Post Posted: Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:02 pm — Post subject: Understanding Avatar Deletion

I have some questions about the mechanics of avatar deletion and creation. I ask this because I have an interest in deleting an avatar on one of my accounts to make room for a new one but I'm not sure I want to risk losing the avatar's name.

The progress the avatar has made is beside the point. I haven't made much with him. He was more of a utility avatar I would only use briefly after logging in to bump a Bevin, but that's no longer required. What little progress he has made is the same stuff I've done again and again anyway. so no biggie.

What I am concerned about is losing his name if I should decide to delete him as his name follows well the naming convention I've established for most of my avatars. If I delete this avatar, would it be possible to later generate another one with the same name? What I can safely assume is that if some other user has already taken the name I wouldn't be able to name my avatar the same name again. But I might be safe in that regard. That's assuming that once I delete this existing avatar that name isn't gone for good. I expect to lose progress either way, but again, that's alright. But do I run the risk of losing the avatar's name if I should choose to make another avatar with the same name later? or would the name become available again after deleting this current one?

I have the same question but a different reason for wanting to know. I have an avvie that I don't use, but in my case someone would like to have the name. Will I be able to give it away by deleting the avvie. If not, I guess I'll keep it.

According to AdamJohnso, Rudolfson, the same thing would apply it would seem. unless that name is somehow only registered to the account the original avatar was created on or some other circumstance but i doubt it.

so, this is true? i can delete this avatar and still have his name available to use later should i wish to make an avatar with the same name again?

You may end up getting age's listed as VinceX.X[1] rather than just the name, but you should be able to do it.

I may be wrong about this but, after a certain amount of time the [1] may not appear anymore. I'm probably totally off base though Razz

You're off base Wink The (1) will appear forever, unfortunately.

only until someone else snatches it up...

for example I create 'floyd' with this account.. use 'floyd' for awhile and throw them away...

I come back after a time and 'floyd' is no longer available...

Someone else has decided to gather 'floyd' while I was away..

Did I get that right?

My assumptions as well, Charura. I hope that doesn't happen. I can't see that it would be likely too. if it does, no matter. Might not make me happy but there's plenty more names available. Regardless, question answered. Thanks for the help folks. Smile

@ Main_Avvie

Give you about 24 hours to be able to grab back your name. My main avvie and Skydiver Anna2 are not the original ones Wink , I had to delete them and create them again. I had to wait for the next sunrise to be able to recreate an avvie named Annabelle or Skydiver Anna2.

I hope this will help to go ahead with your choice. And yes those two have every own personal ages with the suffix (1) which is quite annoying but...that is the bad side of deleting an avvie.

thanks Annabelle. that means i've got a little over 12 hrs left to wait... decisions already made but thanks for the advice.

my main avvie has had the (1) for his relto ever since i began using him. honestly, i've never really noticed. people even mentioned it lol (cuz they can see it in chat) i told them i didn't know why but now it's apparent. so i obviously didn't find it disruptive lol. even my bevin has a (2) after it. doesn't bother me. although any higher number and it might lol.

this av however was never really used much anyway and he probably never will be. i just would prefer not to lose his name.

probably won't be long anyway until he's reincarnated.

Cool then. I just have to warn about the suffix.
Thanks

I was able to re-create an avatar with a name I just deleted straight away.

hmmm Confused ok then but like I said I took some time between the deletion and the recreation as there was a message coming from the server telling me "The name is used by another player" or something similar.

Well, anyway, I didn't tell that it is the rule for everyone but it happened to me twice with deletion.

One thing sure, if you have a new avvie with a same name, all ages that were already visited will have a suffix after them.

So if my memory is good enough, some ages of Skydiver Anna2 don't have the suffix (1) since I didn't visit them with the first avvie.

The suffix is also there when you delete an age book and get a new one. And a little tip since I'm thinking of this right now.

Tip: always match up suffix number between Er'cana and Ahnonay Cathedral ages unless you have already visited K'veer (you finished the MOULa's POTS journey). If you don't then you will have 2 bahro caves meaning that you will go to one cave lower area and your buddie will launch the white light pellet from another one cave upper area with the result that you can imagine Laughing Wink .
