carl Palmner: We would need to stand together and stop fighting, if we were to survive the coming threat.
(11/16 18:41:4Cool Carl Palmner: And there WAS a threat.
(11/16 18:41:59) Carl Palmner: It was Nick White who first told us about it, if I remember correctly.
(11/16 18:42:01) Szark cowers
(11/16 18:42:06) Spirit Power: omg there are a lot of of people here
(11/16 18:42:31) Carl Palmner: Nick was an employee of the DRC, but unlike his bosses, he was extremely open and forthcoming with the explorers.
(11/16 18:42:33) Jack Flash (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/16 18:42:40) Carl Palmner: As a result, he was very popular among all of us.
(11/16 18:43:31) Carl Palmner: Nick used to pop in and visit us in our Bevins, and on one of these visits he told us about the DRC's plans for future Age releases.
(11/16 18:43:46) Carl Palmner: By that time, we had Eder Tsogahl as well, and the same mysterious Cloths had appeared there as well.
(11/16 18:44:05) Carl Palmner: Nick told us that not all was right in the next Age that the DRC would release.
(11/16 18:44:21) Carl Palmner: That Age, called Negilahn, had once been home to a vast, varied kingdom of wildlife.
(11/16 18:44:51) Carl Palmner: the D'ni had constructed observation pods there to study these creatures, and it was one of these pods that would be released to the

public.
(11/16 18:45:06) Carl Palmner: But something had happened on Negilahn.
(11/16 18:45:12) Carl Palmner: To the animals, specifically.
(11/16 18:45:26) Carl Palmner: Nick told us that their population had suddenly and dramatically decreased.
(11/16 18:45:3Cool Carl Palmner: No one in the DRC knew why--a predator? A disease? A person?
(11/16 18:45:51) Carl Palmner: Something had been killing them off.
(11/16 18:46:03) Jack Flash remembers
(11/16 18:46:15) Carl Palmner: But the DRC did not heed this threat. They released Negilahn anyway.
(11/16 18:46:17) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:46:50) Carl Palmner: And as Nick had told us, there was very little to see in the way of animals.
(11/16 18:47:05) Carl Palmner: Oh, there's an occasional Urwin, and sometimes a tiny, two-tailed monkey makes an appearance.
(11/16 18:47:11) Carl Palmner: But by and large, it's all plants.
(11/16 18:47:22) Carl Palmner: And as before, explorers argued.
(11/16 18:47:2Cool Carl Palmner: Argued over what was killing the animals.
(11/16 18:47:43) Carl Palmner: it was a predator. no, it was a disease. No, it was a Bahro. And on and on.
(11/16 18:47:52) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/16 18:48:10) Carl Palmner: Sometimes it takes a while for a lesson to sink in--even a lesson from a place as beautiful as this.
(11/16 18:48:16) dr.rodney mckay shrugs
(11/16 18:48:27) Carl Palmner: Beautiful as it is, though, it's also freezing. Why don't we return to the Bevin now?

<Explorers Linked back to Carl Palmner's Bevin.>

(11/16 18:49:0Cool Carl Palmner: We're back Smile
(11/16 18:49:11) |)||+||<|: cool
(11/16 18:49:33) Carl Palmner: We're back in the Community Room!
(11/16 18:49:33) Spirit Power (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/16 18:49:49) Carl Palmner: Anyone have any questions about the story so far, while we wait for everyone to Link in?
(11/16 18:49:51) |)||+||<|: welcome back to heritage night! Refreshments have been placed in the fountain for cooling, so if you get thirsty, just find your favorite

drink and open it up!
(11/16 18:50:35) Christo: would nick ever visit a bevin that was private?
(11/16 18:50:52) Carl Palmner: Christo--yes, there were a few times that he did that, but only when invited.
(11/16 18:50:57) hhhenry: nnnnext ttttime we ggggo to a ppplase as cold as thattt. Please lett us know we need warm clothes!
(11/16 18:51:0Cool Christo roars with laughter
(11/16 18:51:22) Christo: chill out henry...oh wait...you already did
(11/16 18:51:23) Carl Palmner: In fact, it was Nick's "private" encounters with explorers that would get him into trouble--but that's getting ahead of myself Very Happy
(11/16 18:51:29) Carl Palmner: Sorry henry
(11/16 18:51:3Cool Carl Palmner: I suppose I should have mentioned that in the forum post.
(11/16 18:51:39) beebee (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/16 18:51:51) Chraos sneezes
(11/16 18:51:53) Carl Palmner: Future field trips will mostly be in the cavern.
(11/16 18:52:04) Carl Palmner: And we'll be here for the rest of the event this evening.
(11/16 18:52:25) Carl Palmner: I'm looking at the time and realizing we'll probably go a bit longer than the hourI'd anticipated.
(11/16 18:52:3Cool Carl Palmner: I'll try to move a little faster.
(11/16 18:52:4Cool whitehelm: I have a quick question, right now most hoods have a tsogal book while a few have delin. Before tsogal was released did they all have a

delin book?
(11/16 18:52:52) Christo gets confortable
(11/16 18:53:10) Carl Palmner: Whitehelm--excellent question. The answer (I think) is "yes".
(11/16 18:53:11) dr.rodney mckay (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/16 18:53:15) Carl Palmner: Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
(11/16 18:53:33) CrashOveride thinks you are right
(11/16 18:53:43) Carl Palmner: If I remember correctly, when the DRC released Tsogahl they actually replaced Delin books in those Bevins.
(11/16 18:53:4Cool Simon Templer concurs
(11/16 18:54:00) Carl Palmner: All right, let's continued.

