Has anybody succesfully managed to Myst Online: Uru Live fully working on their Linux machine ? I am using Ubuntu 10.10, and everything works fine except the cursor, which is just a horrible white square.

I think that was what happened to me when I tried it as well a while back. But that's really all I can say.

The cursor works correctly on CrossOver Games on Mac OS, I assume it will be the same on Linux. You may also be able to get it to work with Wine. Have you read the previous thread on the subject on this forum: MOUL Again and Linux/Wine?

Okay, I'll try making it work under CrossOver.
Does the cursor issue remain in CrossOver ?

Thanks, tried it right now, seems to work, except that there's no sound. Sad

I seem to remember a problem where decompressing sounds into the streamingCache folder wouldn’t work properly on Wine or CrossOver. Deleting that folder and then visiting the relevant ages on Windows once should fix that, the sounds play properly in Wine/CrossOver after that. (That obviously requires you to have Windows and have the Uru installation in a place that can be shared between Linux/Mac OS and Windows.)

I have just tried to get MOULa running on Ubuntu 10.04 (but kept updated). I installed the latest version of WINE (1.3.17 afaik) and as my MOULa folder is on a separate partition, all I needed to do was right-click on the UruExplorer.exe file and select run under Wine from the right-click menu.

MOULa ran with no problems, I had to ok re-installing PhysX,
but that went OK too. MOULa logged in fine, everything went as it should until I started playing ...

I have no sound !!! I know others in Uru are playing via Linux, so I will ask them when they are online how they did it, and I'll post here if I have a solution to the no sound problem. I'm sure it's a problem that has an easy solution and has been fixed long ago, it's just not been answered here.

I have experienced 4 problems so far ... 2 big problems, 2 minor niggles.
* When the server is busy (this was at 1am for me 18:00 KI) Ubuntu would not connect to the server .... BIG PROBLEM
* I have yet to get the sound working ... BIG(ish) PROBLEM
* I had a cursor problem after trying to share a Bharo stone, the cursor would not change back from a book ... minor problem, I just quit to desktop and rebooted
* Trying to turn using my mouse was troublesome ... minor problem, I just used the keyboard to move about instead.

Please bear in mind that I am directly comparing Ubuntu & Windows XP ... both use the same client folder and Uruexplorer.exe file. Both use the same email account to log in. Both have no in game changes to each other. Both are on exactly the same PC.
THE ONLY difference is one is Windows XP and one is Ubuntu 10.04 (updated).

If anyone can help to find solutions to these problems ... we may have a better method of playing MOUL as while playing through Ubuntu I NEVER CRASHED.
Has open source prompted someone to develop a Linux client?

Any help please.

Alien.

I used to run it with wine and cedega. Cedega had the cursor fixed with no sound and wine had the cursor problem with sound working. lol Maybe they got the patch installed in the newer versions now... That would be cool...

I have progress !

Ok, I cannot tell if this issue is solved or not, only repeated use will determine this. I did have a slight problem getting the Cyan intro to work, but I found if I go to restart my PC while the Cyan intro is trying to load, then cancel re-starting my PC, the Cyan intro comes on and the rest of the load process continues no problem.

Edit ... I was online for a solid 12 hours without a break, and I didn't crash once. I had some very minor screen jitters and some slightly longer loading screen times, which needed me to do my trick I describe in the above paragraph, and a little bit of lag, but otherwise, I am very impressed with the result.

I HAVE SOUND !!!!
Please don't ask me how, I have no idea what I have done, as far as I can tell, I didn't do anything as I had problems getting it to load, maybe due to the recent server problems, I don't know, but maybe the Open Source update, recent server problems and server restart had an affect on the sound problem. Seems unlikely, but I don't know.

I will have to test this.

I found if I move the mouse VERY SLOWLY, I can turn using the mouse. Will not be any good for turning while running.

Sorry to be a thread necromancer, but I've got some more recent expierience with Uru on loinux, and this is the only thread I coudl find...

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 at the moment, Wine 1.3, and Urur works pretty mcuh perfectly...except for the sound. Unless the 'sound effects' bar is set to 0 in options, it makes this annoying staticy nosie that covers up all other sound.

Anyone have any Ideas on what's causing this and/or how to fix it?
