Post Posted: Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:47 am — Post subject: A Puzzling Announcement

Shorah,

As I alluded to in the November 2010 Monthly Calendar Release topic (http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22488) I have been working on something that certainly falls within the creativity category. This is something I hope and feel you will all enjoy.

In the spirit of the MYST/URU tradition and in anticipation of this "event," I present an individual part of a puzzle.

I will check this post daily at 6:30 PM MST to see if the solution to the released portion has been posted by one of you. If it has I will promptly post another part of the puzzle. You may work independently or as a group on this.

The announcement of this "Mystery Project" will be made by one of you when you have solved the puzzle in its totality. I would encourage whomever figures it out to post the solution in this thread and explain how you arrived at it.

May I say in advance I have no doubt in your abilities to do this. Without further ado, I present the following piece:

II. In a word, what are you in? ______________

5 to the 7th power - (8497*2) =

(5*5) + (46/2)2 =

(-4774+70) =
56

Naythan,

I see where you are coming from and you are on the right path. The answer needs more specificity!

Ae'gura - near the Kings Lookout.

And this is part 2 of the puzzle, apparently.

Ae'gura - Yes, but not the Kings Lookout. And a very astute observation about this being part 2 of the puzzle.

I'm hesitant to post this; it seems too easy.

MYST

21 letter Caesar shift cipher, mapping 8, 20, 14, 15 to ciphertext h, t, n, o.

MYST is absolutely correct! I'm hoping tomorrow's puzzle will give you a bit more of a challenge.

I used the Caesar cipher as you stated. It was a shift of....5! The number that held a bit if significance for the D'ni.

Well done nonlinear.

Regards,

Thanks to all who participated. Nonlinear and Mara, great job on the full resolution of the puzzle there at the end. I hope you all had fun with it.

www.MYSTgallery.com is something I'm working on and it is targeted to go live at the end of this year. I have a number of ideas of what to include on the site but it will start out small and then progressively grow. Speculate away if you will Smile. I hope you'll all enjoy the finished product.

As always, my best to each of you.

Regards,