(11/16 18:54:04) Carl Palmner: *continue
(11/16 18:54:19) |)||+||<|: and then the DRC later had a chocie for returning the delin books
(11/16 18:54:22) Simon Templer says Delin books became rare
(11/16 18:54:29) |)||+||<|: Delin became the much favored choice
(11/16 18:54:36) Carl Palmner: In spite of explorer fears and words of caution from Engberg and others, Cate Alexander was pushing for the fast release of new Ages and

areas.
(11/16 18:54:51) Carl Palmner: And so it was only two weeks before the next Age was released--another Pod, this one called Dereno.
(11/16 18:55:25) Carl Palmner: The creatures of Dereno were far more populous than those of Negilahn.
(11/16 18:55:29) Carl Palmner: And they still are Smile
(11/16 18:55:41) Carl Palmner: Heh, I just remembered a personal experience.
(11/16 18:55:42) Jack Flash says a few made Dereno before other from glitch link
(11/16 18:55:52) Carl Palmner: There was a girl, back then--Michael Engberg's daughter.
(11/16 18:56:01) Carl Palmner: Her name was Willow, but we all called her "Wheely".
(11/16 18:56:10) Carl Palmner: Just a teenager.
(11/16 18:56:14) <sniffle> Szark is sad
(11/16 18:56:26) Carl Palmner: The day after Dereno came out, Wheely showed up in the cavern.
(11/16 18:56:2Cool CrashOveride cries
(11/16 18:56:3Cool Jack Flash is sorta bummed...
(11/16 18:56:47) Carl Palmner: We'd seen her plenty of times before--she was very popular among the explorers, who took her in as a kind of pseudo-family-member.
(11/16 18:57:00) <sniffle> Simon Templer is sad
(11/16 18:57:01) Carl Palmner: That day she wanted to see the Pods, which she'd never visited.
(11/16 18:57:17) Carl Palmner: So we took her to one of our instances of Negilahn, and then to Dereno.
(11/16 18:57:17) dr.rodney mckay: The memoril in the kolop pub
(11/16 18:57:37) Carl Palmner: She...she liked Negilahn best...
(11/16 18:57:40) Carl Palmner pauses
(11/16 18:57:44) Carl Palmner: Sorry, I need a moment...
(11/16 18:57:52) Error: Don't know how to '/bowhead'
(11/16 18:58:00) Carl Palmner: Ahem.
(11/16 18:58:11) Carl Palmner: Talking about Wheely is...difficult.
(11/16 18:58:20) Skydiver Susa'n hands Carl a tissue
(11/16 18:58:20) Christo: what happened?
(11/16 18:58:21) Carl Palmner: At any rate, back to the story at hand.
(11/16 18:58:24) dr.rodney mckay: Yes it is
(11/16 18:58:37) Carl Palmner: Christo--good question, but unfortunately we'll wait to answer it until next week.
(11/16 18:58:42) Carl Palmner: Tonight we're nearly done.
(11/16 18:58:42) Christo: k
(11/16 18:59:15) Carl Palmner: The decline of the Negilahn animal population had become a serious concern for the DRC, and it was decided tghat a small expedition

would venture outside the Pod to try to solve this mystery.
(11/16 18:59:23) Carl Palmner: The expedition consisted of only 3 people.
(11/16 18:59:31) Carl Palmner: One was the popular and charismatic Nick White.
(11/16 18:59:47) Carl Palmner: The second was Douglas Sharper, who had recently returned to D'ni from the surface.
(11/16 18:59:4Cool dr.rodney mckay: I kno the story it sent chills down my spine
(11/16 19:00:19) dr.rodney mckay: And it still dose
(11/16 19:00:23) Josie didn't know all this
(11/16 19:00:30) Carl Palmner: Sharper had worked for the DRC before, during the First Restoration, but his cannonball personality and affinity for Yeesha had got him

into trouble with them, and he had not been restored to his former position as head of the Teledahn division.
(11/16 19:00:36) Simon Templer was there when ll this happened
(11/16 19:00:59) Jack Flash was too
(11/16 19:01:03) Carl Palmner: He was a skilled hunter and wilderness explorer, so the DRC asked him to head the expedition.
(11/16 19:01:11) Carl Palmner: And the third member of the party was one of our own.
(11/16 19:01:40) Carl Palmner: He was an explorer who went by the handle "Rils", who had become well-known by founding a small society for the study of the Pod aniamals.
(11/16 19:01:55) Carl Palmner: I don't believe the D'ni Zoological Society still exists, but I may be wrong.
(11/16 19:02:15) Carl Palmner: I don't need to tell you how jealous we all were of Rils, accompanying the others outside the Negilahn Pod.
(11/16 19:02:25) Carl Palmner: As it turned out, we needn't have been,
(11/16 19:02:35) Carl Palmner: The expedition was short.
(11/16 19:02:56) Carl Palmner: They hadn't been gone logn when they came across a violently massacred carcass.
(11/16 19:03:15) Carl Palmner: The sight and stench were so foul that all three hurried Linked back, and both Nick and Rils were deeply affected.
(11/16 19:03:27) Carl Palmner: In fact, I believe Nick was quite sick afterwards.
(11/16 19:03:33) Carl Palmner: Rils was just traumatized.
(11/16 19:04:07) Carl Palmner: Sharper, who had more experience with this sort of thing, told us he was absolutely positive that what was killing the creatures was a predator, and that it was a NEW predator, introduced very recently into the environment.
(11/16 19:04:43) Carl Palmner: Moreover, he stated he was positive that the creature was extremely dangerous, and that it had wantonly slaughtered even the hugde, frightening predators native to Negilahn.
(11/16 19:04:49) Carl Palmner: Worst of all, it didn't even eat what it killed.
(11/16 19:04:5Cool Carl Palmner: It was killing, apparently, for the joy of it.
(11/16 19:05:01) Christo cringes
(11/16 19:05:09) Carl Palmner takes a deep breath.
(11/16 19:05:09) Skydiver Susa'n gasps
(11/16 19:05:25) Carl Palmner: Needless to say, the news of a demented killer running around the Age frightened many of us
(11/16 19:05:43) Carl Palmner: And I think the DRC had some angry words with Sharper over his willingness to share his information witfh the public.
(11/16 19:06:04) Carl Palmner: In spite of the danger, the DRC went ahead with the olanned release of 2 more Pods.
(11/16 19:06:1Cool CrashOveride says okay
(11/16 19:06:25) Carl Palmner: I say "in spite of the danger" because we soon learned that the Pods were nto separate Ages as we'd believed, but were in fact part of the same Age.
(11/16 19:06:54) Carl Palmner: Negilahn, Dereno, Payiferen, and Tetsonot--they're all part of one Age, which explorers have named Reziksehv, or "The Pod Age" in D'ni.
(11/16 19:07:30) Carl Palmner: And that meant that when we visited a Pod--ANY Pod--we were in danger of being noticed by the predator.
(11/16 19:07:45) Christo gets wide eyed
(11/16 19:07:50) Carl Palmner: And so the first six months of the Second Restoration ended ominously and with great anxiety.
(11/16 19:08:0Cool Carl Palmner: Despite the lessons of Eder Delin and Eder Tsogahl, explorers were still divided and bickered constantly over the Bahro and other things.
(11/16 19:08:1Cool Christo says DOH!
(11/16 19:08:26) whitehelm: Imagine going into Tetsonot while worrying about that
(11/16 19:08:34) Carl Palmner: Added to the tension now was the knowledge that some sort of dangerous beast was prowling around the newest Age, and that the DRC seemed heedless of the danger.
(11/16 19:08:41) Christo: rather not...
(11/16 19:08:57) Carl Palmner: Worst of all, where were those we would have looked to for guidance?
(11/16 19:09:09) Carl Palmner: Where was Watson, whose advice and wisdom had guided the last Restoration?
(11/16 19:09:22) Carl Palmner: Where was Yeesha, whose teachings had established the great Journey?
(11/16 19:09:27) Carl Palmner: Why had they left us all alone.
(11/16 19:09:27) Marcus di Marco (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/16 19:09:43) Carl Palmner: Something had to happen to break the tension in the cavern, and to unite us.
(11/16 19:10:10) Carl Palmner: That something DID happen, during the seven days known as "Scars Week"--but that is next week's chapter.
(11/16 19:10:22) Carl Palmner bows
(11/16 19:10:27) Simon Templer claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:27) whitehelm claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:2Cool CrashOveride claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:2Cool Thobaiec claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:29) Christo: to be continued...
(11/16 19:10:29) Jack Flash cheers
(11/16 19:10:29) Gahlen claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:30) Josie claps her hands
(11/16 19:10:30) Szark claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:31) Skydiver Susa'n claps her hands
(11/16 19:10:32) Chraos cheers
(11/16 19:10:33) Nith cheers
(11/16 19:10:36) hhhenry claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:37) Thobaiec claps his hands
(11/16 19:10:37) beebee claps hands
(11/16 19:10:37) Skydiver Susa'n bows
(11/16 19:10:46) tommyap: bravo
(11/16 19:10:52) Thobaiec thanks you very much!
(11/16 19:10:55) Szark: Very well done Carl
(11/16 19:10:55) Skydiver Susa'n: when is the next episode?
(11/16 19:10:59) Carl Palmner: Tonight we talked about 6 months. Next week we'll cover only 1 week, because so much happened during that week.
(11/16 19:11:17) Gahlen: Excellent. Thankyou very much.
(11/16 19:11:21) Musica cheers
(11/16 19:11:25) CrashOveride wants to ask a question...
(11/16 19:11:26) Musica claps her hands
(11/16 19:11:30) Carl Palmner: We'll learn what the predator was, we'll hear why explorers cry when Wheely is mentioned, and we'll learn what finally united the explorers.

