Post Posted: Thu Oct 26, 2006 11:36 am — Post subject: Be careful how you treat other gamers

Since I have joined in, I have noticed that some people are pretty rude at times.

1- I would suggest that if you are not a moderator, do not try doing their job.

2- Always remember that if you want to play Uru Live, you will need all the people to stick around and it is not a good idea to scared them away.

3- I am well aware that some of you have been waiting a long time and we thank you for having such patience. Try to show a similar patience with new comers, for a little bit longer. You, almost, have reached your goal so keep up the real nice spirit behind all that hard work.

4- Like when playing a hard game and/or puzzles, it would be a good idea to take a small break away from the forums if you beleive your patience is near "exploding".

The Myst forums are actually some of the best forums I've ever been on. The cases of rudeness that I've seen are few and far between, especially compared with some of the other communities. We have, overall, a mature group of people.

And I echo the sentiments as far as needing and wanting everyone who is interested in this unique gaming experience. Can't wait to see you all in the cavern in December.

Well Dan'nee has it right this is one of the tamest forums that is on the net as far as gaming communities go. There are one or two threads right now that I would term "Heated" as far as disscussion go, but there are several hundred others that are friendly inviting and sometimes down right funny.

And if you want to take this as the gold standard before Cyan started kicking into high gear to produce live this forum had one single fulltime cyan moderator covering the several thousand of us. Cyan only just recently added several moderators from the comunity since live is so close now.

Hope to see you in the cavern, but if not the forums part of URU to. Very Happy

That includes you Artic Wagon Razz

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Never hurts to remind people to be nice to each other. Unless you're reminding them at a really high volume with your mouth a centimeter away from their ear. Then it can hurt.

Yeah compaired to the WoW forums I've been to and what I've heard from the Atitd community this community is pretty tame. Theres always going to be issues as not everyone will get one with everyone else, that and some people like myself are just naturally grumpy so rub people the wrong way.

Hmm... Is this special topic for being rude to each other? Everybody have read? Can we close the discussion?
D'ni calls all of us with gentle voice. I really love our community - it's most intelligent and friendly of all communities I know.
By the way, DRC will banish from cavern every person that will be hurting others. So there will be really refined community.

Since when do the DRC have any authority?

@ chucker

Please chucker do not fall into their trap. I might just be the only one who they are after. Save your "skin first" and try to enjoy yourself.

Thank you.

Don't accept it so seriously.
But in every joke...
You can read this http://www.urulive.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=839
And Code of Conduct from UU.
So game is going to be moderated. And it's not bad.

Yeah these forums are pretty sanitised compared to much of the web forums. Artistic based one (like 3d modeling, 2d painting) tend to be pretty good. The worst forum I've come accross so far are the creative labs forums.

http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board?board.id=Vista

Since I bought my first sound card in six years I had a pop on and was astounded by the abusive postings, the fact the moderators were still able to kindly PM me with the necessary information impressed me a whole lot.
To be honest most forums I've come accross just tend to have a lot of swearing and flaming towards other members. You kind of get used to the tranquil nature here. I mean the biggest problems we have is cannon, non-cannon debates, people asking the same question because they can't be bothered to read the "New People Read this" thread (that really gets on my nerves) and things like the DRCL elections and thats because people care and want things done properly.

Oh and people modding boards who shouldn't be, but that tends to be on the Cyan boards.

I just wanted to say that Arctic_Wagon's statement at the start of this discussion contains good words to think about.

I'm not always the most polite person myself. It is good to stop and think, "By opening my mouth (or by setting my fingers down on my keyboard), am I helping or hurting the cause of Uru Live?"

Malia over at UruObsession has a nice quote in her signature.

Quote:

Before you speak, ask yourself, is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve on the silence? -Sai Baba

Words of wisdom, in my opinion.

It's nice that the Uru Live forums are better than many other forums on the internet... but let's not become too proud and lazy about it. I am glad to see someone say, "Hey, don't forget, let's make sure this place stays nice."

@ Marten.

Many thank you for your soul healing kind words. You are a gret wizard from my point of view.

I have no choice but to promote you to become a "Friend of the Dragons"

And your new tiltle in my soul is "King Arthur of the Uru Live Forums"

Three times... "Long live King Arthur"

For the most part, posts that I've seen as rude at first, usually aren't meant to be. Some users just have an acerbic way of saying things.
