Post Posted: Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:16 am — Post subject: A Beginner's Exploration: Er'cana

The New Players' Hood will be sponsoring a beginner's exploration of Er'cana this weekend at the following times:

Saturday, Feb. 12 at 13:00 KI Time
Localized:
Sat., Feb. 12 at 3:00 PM EST
Sat., Feb 12 at 9:00 PM CET
Sun., Feb 13 at 9:00 AM AEDT
Sun., Feb 13 at 11:00 AM NZDT

Yes, the times are a little odd, but I feel that this is the ideal slot to get everybody in at a convenient time (unless you live in an unfortunate location between GMT and Australia. Not much we can do about that...).

So the day will go as follows:
- We will meet at the above times in the New Players' Hood/Bevin
-- In order to get to “The New Players' Hood/Bevin,” you must first obtain your KI from the Gahreesen Age. Then, link to the Nexus through the Nexus linking book found in the Linking Room in your neighborhood or the book next to the KI dispenser. Once you are in the Nexus, the link to The New Players' Hood/Bevin will be found listed in the Public Links section of the Nexus Register. Just link through the book that appears after you select the link and activate the book dispenser.
--- KIs can be obtained either through playing the age Gahreesen (you will encounter the dispenser fairly early) or by following the signs and instructions located in Bevin (accessible through the blue book on the upper left of your shelf).
- Once we are all gathered we will choose a person's Er'cana to use
-- At this point we will go over how to share books. At some point in the event we will likely go over age invites, however this will not happen in the Hood at that time.
- We'll explore!

Seasoned explorers are welcome to join us, however if you have completed Er'cana we ask that you keep to the rear of the group and not give away solutions. The goal of this event is to allow new explorers a chance to gather and solve puzzles together, not so explorers can come and spoil it for them. Should a question be asked, somebody may answer however their answer should not be overly spoilery (eg not something like "Turn that knob 45 degrees clockwise and move the slider then the door will open" and more like "Have you tried that knob over there?")

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here and we will try to answer them.

Spread the word to those new explorers and I hope to see you all there!

one thing to make note of when doing an age with others in someone else's personal age: you will still have to complete YOUR OWN personal age - even if, as you are going through it, you are taking care of everything during the group adventure/exploration.

in other words, some things 'count' when you are in someone elses age and some things don't. so, in view of that, i suggest that everyone do the basic of going to their own ercana age before the group adventure - just go there and link out so you have the book on your shelf in your relto before starting the group tour. if you don't already have the book on your shelf, the things that do count when done in someone else's age won't stick. there are also some things that don't make sense to do during a group exploration. after the group exploration you can go back to relto and link to your personal age to take care of the things that need to be done from within your own age and/or are awkward to do during a group exploration.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of whether to use the GMT times or to use 24 hour times and what not. But I saw that CET (Central European Time) was used in your town.

So, a few things to condense:

1. If you don't yet have the Er'cana book on your shelf, it's best to have it there already. Sometimes if you don't have it already certain actions we do together won't apply to your own instance. You will still have to solve your own puzzles to get to one of the age's rewards, however if you have your own instance there's another reward you might be able to get sooner.
-- Er'cana can be obtained by going to the Watcher's Sanctuary in the Nexus

2. Try not to use any Bahro Stones. Even if they've been shared they will sometimes go to a dead end and make it rather tedious to return to where we were.

Obviously, for some people, none of this will matter because it's all part of the experience or you may still want to do the age by yourself and see what you remember from our exploration. Either way you will still be able to go back and do most if not all of the age yourself. If you would like some individual help after the group exploration, I'm sure people will be available to help you.

I am very excited for this. Being a veteran of the ages myself makes me want to do certain events similar to this, so this could be a great learning tool on how to organize guides like this myself. Consider me there!

After the event a survey will open up here: http://tinyurl.com/ercanasurvey

I encourage everybody to take it (even if you were not at the exploration) as it gives you an opportunity to put in some feedback about the program in general and where you would like to see it go.

The questions in the survey are customized to whether you are a new explorer or one of our veterans, and the survey will also change based on whether you were present or not.

So please... take it. You cannot take it until Saturday though.

Argh, that's frustrating! Well be sure to take that survey anyways because I'd love to get ideas for the future.

I'm sure we'll have pictures.

Shoot! I'm sorry. I had something come up at the last minute and unfortunately, I won't be able to make it either. I was so excited too. Hopefully next time.

Sad

That's alright I guess. Hopefully by the end of the exploration our fellow new explorers will know what they have to do to and they can help you out Smile

So I just realized that this time isn't overly convenient for people who are west of AEST, but at this point I'm not going to change the times. For people around there, definitely take the survey so I can get a better time for you guys.

KI Time is the same as mountain time, right? If it is, than I'd be glad to come. I promise not to spoil anything though! Smile

I actually found someone online tonight who was lamenting the fact that she can't go on the run tomorrow either, so we went together. It. Was. AWESOME!

All times are GMT