I think you mean MOUL, or more specifically "Gametap's MOUL." Prologue is a name sometimes given to the very first iteration of Uru Live--the Ubisoft one. In storyline terms, that was the "First Restoration" that I referred to briefly at the beginning of my presentation, and neither I nor Wheely was present for it (I joined shortly after it ended, and Wheely was first introduced as a character during the "Until Uru" transitional experience).

I don't have any pics left over from those days, but you can find them on the Internet. Let me see...

...Ok I couldn't find any, but I did find something else. I just stumbled on this chatlog. It's from the experience I mentioned concerning Wheely in tonight's presentation--a few of us visiting the Pods with her. Ah, the memories...

Poor Wheely. I think her death cast a long shadow in the Cavern. And it was merely a hint of the cataclysm to come. Those were the days...

Thanks Carl for a great hour (or so). I loved the ICness. How I wish others would embrace the ICness for a while.
Count me in as a regular.

Oh and I learnt some new things.....just what the doctor ordered.

Our second Heritage Night will be this comingt Tuesday, the 23rd, same time as before--4pm KI time. Hopefully we'll have a good turnout like we did last time.

This time we'll tell the story of MOUL episode 1, "Scars", which follows immediately after the portion of the story we told last time. I will be hosting again.

Also, if anyone is interested in hosting future Heritage Nights, please contact me in whatever way you want--forum PM, this thread, KImail, Uru PM are all good options--to let me know. Currently no one has signed up to host future nights. I'm happy to do them all if no one else wants to but I don't want to hog the opportunity.

Below is a chatlog of Heritage Night 2, the topic of which was "Scars Week". In spite of my remark at the beginning, by the end I'd say we had just as many people as last time.

(11/23 18:00:29) Nith: Shorah
(11/23 18:00:32) Jazz: Shorah Carl

(11/23 18:01:34) Carl Palmner: Last week at one point we had nearly 30. Not sure what we started at, though.

(11/23 18:01:42) [ Auto Shout Enabled ]

(11/23 18:02:05) Cal: *shrug*
(11/23 18:02:05) Carl Palmner: First, I want to thank Cal for acting as usher again.
(11/23 18:02:14) Jazz cheers
(11/23 18:02:25) Carl Palmner: Cal was using a different KI last time, but as you can see, it's the same person standing on the cone out there.
(11/23 18:02:33) Cal: yuppers ^_^;
(11/23 18:02:4Cool Carl Palmner: I'm trying to get him to host one of these nights--we'll see if we can make that happen.
(11/23 18:02:54) Carl Palmner: For tonight, you are stuck with me again.
(11/23 18:03:01) Szark: oh I thought it was his twin
(11/23 18:03:14) Carl Palmner: I also wanted to point out that we have a minor celebrity with us tonight.
(11/23 18:03:24) Carl Palmner: (She's going to kill me for embarrassing her)
(11/23 18:03:4Cool Carl Palmner: Some of you may have read an entry in Sharper's Journal regarding an explorer of the Second Restoration named "Jazz."
(11/23 18:03:54) Szark: what we have a doctor in the house
(11/23 18:04:01) Jazz: Agggggh. *cringe*
(11/23 18:04:06) Jazz plots revenge
(11/23 18:04:11) Carl Palmner: That's the same "Jazz" who's with us tonight! Everyoe give her a warm round of applause!
(11/23 18:04:15) Carl Palmner claps his hands
(11/23 18:04:19) GamerExtron claps his hands
(11/23 18:04:21) Josie claps her hands
(11/23 18:04:21) Szark claps his hands

