No, I didn't see any warning. I'm curious now as to why logins are restricted
(it's the "until further notice" bit I'm curious about)

I think (and this is pure speculation ... I don't actually know) it may have something to do with neighborhoods being created with swear words in the name.

Little things I've heard imply a few people aren't playing by the rules.. like tales of someone in the city teleporting people about. Never experienced myself. The big problem though (and I suspect related to the current server outage) is there's no one about to police this stuff. Just today, in fact not even 15 minutes ago, someone was creating avatars and hoods using swear words, and the nexus doesn't apparently profanity filter those (oddly though the "recent visitors" board DOES, so you see "From: ****" ***** (timestamp)"

I can verify three of them created, one with a swear and two with racial slurs (all three flagged by profanity filter as it were). I dunno if it was the same person, I'd assume so. No idea how long the first two were up for, I never managed to verify (Ehren caught it for us) but I saw the gap between third not existing and existing. It was maybe a full minute, two tops between the third hood suddenly existing, and me getting net6d as they pulled down the servers.

I thought it was someone finding a fault in the avatar creation and playing, but considering the server went down suddenly after as Cyan yanked it AND did a "until further notice" I'm suspecting it is more of someone playing in the vault.

Well, nothing to do but wait until they say..

There were not that many in (as far as I know)
I did see one neighbourhood (don't ask me to tell you, I will not repeat it) and noticed that there were not many in the public 'hoods and not many in the city.

I hope that helps Cyan track down which account is responsible.

Oh this is bad.

I only hope that the events are unrelated because if they are related then... we've got somebody with a serious disregard for others or a serious grudge against Cyan on our hands.

And maybe we can all hope that some server issue popped up!

Either way I'm thinking it'll be a while before things are back up again.

I thinking they’re having a discussion on what to do about the security issue which is why we haven’t heard anything yet, I’m guessing they won’t give us any info on what happened until they’ve got a plan in place to get things back up & running. But that’s all just speculation.

There is currently a problem on the servers that Cyan are investigating - There is, unfortunately, no estimate of when this might be resolved, so just be patient for now.

Well that's certainly good to hear!

But on second thought... that problem could be a security hole that they want to patch Wink
