I didn't expect that every frame had been rendered at a high resolution originally (back then, they were probably were high-res Laughing), but it's a shame that re-rendering isn't possible any more. Sad Although this knowledge probably kills a dream of many, at least this ends the speculation.

Well, it surely kills a dream of a truly HD Riven, but maybe not a Riven Masterpiece Edition, with the original renders with less compression, modern codecs on the videos, and lossless codecs used for the audio. That would great. And maybe releasing it through Chrome's new store would be possible?

As far as re-rendering all the Riven assets to a higher resolution, that is not possible as the machines and the software that created the Riven images and movies are long gone.

Ah that breaks my heart, I've always dreamt of Cyan re-rendering Riven. Is the software to render riven really gone? How many Riven & Myst apps must we purchase to make it re-appear and get ported to modern hardware? Wink

It could be that even the 3d models are lost... And if that's the case, Cyan would have to rebuild Riven completely to re-render it. That's completely out of the question of course, because it would require years of development and in the end it would never be completely the same.

Yes and it looks ten times better than realMyst so far. I hope when it's complete they can sell it to Cyan and if so I'd totally pay fifty bucks for it with or without more puzzles.