(11/23 18:04:27) Jutt claps his hands
(11/23 18:04:30) Jazz cringes with embarrassment
(11/23 18:04:39) Carl Palmner grins
(11/23 18:04:56) Szark: can I have your autograph please Jazz
(11/23 18:05:07) Jazz: No pen, Szark
(11/23 18:05:13) Szark: lol
(11/23 18:05:25) Szark: darn I was going to sell it on E-bay
(11/23 18:05:31) Jazz: Worthless anyway
(11/23 18:05:45) Carl Palmner: Next announcement: this Bevin is recruiting! If you're interested in becoming a member, please let me know and we'll arrange it after the event is over.
(11/23 18:05:46) Szark: not to some it isn't
(11/23 18:06:30) Carl Palmner: Finally, Heritage Night is looking for willing and able explorers to host some nights, and to act as usher and herald on other nights.
(11/23 18:06:30) tommyap (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:06:56) Carl Palmner: If anyone who was present during the Second Restoration is interested in hosting one of these nights, let me know and we'll see if we can work something out.
(11/23 18:07:19) Carl Palmner: And I don't want to make Cal act as usher/herald EVERY Tuesday, so if someone is willing to lighten that burden for him sometime, that would be great.
(11/23 18:07:31) Carl Palmner: For those who don't know:
(11/23 18:08:00) Daeris: sit
(11/23 18:08:01) Carl Palmner: heritage Night is an opportunity for explorers who did not get to be present during the last Restoration to hear the story of what happened during that time.
(11/23 18:08:24) Carl Palmner: Each Heritage Night, the host tells part of the story, we take a brief field trip, and a Marker game is awarded to all participants at the end.
(11/23 18:08:39) Szark cheers
(11/23 18:08:56) Carl Palmner: We'd like to ask that while the host is narrating the story, you please keep all questions and comments to a minimum.
(11/23 18:09:14) Szark: i'll try
(11/23 18:09:19) Carl Palmner: That doesn't necessarily mean you have to be completely silent, but please remember that the host has a lot of ground to cover.
(11/23 18:09:33) Jazz wonders if she can manage it
(11/23 18:09:42) Szark: lol
(11/23 18:09:50) Carl Palmner: Very well.
(11/23 18:09:51) Deirdre: sit
(11/23 18:10:07) Carl Palmner: First, a quick recap.
(11/23 18:10:32) Carl Palmner: As we told you last week, feelings had become tense in the cavern by the time the week known as "Scars Week" occurred.
(11/23 18:11:03) Carl Palmner: The DRC had opened all of AeGura and the Bevins, and released Eder Delin, Eder Tsogahl, and the 4 pods of Reziksehv to explorers.
(11/23 18:11:42) Carl Palmner: We had recently been warned that a dangerous and violent predator was stalking the wildlife near Negilahn.
(11/23 18:11:59) Carl Palmner: But we didn't know what kind of creature it was, or even what it looked like.
(11/23 18:12:07) Szark cowers
(11/23 18:12:25) Carl Palmner: And in spite of Yeesha's lessons in Delin and Tsogahl, we were not united. We argued constantly, especially over the Bahro.
(11/23 18:12:42) Carl Palmner: And we missed the leadership of Watson and Yeesha, both of whom seemed to have vanished.
(11/23 18:12:54) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 18:13:15) Carl Palmner: We did not know at the time how important "Scars Week" would be,
(11/23 18:13:26) Carl Palmner: I suppose no one ever knows how important an event will be before it occurs.
(11/23 18:13:47) Carl Palmner: That week is known as "Scars Week" because of the physical and emotional scars that characterized it.
(11/23 18:13:56) Carl Palmner: The first scar was a physical one.
(11/23 18:14:05) Carl Palmner: The first scar...was a crack.
(11/23 18:14:14) Carl Palmner: Day One of "Scars Week":
(11/23 18:14:44) Carl Palmner: The week began normally. Victor Laxman, one of the 4 remaining DRC, was making the rounds from Bevin to Bevin.
(11/23 18:15:07) Carl Palmner: He was talking with explorers about the next Age the DRC planned to release, which he said was almost ready.
(11/23 18:15:32) Carl Palmner: Suddenly, while talking with explorers, he received a message on his KI.
(11/23 18:15:49) PrimeRib yawns
(11/23 18:16:02) Carl Palmner: After checking it, he excused himself, saying that there had been some seismic activity in AeGura and that he needed to check it out.
(11/23 18:16:23) Carl Palmner: We didn't think it could be anything important.
(11/23 18:16:37) Carl Palmner: After all, the Great Scream had destabilized everything, months before.
(11/23 18:17:05) Carl Palmner: We forgot about Laxman and spent our time gossiping about Nick White, who'd just been fired from the DRC.
(11/23 18:17:1Cool Jazz looks at the ceiling and whistles quietly
(11/23 18:17:30) Carl Palmner: I won't go into too many details about why he'd been fired, other than to say that...well, that Nick was something of a "ladies' man."
(11/23 18:17:40) Carl Palmner: And I mean "ladies" in the plural.
(11/23 18:17:50) Carl Palmner: At any rate, he was still here, but as one of us, not as a DRC employee.
(11/23 18:18:13) Carl Palmner: And we were all very concerned for him when he told us that he and Sharper were planning another expedition to Negilahn.
(11/23 18:18:22) Carl Palmner: Sharper, Nick said, planned to hunt the predator.
(11/23 18:18:24) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 18:18:30) Carl Palmner: Ballsy fellow, Sharper.
(11/23 18:19:01) Szark is a bit upset...
(11/23 18:19:02) Carl Palmner: Later that day, a KI-mail was sent out to all of us informing us that the "seismic activity" Laxman had referred to had resulted in a large crack appearing in the Kahlo Pub of AeGura.
(11/23 18:19:20) Carl Palmner: As you can imagine, this immediately attracted explorers to that area of the cavern.
(11/23 18:19:45) Carl Palmner: Those explorers reported that the Bahro were screaming louder and more frequently in AeGura, but that didn't stop people from checking it out.
(11/23 18:20:15) Carl Palmner: Day 1 ended as a seemingly normal day.
(11/23 18:20:17) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 18:20:29) Carl Palmner: Day Two.
(11/23 18:20:4Cool Carl Palmner: Explorers were still crowded around the crack when Wheely Engberg showed up the next day in AeGura, with a friend.
(11/23 18:21:01) Carl Palmner: They had already visited some of the Bevins, collecting Markers.
(11/23 18:21:1Cool Carl Palmner: Wheely's friend, Rosette, was visiting D'ni for the first time and Wheely wanted to show her around.
(11/23 18:21:44) Carl Palmner: The second scar was a false scar, a scar imagined to distract others from the real threat.
(11/23 18:22:10) Carl Palmner: Wheely noticed the crack and wanted to explore that area, but explorers prevented her. Her father had been by recently to ask people to stay out of the area.
(11/23 18:22:31) Carl Palmner: And while the explorers were heedless of this advice for themselves, no one wanted Engberg's daughter endangered.
