I have been playing it on Second gen itouch 32 gig - it should work on your device, but you will need to have at least 2 gigs free to install it.

Will it work on generation 2 ipods? (8 gig)

Good to hear! Timing will be good, since I'll be clearing out all of my non-Christmas music soon :p

It is very very close!

We have a GoldMaster build that the testers are testing as I type. If there are no show stoppers, we should be able to make the submittal to Apple on Friday! (and then it is about 10 days after that before it reaches the AppStore).

w00t!

(BTW the beta testers, who are your fellow forum mates, did a really great job!)

Thanks,

Can you say when the german version will be released? Will it be free for Riven (english) purchaser this time?

Any way you can tell us if it's Retina enhanced? Or how long after the Riven HD version will be released? And if Riven HD will be a separate app or a Universal app? Sorry for all the questions.

In this version of the Riven app, there is nothing specific done for the retina display. However, the images are in the original 608 by 392 size that is re-fitted by the iOS to 480 by 320. So, on retina displays it does look slightly better because the iOS does take advantage of that.
Riven HD: We haven't start looking at that yet, so I don't know yet.
Riven Universal App: To have both sets of assets would make the app too large but we haven't started looking at that yet, so the real answer is: I don't know yet.

Hmmm, yet another question I can't answer yet. I don't know if we have access (originals and legally) to the localized assets.

As far as you second question: The AppStore does not have a way to tie the purchase of one app to another. And as a developer we never see who has specifically bought our app so there is nothing we can do there. The only other option would be to have all languages in one app but that would for sure blow the top off the 2 Gig limit on app size. So, it would have to be like Myst and be separate apps.

I'm sooo excited and can't wait for it to be released.

Any chance of any photos of it running on an iphone to keep us going?

Also, is there an inbuilt notepad where we can write down any notes of things we need as we go along? Or if not, is it multi task and fast app switch enabled so we can switch out to another note taking app?

Thanks

Riven is multi-task aware and you can very quickly switch between Riven and Notes and back to Riven and then quickly switch to Photos where you can have screen shots saved (using the iOS method while playing Riven of holding the Home button down while clicking the sleep button on the top). So, there is no need to have an internal journal - the iOS provides all that!

Here is a familiar Riven shot taken on an iPod Touch 2nd generation:

And with Shake-A-Hint:

The hints will come on if you shake the device or if you set 'Hints on Idle' to be something other than 'never'. After the hints are displayed they will slowly fade to barely visible.

Hmm... so, according to that shot, shake-a-hint highlights the hot spots? Is this true across the board or just on that card?

all the cards have the hint option, it will automatically come up after a few seconds idle (there is a slider control for how long) . . or if you don't want the hints to come up, you can set it to never and then it will only come up if you shake your device

It is throughout the game. We removed navigational hot spots from the hint system like turn right, left, go forward, etc. so that the screen doesn't get cluttered. So it will mostly circle things that you can manipulate. It shows you what you can do but not what you should do.

And where it is really useful is... ... when you are trying to find those stinkin' lights in the Moiety tunnel.

Ah, the festival of lights and firemarbles... I drew a menorah that held firemarbles and had kerath's arch as the base! Unfortunately M. engberg seemed to be the one lighting the tokotah menorah.

This must be the most natural game design response I've ever seen for frustrated puzzle-solvers stomping on, kicking, thrashing and and throwing their devices across the room. This takes a licking and keeps on hinting. Laughing
