Post Posted: Sat Mar 05, 2011 4:18 pm — Post subject: Similarities Between Ages

Having just played Myst III again, I noticed a striking similarty between Voltaic (from Myst III) and Er'cana (from Path Of The Shell).

Both need power switching on
Both have a control display panel
Both have a vehicle you can ride in that runs on tracks
Both have warm climates where the sun always shines

So I wondered if anyone else noticed this between Voltaic and Er'cana,
if anyone noticed any other similarities between these two ages
and if anyone noticed similarities between other ages across the different Myst games ?

You missed one really huge similarity there:
- They're both a form of canyon

I suppose you could say that Kadish Tolesa and Amateria are similar.

I seem to recall many similarities between Myst V: End of Ages and content that was released during MOUL (things that were probably in the pipeline for Uru, but used for EoA when Uru was on hold). Todelmer has a pod in it; Tahgira is an iceland like Dereno; etc.

Yes Todelmer does have a pod in it, but, I don't think it's one of the group of pods on the same planet as Negilahn and Tetsonot etc. It's not possible to see if the Toldemer pod has a number on the floor as the Keep is sitting there and the roof is a skylight.

I would not have said Kadish Tolesa and Amateria are similar, other than the hexagonal columns in Kadish Tolesa being similar to the hexagonal rocks in Amateria, but that's only because they're both hexagonal. You don't ride around the whole Kadish Tolesa level in a giant crystal ball, for example.

And Taghira and Dereno ... I'm going to look at both of those again, I'm wondering if they could be in the same age (but different areas).

I'd spoiler some of your stuff you said Alien.
Yeesha wrote Relto to resemble Myst (and Atrus wrote another to resemble it that is seen only in the novels) which is odd since she couldn't bear to see Myst Island (thus the sealed door).

Gahreesen = Mechanical Age

and by Alien's list of similaraties, Selenetic fits the bill by comparison as well (perhaps the power observation is suspect)

in fact, an overwhelming majority of d'ni ages require that power be restored and esp contain some manner of control pannel

purely natural ages however can be excluded from that last observation i.e.: eder ages and that forest age from exile

Speaking of Exile...I'm sure this is not the place to post it, but...it seemed convenient for me

My DVD player on my computer did a nose dive this last weekend...My copy of 10th anniversary will not start...
I have the CD version installed now but I don't want to use it unless I can find a No-CD patch...

Any help here?

as convienent as it may be, this is prob far too off topic for this thread. perhaps posting another thread elsewhere with this inquiry.

Tahgira is actually most likely based on the area listed on the DRC projects page as "Eder Gira II" Lots of old concept art for the rest of Gira show creatures and plants merged in a symbiosis which resembles the trees in Tahgira. Also one of those concepts is a painting by Stephen Martiniere titled "Tahgira" which is used as the background texture in Eder Gira. Theres also a track on the Complete Chronicles soundtrack used nowhere in Uru called "Beyond Gira."

A few other tracks from that same soundtrack were originally intended for Kahlo, which would have been an Age set on a barren meteor ravaged world with large bone structures where you would have been able to ride creatures in a competition that in theory would have been broadcast to the Kahlo pub (currently in ruins). Two of those tracks "Out of The Hive" and "Badlands" were repurposed for Minkata

And that's why it's in a spoiler tag in the Spoilers, Hints and Tips board?

Strictly speaking, unless the No-CD patch were officially issued by Presto/Mattel/Ubisoft (and I'm not aware of one) then it'd be classed as "crack" under the forum rules and not something that can be discussed here.

On the use of spoiler tags, there has a been a sticky post on their use in the Information & Resource Center forum for some time: http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=286871#286871 Wink . Basically, if you're reading a spoiler forum, then you can expect to be spoiled, so the use of spoiler tags is considered unnecessary.

We really need sarcasm tags.

The background in Eder Gira (URU:CC/MOUL) reminds me of the background in Serenia (Myst 4: Revelation).

Kadish Tolesa (URU:CC/MOUL) and Channelwood (Myst) both have forests, but I suppose the similarity ends there.