(11/23 18:22:39) Carl Palmner: Unfortunately Wheely was too curious for her own good.
(11/23 18:23:11) Carl Palmner: She and Rosette announced over the KI that they had found a SECOND crack, at the library. When explorers rushed to that location, not only was there no such crack, but Wheely and Rosette had disappeared.
(11/23 18:23:1Cool Carl Palmner: Even their KI's were offline.
(11/23 18:23:36) Carl Palmner: And while some saw this as merely a teenage prank, there were others who worried about the sudden disappearances.
(11/23 18:23:47) Carl Palmner: As it turned out, Wheely probably saved several of our lives that day.
(11/23 18:24:32) Carl Palmner: When Laxman visited us again in a Bevin, explorers were less interested in the activation of the KI-light machine that he was announcing than they were in the whereabouts of Wheely and Rosette.
(11/23 18:25:02) Carl Palmner: A good friend of mine and I were the first to speak up, asking Laxman if he knew what had happened to Wheely.
(11/23 18:25:22) Carl Palmner: Laxman shrugged it off, said he was sure she was fine--although we knew her, and didn't think this was typical of her nature.
(11/23 18:25:26) Carl Palmner: As it turned out, we were right.
(11/23 18:25:52) Carl Palmner: I urged Laxman to at least mention the matter to ENgberg, and shortly afterwards, both were seen Linking into AeGura.
(11/23 18:26:22) Carl Palmner: They immediately went across the city, calling Wheely's name.
(11/23 18:26:30) Carl Palmner: Explorers realized something was wrong, and joined in the search.
(11/23 18:26:39) Carl Palmner needs a moment to breathe!
(11/23 18:26:55) Carl Palmner: That was one of the most frantic days of my life.
(11/23 18:27:04) Carl Palmner: We all became a bit hysterical.
(11/23 18:27:26) Carl Palmner: I remember screaming at Laxman to open up the barricaded part of the library, thinking that perhaps Wheely could have gone down there before disappearing.
(11/23 18:27:3Cool Carl Palmner: As I look back i can see I was being irrational, but then, we all were.
(11/23 18:27:46) Carl Palmner: You see we weren't the only ones in the city that day.
(11/23 18:28:0Cool Carl Palmner: As we searched, we saw several Bahro--SAW them, not just heard them--standing on rooftops, screaming, Linking in and out.
(11/23 18:28:14) Carl Palmner: It was rather terrifying.
(11/23 18:28:35) Szark cringes
(11/23 18:28:3Cool Carl Palmner: At last, we were ordered out of AeGura, and some of us had to be phsyically forced to go.
(11/23 18:28:4Cool Cal: seaking of bahro... *notes the scream just now*
(11/23 18:29:06) Carl Palmner: It was announced some time later that Laxman had been able to locate Wheely's KI signal and turn her KI on remotely.
(11/23 18:29:23) Carl Palmner: It was coming from beneath the Kahlo Pub crack.
(11/23 18:29:57) Carl Palmner: We'll go to the Kahlo Pub now, where I think you'll be able to get a better idea of what the next couple of days were like, since the events all revolved around that part of the cavern.
(11/23 18:30:25) Carl Palmner: If you don't know how to find the Pub, just Link to the Ferry Terminal and head up the big stairs. About halfway up you should see a crowd--that'll be us Smile
(11/23 18:30:25) From Cal: should I stay, or come?
(11/23 18:30:30) To Cal: Up to you
(11/23 18:30:37) To Cal: you can come if you want
(11/23 18:30:37) Jazz: lol
(11/23 18:30:49) Cal: the Kahlo pub, actually, is accessable through a giant hole in the side of a building,
(11/23 18:31:02) PrimeRib waves hello
(11/23 18:31:05) Carl Palmner: We'll be meeting just outide the pub itseld
(11/23 18:31:0Cool Carl Palmner: On the stiars
(11/23 18:31:10) Cal: which is why thhe whole existance of a crack at first wasn't so startling.
(11/23 18:31:2Cool Cal: we should've known...
(11/23 18:31:47) From Cal in Carl Palmner's Bevin: Yeah, I'll come too
(11/23 18:33:17) Carl Palmner: Just outside the Pub, please, those who are participating in Heritage Night.
(11/23 18:33:27) Cal: Oi, lag.... -_-;
(11/23 18:33:32) Carl Palmner: Up near the barriers outsde, where I'm standing
(11/23 18:33:33) ururph (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:34:40) Carl Palmner: Polgara, great name. I love those books.
(11/23 18:34:49) Cal: everyone make it okay?
(11/23 18:35:01) Cal: nobody got eaten by a grue mid link, did they?
(11/23 18:35:02) Jazz: Speak now if you didn't
(11/23 18:35:09) tommyap: no sunset crashed
(11/23 18:35:09) Cal: that happened a lot back then... ^_^;
(11/23 18:35:23) Cal: *sigh* Ah, memories...
(11/23 18:35:33) Szark: grue LOL
(11/23 18:35:36) Carl Palmner: Ok folks--out of respect for those who are here just to explore and don't want to participate in our event, I'll turn off the autshout feature of my KI
(11/23 18:35:46) Cal: done as well...
(11/23 18:35:4Cool Carl Palmner: So if you are participating, make sure you are close enough to hear me.
(11/23 18:36:00) Szark: pardon
(11/23 18:36:03) Carl Palmner: Let me know if people are having trouble and I will turn it back on if necessary.
(11/23 18:36:0Cool [ Auto Shout Disabled ]
(11/23 18:36:13) Carl Palmner sounds quieter now.
(11/23 18:36:17) Carl Palmner: There we go.
(11/23 18:36:22) Carl Palmner: Everyone hearing me ok?
(11/23 18:36:30) Szark: yesthx
(11/23 18:36:30) Daeris nods his head
(11/23 18:36:33) Carl Palmner nods his head
(11/23 18:36:35) Alphonse Godot nods his head
(11/23 18:36:40) Javin2: nono
(11/23 18:36:41) Cal: heh, you know, this kinda reminds me of back then, with everyone out here like this...
(11/23 18:36:49) Carl Palmner: In the interest of time I'm going to only touch on the really important things from here on out.
(11/23 18:36:52) Jazz nods her head
(11/23 18:37:03) KenS: where you at
(11/23 18:37:25) Carl Palmner: The spot you are standing on, if you're here near the Pub, is the spot some other explorer stood on when the city was reopened.
(11/23 18:37:51) Carl Palmner: We all knew Wheely was somewhere below the Pub, but the DRC erected barriers to keep us out.
(11/23 18:37:55) Carl Palmner: Day Three.
(11/23 18:38:14) Carl Palmner: Soon after the cavern reopened, Wheely finally contacted the DRC on her KI.
(11/23 18:38:14) ururph (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:38:3Cool Carl Palmner: As it turned out, she and Rosette had invented the library crack in order to get explorers to leave this spot, so that they could come see it.
(11/23 18:38:56) Carl Palmner: At precidely that moment, as fate or Yahvo would have it, there had been a cave-in.
(11/23 18:39:03) Cal puts a hand over his mouth
(11/23 18:39:32) Carl Palmner: Wheely and Rosette fell down into the chambers beneath the Pub.
(11/23 18:39:52) Carl Palmner: Rosette, it seems, was killed instantly--or at least, when Wheely awoke, her friend was dead.
(11/23 18:40:01) Carl Palmner: And Wheely herself was seriously injured.
(11/23 18:40:06) From Leighana: if you're talking, i can't hear
(11/23 18:40:0Cool Szark is sorta bummed...
(11/23 18:40:15) Jazz has gone deaf
(11/23 18:40:17) From Josie: are you talking Carl, cause I can't read anything
(11/23 18:40:17) sha'nie chock
(11/23 18:40:19) To Leighana: Come closer
(11/23 18:40:36) [ Auto Shout Enabled ]
(11/23 18:40:43) Carl Palmner: Looks like I'll have to use autoshout after all.
(11/23 18:40:59) Josie: yes please
(11/23 18:41:05) Carl Palmner: As I was saying, on Day Three, Wheely managed to contact the DRC from her KI.
(11/23 18:41:10) beebee: that's better
(11/23 18:41:35) Carl Palmner: She and Rosette had gone to the Pub while explorers were distracted, and at that moment, the ground below them crumbled.
(11/23 18:41:41) Carl Palmner: They both fell into the chambers below.
(11/23 18:42:01) Carl Palmner: Wheely told us, via the KI, that her friend was dead and Wheely herself was injured.
(11/23 18:42:09) Carl Palmner: Worse yet, her Relto Book seemed to have stoped functioning.
(11/23 18:42:12) Cal: there were bahro glyphs on the walls, didn't she say?
(11/23 18:42:20) Carl Palmner: I'm getting there Smile
(11/23 18:42:25) Cal: people seem to think those were what were blocking relto...
(11/23 18:42:32) Cal: oh, right.. ^_^;
(11/23 18:42:37) Carl Palmner: She was trapped, alone with a corpse, tired and injured and afraid.
(11/23 18:42:43) <sniffle> Jazz is sad
(11/23 18:43:00) Carl Palmner: Fortunately, the DRC had already pinpointed her location and was working to dig through the rubble to get her out.
(11/23 18:43:21) Carl Palmner: I shall never forget, as long as I live, the tender encouragements of a father to his daughter.
(11/23 18:43:39) Carl Palmner bows his head
(11/23 18:43:41) Szark: must have cut deep
(11/23 18:43:42) Carl Palmner: Ahem.
(11/23 18:43:59) Carl Palmner: Wheely lapsed in and out of consciousness throughout that day.
(11/23 18:44:00) Sane (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:44:23) Carl Palmner: At first she tried to tell us a little about the room she was in--as Cal said, there were strange symbols that looked similar to the Bahroglyphs.
(11/23 18:45:0Cool Carl Palmner: But more importantly, Wheely announced to us that she had suddenly become aware that she was NOT alone.
(11/23 18:45:16) Carl Palmner: A Bahro was in the chamber with her, watching her.
(11/23 18:45:54) Carl Palmner: It was the closest any of us had ever been to a Bahro, but most of us believed that at the very least, the creature would not have any reason to harm her.
(11/23 18:46:06) Carl Palmner: Even Wheely's father said he was certain the Bahro only wanted to help.
(11/23 18:46:13) Carl Palmner: And at first, it seemed to.
(11/23 18:46:14) Skydiver sut (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:46:29) Cal grimaces...
(11/23 18:46:34) Carl Palmner: Wheely grew terribly thirsty, but awoke with her thirst abated as if by magic,
(11/23 18:46:42) skylar3501: Easy to find peeps
(11/23 18:46:4Cool Carl Palmner: and during that time, her KI registered her as being in various other Ages
(11/23 18:47:05) Carl Palmner: We all assumed the Bahro was helping her--but if so, why did it return her to the chamber?
(11/23 18:47:07) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 18:47:20) Carl Palmner: Day Four.
(11/23 18:47:29) Carl Palmner: By this time, Nick White had returned from his trip with Sharper.
(11/23 18:47:34) Carl Palmner: They had not caught the predator.
(11/23 18:47:47) Cal: (i remember that the coordinate position of the KI hadn't moved, even though the age location had)
(11/23 18:47:4Cool Carl Palmner: Nick had heard the news of Wheely and had returned to help.
(11/23 18:48:2Cool Carl Palmner: Sharper, he said, was still hiding in a hunter's blind in Negilahn, waiting for the predator to go after the bait he had set.
(11/23 18:48:51) Carl Palmner: And then it did, and Sharper was in pursuit. From then on, it was radio silence for him.
(11/23 18:48:51) sunset (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:48:52) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:48:57) skylar3501: Found a group
(11/23 18:49:01) Cal: the poor urwin...
(11/23 18:49:1Cool skylar3501: I meant the group
(11/23 18:49:29) skylar3501: Jump
(11/23 18:49:35) Carl Palmner: Meanwhile, the DRC had managed to dig through the ground to the floor of a building, but they still had one more floor to go.
(11/23 18:49:36) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:49:4Cool Carl Palmner: And there was something odd about that building--something that's never been explained.
(11/23 18:49:49) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:50:12) Carl Palmner: According to Nick White, he and Sharper had seen an odd symbol outside the Pod in Negilahn--the symbol of a crooked line, with circles on either side.
(11/23 18:50:13) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:50:23) Carl Palmner: That same symbol, according to Nick, was in the building the DRC had reached.
(11/23 18:50:23) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:50:32) Cal nods
(11/23 18:50:52) Carl Palmner: As the dar progressed, the DRC kept digging and the explorers kept encouraging.
(11/23 18:50:53) kirla (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:51:23) Carl Palmner: All across AeGura and the Bevins, explorers were sending messages of hope, and after the abatement of Wheely's thirst, we were all so grateful that she at least had a Bahro for company.
(11/23 18:51:27) <sniffle> Carl Palmner is sad
(11/23 18:51:36) Carl Palmner: I'm sorry, this is difficult for me.
(11/23 18:51:52) Jazz pats Carl on the shoulder
(11/23 18:51:54) Cal: people were also relaying the events in Ae'gura to those in other ages, as well,
(11/23 18:51:56) Carl Palmner: When the DRC was mere minutes away, Wheely reported that the Bahro that was with her became agitated.
(11/23 18:52:05) Cal: I was one of those listening in... *sniffs*
(11/23 18:52:11) Szark: your'e amoug friends let it out Carl
(11/23 18:52:24) Carl Palmner: She said that it had begun scrambling about the ceiling and floors, making angry sounds.
(11/23 18:52:25) Skydiver sut (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:52:3Cool Cal taps on the railing thrice...
(11/23 18:52:39) Carl Palmner: Wheely said that she was frightened, and that the Bahro kept repeating the word "Noloben".
(11/23 18:52:59) Carl Palmner: Noloben--which, if we are to believe Cyan, was the Age where many Bahro were tortured by a depraved D'ni man.
(11/23 18:53:19) Carl Palmner: Then Wheely screamed, and was silent.
(11/23 18:53:26) Carl Palmner shudders
(11/23 18:53:26) Jazz gasps
(11/23 18:53:29) Cal looks away
(11/23 18:53:3Cool Carl Palmner: The DRC reached her--what was left of her.
(11/23 18:53:44) Carl Palmner: The Bahro was gone. The symbols were gone.
(11/23 18:53:49) Carl Palmner: Wheely's body was still there.
(11/23 18:54:03) Carl Palmner: According to reports from Sutherland and Sharper, it was mangled, defiled, torn to pieces.
(11/23 18:54:11) Cal closes his eyes
(11/23 18:54:17) Carl Palmner: And unfortunately, one of the first to seeit was Michael Engberg himself.
(11/23 18:54:25) Carl Palmner sighs.
(11/23 18:54:29) Chraos: ....
(11/23 18:54:39) Cal: a res-eng was the first, I think,
(11/23 18:54:40) Carl Palmner: You must understand that we had been very foolish in how we'd viewed the Bahro.
(11/23 18:54:46) Cal: "Get me out of here" he said.
(11/23 18:55:15) Carl Palmner: Nearly everyone was divided into two camps--one that believed that the Bahro had killed her, and one thaht believed it was innocent and had tried to help.
(11/23 18:55:16) DennisJ (I'm on the surface, be back in a minute):
(11/23 18:55:42) Carl Palmner: I don't think it occurred to anyone until after the fact that there could have been more than one Bahro in that room with her, at different times.
(11/23 18:55:53) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 18:55:56) Cal rubs his head
(11/23 18:56:09) Szark is a bit puzzled...
(11/23 18:56:15) Carl Palmner: The Memorial you see inside the Pub was created much later, in remembrance of Wheely's sacrifice.
(11/23 18:56:26) Cal: Her name and Rose's are on it,
(11/23 18:56:33) Cal: you'll notice...
(11/23 18:56:35) Carl Palmner: We'll return to my Bevin now for the remainder of the story. Feel free to pay your respects at the Memorial beore you go.
(11/23 18:56:35) Cal sniffs...
(11/23 18:56:52) Carl Palmner kneels down...
(11/23 18:56:53)
(11/23 18:56:57) Cal bows
(11/23 18:58:55) Cal smiles as he guides people towards the stairs once more
(11/23 18:58:56) Chraos: sigh..
(11/23 18:59:24) Cal: it was a hard time for all of us, back then...
(11/23 18:59:39) Cal: i was in teledahn, listening in to a relayer channel,
(11/23 18:59:43) Cal: when it all happened
(11/23 18:59:45) Jazz: (But heck, it was exciting!)
(11/23 18:59:59) Cal: I... It was a lot...
(11/23 19:00:15) Cal: really a lot...
(11/23 19:00:45) Cal: we couldn't have know, though,
(11/23 19:00:50) Carl Palmner nods his head
(11/23 19:00:55) Cal: there wasn't any way to know, I suspect...
(11/23 19:00:57) hhhenry: I remember the gatherings we used to have in that pub befoer the second exploration
(11/23 19:01:0Cool Carl Palmner: Day Five.
(11/23 19:01:3Cool Carl Palmner: The third scar was an emotional one--the scar we all felt for Wheely, and for Michael, after her death.
(11/23 19:01:55) Carl Palmner: And in the end, THAT was what united the explorers--not the Team Ages, but the death of a teenage girl.
(11/23 19:01:57) [ Auto Shout Disabled ]
(11/23 19:01:59) [ Auto Shout Enabled ]
(11/23 19:02:17) Carl Palmner: The next day, all across the cavern, explorers wore black in mourning.
(11/23 19:02:25) Carl Palmner: And though it was a sea of sorrow, it was also a sea of unity.
(11/23 19:02:43) Carl Palmner: There was still a great deal of debate.
(11/23 19:02:52) Carl Palmner: The question on most people's minds was: had the Bahro killed Wheely?
(11/23 19:03:05) Carl Palmner: And the second was: if so, then what?
(11/23 19:03:12) Carl Palmner: We got our answer when Sharper returned.
(11/23 19:03:40) Carl Palmner: Our sorrow for Wheely had mostly driven our concern for Sharper from our minds, but we were relieved to see him home safe and sound.
(11/23 19:03:47) Carl Palmner: He brought ill tidings, however.
(11/23 19:04:00) Carl Palmner: Sharper had followed the Negilahn predator, only to discover that IT was laying a trap for HIM.
(11/23 19:04:22) Carl Palmner: That predator, he told us--that brutal, violent, evil ccreature--was a Bahro.
(11/23 19:04:2Cool Carl Palmner: And not just one Bahro, but many.
(11/23 19:04:42) Carl Palmner: Sharper spoke of a legion of the creatures, gazing at him evilly and preparing to destroy him.
(11/23 19:04:50) Carl Palmner: But before they could, he was rescued--by another Bahro.
(11/23 19:05:05) Carl Palmner: And then he learned what very few of us had suspected--the Bahro were at war.
(11/23 19:05:11) Cal: civil war.
(11/23 19:05:3Cool Leighana mutters "as if war could be civil"
(11/23 19:05:42) Carl Palmner: It seemed that after their freedom from enslavement, they had divided into at least two factions, and one of these was malevolent.
(11/23 19:06:03) Carl Palmner: Undoubtedly the Bahro that slew Wheely was one of these.
(11/23 19:06:14) Carl Palmner: Was it the same Bahro that had quenched her thirst and helped her?
(11/23 19:06:15) Carl Palmner shrugs
(11/23 19:06:36) Carl Palmner: Most people think that the Bahro was toying with Wheely, keeping her alive to observe her, as Esher did with the Bahro on Noloben.
(11/23 19:07:00) Carl Palmner: But I myself hold to the belief that there were TWO Bahro in that chamber--the one that helped her, and the one that came later, and killed her.
(11/23 19:07:11) Carl Palmner: I suppose it's all academic now.
(11/23 19:07:11) Cal also believes that
(11/23 19:07:32) Carl Palmner: Michael Engberg sat in the Kahlo Pub for most of that day.
(11/23 19:07:49) Szark: or it was a reaction to Sharper's efforts in stalking the Bahro???
(11/23 19:08:04) Cal shakes his head
(11/23 19:08:14) Carl Palmner: The DRC reopened it and asked that they respect his grieving process, which as it turned out, involved sitting and staring, stone-faced, at the place where Wheely was buried.
(11/23 19:08:25) Carl Palmner: But later that evening, he finally moved.
(11/23 19:08:41) Carl Palmner: He began wandering from Bevin to Bevin, muttering to himself and ignoring explorers.
(11/23 19:08:56) Carl Palmner: Then, he suddenly cried out, "Dr. Watson!"
(11/23 19:09:04) Carl Palmner: And immediately Linked to the Nexus.
(11/23 19:09:25) Carl Palmner: Shortly thereafter, his KI was noted in the Descent--the last known location of the missing Watson. Then it went dark.
(11/23 19:09:49) Carl Palmner: Sutherland and Kodama, both DRC, came looking for him later, and we soon learned that he had vanished, perhaps for good.
(11/23 19:09:55) Carl Palmner: And we couldn't really blame him.
(11/23 19:10:13) Carl Palmner: Not knowing what else to do, the DRC went ahead with the scheduled release of their next Age, Minkata.
(11/23 19:10:23) Cal: meaning "Heavily Scared"
(11/23 19:10:47) Carl Palmner: And this was the fourth scar, the physical pockmarks of an Age whose named means "Scarred" in D'ni.
(11/23 19:11:10) Carl Palmner: We Linked to Minkata with heavy hearts, and discovered something that roused our curiosity.
(11/23 19:11:29) Carl Palmner: Upon the stone in the center of the Minkata desert is a symbol--a symbol we'd heard about, but never seen.
(11/23 19:11:55) Carl Palmner: The symbol from near Negilahn, from Wheely's death chamber--the symbol of a crooked line, with circles at either side.
(11/23 19:12:02) Carl Palmner bows
(11/23 19:12:12) Carl Palmner: And that was Scars Week.

Thank you, Carl, this was another excellent evening.

There's a story that, if I recall correctly, Elie Wiesel tells somewhere. Whenever the Jews were threatened with disaster, the Baal Shem Tov would go to a certain place in the forest, light a fire, and say a special prayer. Always a miracle would occur, and the disaster would be averted. In later times when disaster threatened, the Maggid of Mezritch, his disciple, would go to the same place in the forest and say, “Master of the Universe, I do not know how to light the fire, but I can say the prayer.” And again the disaster would be averted. Still later, his disciple, Moshe Leib of Sasov, would go to the same place in the forest and say, “Lord of the World, I do not know how to light the fire or say the prayer, but I know the place and that must suffice.” And it always did. When in the fourth generation Israel of Rizhyn needed intervention from heaven, he would say to G-d, “I no longer know the place, nor how to light the fire, nor to say the prayer, but I can tell the story and that must suffice.” . . . And it did.

Those of you who have returned from exile to a city now waiting for the chance to grow again have to keep telling the story, keep reminding us all of where we’ve come from and who we are. All strength to you.

Thanks for hosting a great event! I really enjoyed it. Hurrah for IC group experiences! And thanks for posting the chat log - I see when I had to leave you were practically finished after all. I just finished reading the chat log for the first heritage night as well. Now that I know these meetings are not about the First Restoration, I'm a little less confused. Smile I have been directed to some (incomplete) documentary footage about the First Restoration (http://marten.treeweasel.com/GT/) that I am finding helpful also. I'm about four or five episodes in.

I probably won't be able to attend either of the next two Tuesday nights in person, because of work on the surface, so please continue to post chat logs!

Shorah,
Daeris
